A few comments, as someone who has recently travelled to a few cities in Florida (including Fort Lauderdale) and lives in Atlanta.  It is very encouraging to see the bars come back to life.  First, the crowds are back!  I’ve talked to multiple gay bar owners who have said their numbers (crowds and dollars) are higher than pre pandemic levels.  every time I walk by Blake’s and Ten they are packed.  The Hideaway is packed.  The bars in Fort Lauderdale are packed   I think this is happening all across the US as people are ready to mingle!
Second, Memorial Day weekend is usually a quiet one for Atlanta gay bars because most of the party boys go to the festival in Pensacola.... as they did this year.  However, this year it was crazy.  I went to Richards on Frisay and it was packed. I went to BJs on Sunday night.  It was packed!  It really is a stunning turnaround.  
 
But unfortunately, Swinging Richards is a shadow of what it used to be.  a few observations as to why..... BJs actually has more hot guys.   SR had maybe 18 dancers Friday  night.  6 of which stayed in the VIP room all night and refused to go on stage even when they are not doing a VIP room.  As a consequence they have a packed house and one to two dancers on stage for 3 straight songs…. And the quality of guys has definitely dropped. If you are a bar, you should make it easy for your customers to buy a drink.   Management at SR doesn’t grasp this concept.  They only had 3 bartenders to serve drinks.  No waiters and no busboys.  Typically took 20+ minutes to get a drink.  Add to all of that, no new talent.  All of the guys that are there started dancing a minimum of two years ago.  Some have been there for over a decade and the “veterans” have unbelievably bad attitudes.  
 
on thursday night a rich surgeon was visiting from out of town and he took 9 guys into a VIP room for over 4 hours. His total bill was over $20k.  Good for them.  But because they have so few dancers working  were no dancers on stage. Yep, for the 100 or so folks that paid a $20 cover charge... they were able to “look at the stage” and buy overpriced drinks. 
 
it really is a shame.  They had such a good run for such a long time.  They have something you can find in very few places in the US (male  nudity and alcohol).

Johnson's is doing everything right and the crowds show it. Gorgeous men, great bar service, three men dancing on stage at a time. Private dancers are $20 for an all night wrist band to the house, then $20 per song for the dancer. There is a small cover of $10 on Friday and Saturday nights, but the place is so packed they could even raise the cover.
On my two week trip to Ft Lauderdale in January, I went to Boardwalk once, LeBoy twice, and Johnson's on all the other nights.
Local laws about nudity prevent them from being as famous as the clubs in Montreal or Atlanta, but Johnson's has a great atmosphere and a great location. Management is doing right

It’s so hard for me to believe the Gaiety has now been gone for 16 years. How is that possible? So many fun filled memories. Aside from the obvious pleasure of watching the show and meeting the dancers I’m happy to report that Cooper and I bonded and have remained good friends all these years. Except for the pandemic we continued meeting in the city almost every Wednesday to take in a Broadway show, have lunch or dinner and continue on with cocktails. For years that was Splash Bar and when that closed (very sadly) we moved on to other bars. In the last few years that has been Hardware. Even though we haven’t been able to see each other in person this last year we text almost every day. I‘m looking forward to resuming our weekly meetings.
I‘ve been reading some of our old reviews and have to admit they are pretty amusing. It was fun doing them and we got help from other posters like Lucky.
Cooper and I had a standing date to meet and go to the first show on Mondays. After the show we’d head to a local bar or restaurant and compare notes. We actually took notes during the show. We took our job pretty seriously believe it or not. Although sometimes Cooper would see a dancer he liked and take off mid-show. But I would get a report later on so it was fine.
Looking back it’s hard to believe the Gaiety existed. I guess we’ll never see anything like it again.

On March 17, 2005 the last stage show took place at the Gaiety. What a sad night that was. Unfortunately, nothing in NYC ever came close to replacing it.
 
So many happy memories. If you do a search on the Gaiety you’ll find many discussions and reviews. Those dancers became household names.
 
Those were the days... Sure miss it. ?

It would be shame if it shuttered its doors completely if a new owner is not found. There are already many chain restaurants in the Village who will survive no matter what. They’ve had an incredible run since the 1990s and made a lot of money for their owners, who are probably getting to the age when they want to cash out. The pandemic has probably hastened that decision.
 
