I renewed mine in early January. The first step is to fill in and update the online questionnaire and then you’ll need to meet with a CBP officer for a short interview. I got my new card within a week. I had my original 2017 and follow-up interview in Blaine, WA, near the border. Amex Platinum reimburses the fee.

I’ll be watching how the receding omicron wave pans out. At this point, I’m triple-vaxxed and have no immediate plans or desire to get the fourth, even though I’ve had no adverse reactions. I never do with vaccines.

I use the “silence unknown caller” on my iPhone. 90% of voicemail is from car warranty scammers. Immediately deleted. Although the vast amount of communication is by SMS or WhatsApp, I do have real conversations with family and close friends, many of whom are Millennials. With first-time providers, texts followed up by a call, which most appreciate. I don’t leave explicit information in texts.

Verizon is also $10 per day when you use it. Just go online and click the countries you’ll be visiting. As others said, use WhatsApp and your hotel or Airbnb’s Wi-Fi as much as possible. Other apps like AllTrails are free to use and don’t gobble up data as Google Maps does. Just download the areas you’ll be visiting in advance. Mexico and Canada are included in my basic plan.
