Statistics show a shocking increase in traffic deaths since 2020. I see more and more reckless driving. When someone tailgates me I take a deep breath and get out of the way. If I see a moron driving at dusk or twilight with no lights, I either pass them or slow down until they disappear. I was in a horrendous accident last April which I miraculously survived with only a slight bruise and have become an even more cautious driver as a result. My car was totaled and the airbags deployed.

I used to post on the old site frequently and vaguely recall some posters calling out this site for its then (supposedly) conservative posters. What is that site now called? I fondly recall Adam Smith and Suckrates.

I have come to dislike several types of food over the years: orange juice, grapefruit, bananas, peanut butter, pasta, milk and alcohol like beer, bourbon and Scotch. I do like ice cream and chocolate chip cookies, but I atone the next day with a brutal cardio program and fasting. I suppose I’d have made a good Benedictine.

Quite sad, especially with a now fatherless baby. He must have been struggling financially, living in tract housing in Lancaster, CA of all places. With the fentanyl crisis, it seems like we’re in the middle of our own Opium War and no one seems to give a damn. That’s why I wrote about the poly-drug regimen that many young men seem to be on in the Daddy’s Den forum. Drinking the occasional Almaden Chardonnay was my drug of choice in my 20’s.

I’m not sure winning the lottery would change my life THAT much. I’m already comfortable and can get whatever I’d like, within reason. My consumption habits lean conservative. For example, when I travel I usually stay in Airbnbs or small hotels, although I do splurge on business class internationally. I was appalled when US friends convinced me to join them for dinner at Belcanto in Lisbon, a Michelin 2-star, and the bill came to €440 per person with decent wines and mediocre to repulsive small plates. If I won, I’d set up several foundations to fund projects that animate me. As for providers, I’d rent nice apartments in Manhattan, LA and London, successively, and engage the cutest 15 guys in each one. After all, we’re talking close to $800 mm after taxes!

Very true. I spent 5 weeks studying German in Salzburg in the spring of 2018 when Chinese tourism was at its peak and even then 80% of the Chinese were masked, even in the pristine Alpine air.