Over the years, many restaurants like this have closed in the Village. I will mourn it’s disappearance if that is what happens. But I still love Montreal and it’s joive de vivre.

The border between the US and Canada is still closed. So exactly how are dancers from Montreal able to go to Fort Lauderdale to dance at Johnson’s?

It is really a matter of risk tolerance. Given the nature of the event and if there is an expectation for strict and consistent social distancing, then yea, this might not be the thing to go to.

I went to two nude parties and didn’t catch covid either time.

thanks for the kind words. I’m definitely trying to focus on all the good, which far outweighed the bad anyways. I tend to be a glass half full kind of guy so that’s usually the case. I’m more bummed because we had a bucket list trip to Mexico planned for this weekend that I was really looking forward to that got canned. I think once the weekend is behind me I’ll definitely feel better.

I’ve wanted to meet Astro since he did his avn a few months ago but he was reluctant to do a nude party. He agreed to come out for this one from California. I also got JJ to come up from Florida. Both guys showed negative covid tests so I was comfortable. Astro flew in Tuesday. Joey and I picked him up from LaGuardia and headed to our hotel in nyc. The guy that runs the tech for the virtual events and I have become friends. He got us adjoining rooms at a Marriott in midtown very close to the venue. What a night! Here’s a review for those of you that enjoy these things. It feels self indulgent but enough people have expressed an interest in hearing about how things proceed, so here goes.
 
4 of us from the board met for a nice dinner at our hotel restaurant. They were unable to add grilled chicken to a salad. Seemed like a reasonable request but grilled chicken isn’t available here.
 
We got to the nude party between 7:30 and 8. Tim was wearing a Where’s Waldo costume that out of sheer coincidence the bartender was the model for on the package. You can opt to do multiple in a row. There appears to be an unspoken rule that the more songs you chain together, the more you get out of the dance. For example.
 
1 song they grind all over you and you touch their body. 2nd song they’ll take your hand and guide it across their bodies, and onto their ass or hardening dick. 3rd song their mouth will make contact with your neck or ears. 4th song their hands will work very hard to activate the clients dick. 5th song.... well, you get the idea. This wasn’t clear to me until the 3rd time it happened. I appreciate a good process so I was happy to experience it.
 
Two dancers approached me and asked if I wanted to join them for a 3some in the champagne room. It was an easy yes.
 
About 90 minutes later, one of those boys, 2 others dancers, some customers and I were standing in a circle in the main room. He asked if I wanted to see him shoot another load. I said yes, but only if it was in the main room, on this new dancer’s ass, right where we were all standing. Some negotiating ensued, he did a jerk off show in front of the bar onto a beautiful bubble butt. For a darkened room full of grown ups trying to avoid eye contact with each other, EVERYONE noticed what was going on and they seemed to enjoy it.
 
Highlights from the event:
 
@sam.fitzpatrick telling me I’d fit in fine at the Palm Springs event and not to be nervous or self conscious about attending.
 
It was super clean and although the Covid precautions were annoying at first, they’re necessary, it was the right thing to do and I get it.
 
Two dancers tried to give me change after my dances not realizing the extra 20’s were tips. That was charming.
 
Bryce is hysterical. Absolutely hysterical.
 
A dancer that agreed to come back to my hotel asked for my number. As he was typing it in, me over his shoulder checking for accuracy, I was already saved as “guy with lots of cash from Long Island.” I guess in their eyes, that about sums me up lol. I was flattered and grateful it wasn’t a worse combination of adjectives and descriptors.
 
Through out the night, while I was getting dances I’d stuff cash in between the couch cushions. When I was done, I’d go tell other dancers about it. They’d rush off to go look for it no matter what was happening on that couch. Customers thought they were getting a buy one get one free dance. Perceptive dancers had a Halloween Easter egg hunt and made some bonuses.

One dancer started checking Instagram mid way through the first song of our lap dance. It was strangely off putting.
 
A customer walked in on me peeing and wouldn’t leave. I rolled with it but it was unexpected
 
It took cycling through 4 Uber Eats bicycle delivery drivers nearly an hour to find one brave enough to deliver 8 pizzas by bicycle. The pizza arrived mostly intact, and fairly warm.
