  1. I feel your pain. But it is hard to deny that it can be rather effective in sending a message to those governments (think apartheid South Africa with a love for Rugby and Cricket, who were denied access to international events). On the other hand, what is to be done when a player takes a political position (for example, speaks in support of an oppressive government or wears a symbol in support)? It is sadly complicated…
  2. Huh? I don’t follow your logic. Someone who is HIV+ and undetectable can also stop taking their drugs. I don’t see how this is in fact safer than two consenting adults, both HIV negative in a committed relationship. Or how it is safer than an HIV- partner who takes PreP and stays on PreP.
  3. Ah, I see. Yes, by all means, let's perpetuate the stereotype and ramp up the drama to get more attention... 😆
  4. Nice find! I also believe that minimizing fees is super important over the long term…speaking only for myself, I see no reason to allow a bank or asset manager to pick my pocket repeatedly, year after year. 💰
  5. I recognize the pics - has been around for a while. Perhaps discussed under a different name? 🤔
  6. I do enjoy form fitting underwear (on myself and a provider). But honestly, most of what they have on display on Insta doesnt appeal to me…i hesitate to visit the store!! 🤭
  7. I am still trying to figure out why this thread is titled “Urgent”…

He appears to be into “fin-dom” in a big way. It’s not for me but i wish him luck. 💵
  9. I appreciate his position - but there are other benefits beyond taxation to consider. Many of my friends ask for my opinion and I assist them with their investments (it is not my career - i am not an advisor but I do know a bit about it.) They are all in “high risk” careers where bankruptsy can occur (auditor, lawyer or doctor that gets sued for malpractice, business owner that goes bankrupt after a deal goes bad) and I encourage them to stash money in an IRA since the IRA has federal bankruptsy protection up to $1.3mil (when last I checked). 🤓
  10. I thought Federal would take time due to IRS warnings but it turned out fine. My New York State return was efiled in early February (at the same time as Federal). Still waiting on my refund 2 months later… damn revenuers!

  12. I understand why you are thinking about this. There are a lot of moving parts - some you can control (like your retirement date and when to start taking social security) and others you cannot...like the expected inflation and a potential war. Even the affluent appears to be scaling back, if you believe the numbers. I do expect a recession may be coming, but I won't be so bold as to predict when. You may find this article of interest: https://www.forbes.com/sites/robertberger/2020/08/02/the-bucket-strategy-is-broken-heres-a-better-way/?sh=68c0515d1b33 If holding more bonds or even cash makes you feel more comfortable and sleep better - do it. But opt for TIPS instead of vanilla bonds given your target time period and potential need to bridge the gap between retirement and taking social security. There are some really good fiduciary/fee only financial advisors that can help you craft a plan that works for you - personal finance is very personal and finding somebody to help you work through it can be very useful. I am not a registered investment advisor - by my approach has always been to lean quite heavily on stocks; they have a good track record during inflationary times. As long as you are willing to ride out the ups and downs.
  13. My portfolio suffers from a severe case of "the aggressives" too!
  14. Maybe the $400 includes the NDA! Lawyers are expensive!! "- NDA Ready" 😆

  16. I’ve had a few close calls… 😆
  17. I switched to Descovy and no longer have the stomach problems caused by Truvada. If affordability is a concern, check out https://heymistr.com/ They will apply for patient assistance from the manufacturer on your behalf and in almost all cases it helps a great deal with affordability (in most cases free). Doctors consultations and quarterly testing is included and free. That being said - I am not sure that Descovy is approved for non-daily Prep. If you like that approach, you should probably stick with Truvada unless your doctor recommends it.
  18. It is my understanding that most facilities of this nature have a social worker assigned to them. Make him/her your friend and they will be a source of great insight when it comes to gifts. Works for me. 😉
  19. I get what you are saying - you clearly have strong opinions on the matter. The idea of required counseling has a lot of merit. So does the idea that immaturity should be part of the equation. It does seem a bit disingenuous to me, for people who value freedom as much as we do here in the USA, to determine what somebody can or cannot do with their life. Land of the free, home of the brave needs to mean something, and yes, it cuts both ways - freedom in how to live and how to die. Will there be abuse? Surely - freedom for the wolves inevitably means death to the sheep.
  20. I still use my rollerblades often - have enjoyed inline skating for a long time. I suspect that, like rollerblading, it is important to learn how to fall correctly. Debbie Merrill taught me everything I know! And rollerblading pads are specifically designed to cover and protect the areas of the body that is most likely to hit the ground when you fall (knees, elbows, wrists). Helmets are clearly important too - not sure if I would prefer a rollerblading helmet or a biking helmet though...
  21. Is it May already??? 😆

Thanks - I found a few books on Amazon that are pretty recent editions too. Many are self published so I will consider the info with care, but it is a start.

    Metaverse

Trevor Noah had a piece on the metaverse on the Daily Show last night. I keep hearing bits and pieces about it. Do you tech savvy fellas know of any resources (books, youtube channels or podcasts) available to help me learn about it? 🤓
  25. This topic (“tipping”) shows up every few years. It usually ends in back and forth disagreements between members that have strong feelings but generally end up being unhelpful. My takeaway has always been to do what works for you and help you achieve your objectives. I value my regulars - I choose to tip them because they meet or exceed my expectations. You do you. 🤷‍♂️
