For some reason I have been hesitant to comment on this thread and I really don't know why. As is well know around here I taught in in public high school for thirty-six years. Schools love to operate with a multitude of committees. Personally I have always hated working on committees. They spend endless hours discussing and very little time deciding. My staff included gays, lesbians and straights. Most of the people I was forced to work with were pleasant and enjoyable some, however, were absolute assholes. Sexual orientation had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with who were the assholes and who where the pleasant and enjoyable. The fact is my best buddy was an outspoken lesbian science teacher. We used to sit together at the back of room cracking each other up with comments about what was going on. She was the only thing that made the committee meeting bearable for me. Unfortunately she passed away a few years ago -- I miss her dearly. Ultimately there are nice people and not so nice people and sexual orientation has nothing to do with which is which. My suggestion is that you relax, kick back and give the woman a chance.

Merboy the fact is NOTHING stays the same everything evolves. What is interesting about the cities you mentioned Boston, Manhattan, and San Francisco plus many other large cities in that they all have liberal/progressive governments. That isn't a political statement it is simply a statement of fact. Now if you were to ask me what is the significance of that fact I would have to answer that I really don't know and that your guess is as good as mine.

Not Connected at All It is totally of my own doing that I do not feel in the least bit connected to the greater gay alphabet soup community. The major reason I am not connected is simply, due to the fact that, that by nature, I’m not a joiner. I am now and always have been WAY to independent to be an active member of any group. Both Jaker27 and Purplekow made comments that really struck home for me. Jaker27 wrote that “friends and family are my community now”. That statement has been true for me all my life. Furthermore, most of those “friends” are straight. Purplekow’s wonderful comment about being connected for one week in April also resonated strongly with me. The extended Palm Springs Weekend is a highlight of my year. Getting together with old friends and meeting new ones and discussing our rather unusual hobby is great fun. I am 80 years old and love the life I have now spent nearly a lifetime building. I have never been interested in being a part of the great gay community and still am not.

I met a really nice poster at a couple of the Palm Springs Weekends. If I remember correctly he was originally from some place in upstate New York but spent much of his time in Florida. When his health really got bad he was forced to move back to New York to receive family support. I know he died. Unfortunately I can't remember his name. He was a good friend of Tristan Baldwin who we also haven't heard from recently.

You might consider googling Long Beach Gay Men's Organizations and see what you come up with. Long Beach has a sizable gay population so you should be able to finds groups that will help with recommendations.

Depends on how much I want to get together with the guy. The more interested I am the more time I allow. I usually plan get togethers quite far in advance thus I usually allow the guy several days to reply. Since I never do last minute meetings quick replies are not necessary.

Hey Cure69 I've known I was gay since I was a teenager, I'm now 80. For a whole host of reasons I didn't act upon that knowledge until I was 61 1/2. Do I regret that I waited so long -- not really -- life is what it is. As far as I'm concerned regret is a total waste of time - it doesn't change anything so why bother. The review part of this site became worthless, in my opinion, several years ago, thus I stopped submitting reviews.
