Wow I had exactly the same thing happen to me. I was musing about my first time in a gay bar in another thread and I was gonna say just what you said but I thought it was getting too much into the weeds. Just more evidence that Hollywood and the msm are not on our side no matter how much they claim to be. We are only a thing of amusement to them and those of us who aren’t flamboyant or entertaining in some way are of no use to them. It would be understandable if it were 20 - 30 years ago when, as @Lucky so astutely pointed out, even some of us believed the stereotype. But the problem is they’re still propping up this image. Did any of you watch the coverage of the pride “festivities” on channel 7 last month? I could only watch for about 20 minutes before I wanted to throw up. Nothing but freaks, fems, and drag queens, which is fine if that’s what you are, but it would never have occurred to that smug, smirking reporter to interview anyone remotely normal looking. Disgusting! Anyone remember her name?

Don’t ever use these scam artists. My neighbor used them to clear out her (not even completely furnished) one bedroom apt. She donated most of the larger pieces to the Salvation Army and trashed all the smaller stuff. Anyway they were there less than 2 hours. 1500 bucks it came to! What a racket!

The idea that gays were effeminate caused me great consternation in my youth. I was thinking that I might be gay, but I was in no way effeminate, so how could I be? When I finally went to a gay bar I was flabbergasted at all of the masculine guys. Just stunned. It was a one-way trip from there!

Eye contact is everything! And yet sometimes people with whom you share the most intimate moments seem creeped by it. I've had more than one provider laugh or smile uncomfortably when I make prolonged eye contact or ask 'why are you looking at me?'. And the funny thing is most of these have not been one and done scam artists, but guys I like (and dare I say who like me) and have seen many times. Guys please do not be spooked by eye contact! Consider it a compliment that I want to look at you!
BTW my biggest crush in porn these days is Dustin Cooper. What amazing eyes he has! The last gay bar "the Raven" was bulldozed a couple of years ago.  The owners bought the New Hope Motel across the street.  It's very cool.  They are slowly redoing the rooms.  They have a small bar called "The Cub Room."

Actually, that is one of the survivors. The restaurant and bar are neighborhood hangouts and there are shows a few nights a week. 
Interestingly, Cathedral Station in the South End and "dbar" in Dorchester are restaurant/bars. Maybe that's the path to survival, at least in this area.

I guess that means Club Cafe is gone. The very first gay bar I ever went inside. My bf kept bugging me to go there. I would say - We don't have to go there. We can have fun in your south end!
Anyone been to New Hope, PA lately? I haven't been for over a decade. I would visit regularly in the early/mid 2000's and even back then it was already (at least on weekends) being overrun by mostly straight day trippers from NYC/Philly.
 

Love this. I've been going for pandemic walks with my neighbor since last August and at some point we happened on a local park with a basketball court. When the weather warmed up we started seeing young guys shooting hoops. Around May there was one guy in particular I was drawn to. That day I only saw his arms and the back of his head but I was still smitten. Since then I've seen him there many times (he's really cute) but never shirtless. This past Saturday I went for a bike ride and as I rode through the park I saw him there by himself shooting baskets. It had been a hot day but it was late afternoon and the sky was darkening like it was going to rain so I decided to finish my ride and come back to the park and see if he was still there. About 5 minutes after I left the park it started raining lightly so I turned around and came back. He was still there but everyone else had left so it was just me and him. I felt silly just watching him so I started to bike home. As I did the rain started to lighten up and I thought I must be crazy. This may be the only chance I get to be alone with him so I went back to the park entrance; he was still there. I hung out there for about 5 minutes wondering what, if anything I could do and finally decided to bike the oval around the perimeter of the park. Halfway around I had to decide if I wanted to take the shortcut through the center or continue around. The shortcut goes right to the basketball court so rather than be too obvious I kept going around. By the time I completed the loop and was back at the basketball court he was gone. I stopped and looked around - he was walking down the shortcut that I had declined to take. If I had we would definitely made eye contact. But what made it more excruciating was he had taken his shirt off and draped it around his neck. Is it possible he did this just for me? He must have seen me biking the loop and knew I would be coming around and I had never seen him go shirtless even on much hotter days. I thought momentarily about following him but that would have been uber creepy so I just went home. Not even a minute later it started pouring rain. Apropos. Anyway I'll be going for a bike ride in a little while and I'll probably pass through the park. If anyone has any advice on how to proceed I'd appreciate it. Wow this is a long post I'm sure no one will read it but I just had to tell someone.

I swear living in central NJ is so frickin dull! Every guy at my gym who I have ever seen with his pants off wears boxer briefs (except me, I wear the old style boxers - loose in the leg and crotch). You guys in Manhattan don't know how good you've got it - jocks, thongs, bikinis... commando!

On a related note, here in the tri-state area the CW (channel 11 - WPIX) still shows the Yule Log for most of Xmas morning. I normally get sad during the holidays and feel a bit lonely but for some reason I find having the Yule Log on in the background soothing and comforting.
