Although not my state (see earlier post for Nevada), I visited the oldest man-made structure in Hawaii. Built in 1821, Ka Hale Lā‘au was built by the Christian missionaries and is located in downtown Honolulu.

But, likely not associated with a five star general and a two term president Independence Hall comes to mind. Constructed in A.D. 1753, it is where General Washington addressed Congress (before he became a two term President). It's still not the oldest man-made structure in Pennsylvania; but, at least it's older than all of the members of this website 😁

The Eisenhower home in a Gettysburg was constructed in A.D. 1955. I believe there may be a few other man made structures in Pennsylvania that are a few years older. 😊

You bring up a good point. Maybe the increase in social ills across cities and suburbs is due, in part, to decline in church attendance. It might be that church used to provide inspiration and hope that people needed and no longer get, and then end up suffering to addiction to soothe their feelings of despair. Or it might be that churches have fewer resources to provide help to the needy because their membership has shrunk. Either way, it is an astute observation that we oughtn't rely solely on taxes and laws to address the ills of society.

Not charging sounds like an ethical decision and good customer service from the provider, given the situation. Kudos to him. I had a similar situation once with a provider who could not perform. He also offered to not charge me. I gave him some money right then and there for cab fare. While I wouldn't hire that man again for me, I admire his business practice of not charging for a less than stellar experience. A good lesson to learn from this is that with some forms of communication, less is best. Especially don't send text messages when there is any negative or serious issues to discuss, as they can be blown out of proportion. If I had wanted to see him again, I would have waited a day to let the negative feelings from the encounter cool off, and then text him to schedule the next appointment. If I had no intent of scheduling with him again, I would just let it go and stop communication.

It seems like someone has a problem with handouts... Taking from successful areas and giving to less successful areas. It's as if someone acknowledges taking from richer areas and giving funding to poorer areas doesn't lift the poor areas up, it just drags the successful areas down. I wonder if giving free items to those in need in San Francisco (free drug needles, free shelter in the subway stations, etc) is helping to bring the poorest people up or just dragging the entire city down. That's a great example. To get back on the topic of decay in San Francisco, people outside of San Francisco can't believe the San Franciscans don't see the link between soft on theft and drugs has led to so much theft and so much drugs that tourists, businesses, and the tax base is leaving. The people outside of San Francisco don't want to see San Francisco get worse; they want to see the city wake up and reverse their decisions that failed.

Yes, I have. The oldest man made building in Nevada is "The Old Mormon Fort" in Las Vegas constructed in 1855 by Mormon missionaries (Hello.. My name is... 🎶 🎵). It was later used as part of a ranch, and then an Elks Lodge in the 20th century.

I am reluctant to get private dances at Boardwalk because of their new entrance fee per dancer policy. But at Johnson's and LeBoy (when you bought a wrist band that was good for entry with different dancers all night), I found I was more motivated to go back for more private dances to "get my money's worth" from the wrist band purchase. It's silly, I know, to be motivated by saving a few bucks when I'm going to easily spend a few hundred dollars in a night there. But the psychological effect of having paid for all night access does something psychologically to encourage multiple dances. If I was a strip club operator, I would look at supply and demand. If there was a queue for booths for private dances (like there almost always is at Spunk @ Monster in New York City) then I would raise the cover charge for each private dance. If the booths were not at capacity most nights (which has been my experience with Boardwalk and LeBoy) , I would charge only the one fee for an all-night wrist band to encourage patrons to come back for multiple dances the same night.

Could it be that many poor in rural areas are very content with their life and local culture of church, football, and country music; whereas many poor in urban and suburban settings are cut off from their community socially and/or carry a grudge against their better-off neighbors? The American Dream can be fulfilled living in a one room house with family and friends that you love and doing what you love.
