The big piece many seem to be missing is that the window for incubation is up to 14 days, and even people not showing symptoms can spread infection, so even though your provider may feel fine, and only had clients who feel fine, even taking temperature checks, etc. you can still unknowingly spread and contract the virus, which is (as a subtle reminder) DEADLY. Is that massage really worth it? Endangering your own life is one thing, becoming a spreader who endangers others is another.

Well stated. For me, I accepted the risk, and while I didn't get sick, I certainly wouldn't take that result as evidence that I would get the same result again.

It is very important to remember that when it comes to a disease as transmissible as COVID-19, the choice you make is not really a "personal" choice. When you decide to take a risk (regardless of your own assessment), you also automatically make a decision for people around you and the public to take that risk with you. The mask on your face protects others from getting in contact with large droplets that come out of your nose and mouth, and does little to protect you from getting infected by others. And although more evidence is needed, it is possible that the disease could also be transmitted vial aerosols. If that was the case, being in a room with an infected person (who could be asymptomatic) for an extended period of time, regardless of the use of masks, would be pretty risky. Even if you wore an N95, most people who have not been trained to use it and fit tested with the right mask would most likely don/doff it incorrectly, which could result in decreased protection and increased likelihood of contaminating themselves while taking off the mask. One should also remember that it is highly unlikely that a provider would be able to "sterilize" or "decontaminate" their facilities unless they operate in an environment similar to an OR or procedure suites in a hospital and have access to medical grade sterilization equipment and antiseptics. It is not advisable to include such claims from a provider in your risk assessment since they most likely will not be able to achieve the level of sanitization needed to mitigate the risk. The bottom line is that according to what we know now about the disease, there is not much you can do in a non-healthcare setting to prevent transmission if you're in a room with an infected person and having close contact with them for an extended period of time. Avoiding such close contact would be the best thing to do at this moment. Personally, I do not wish take a risk and automatically put others around me at risk so despite my need for some TLC I choose not to venture out and get a massage at this time.

Haha!! This is the best thing I've read all day!

In response to the OP... If the masseur is COVID positive, then there's a very strong chance of transmission even with a mask on. The most recent data suggest that COVID is transmitted not just by large respiratory droplets but by very fine particles via aerosol transmission. In other words, sharing "air space" with someone is enough, even if they don't cough or sneeze. And unless the mask is a medical grade N95 mask, it probably won't do much to prevent aerosol transmission. I'm not an expert in infectious disease, but I do work in medicine, and this is the most up-to-date thinking on COVID transmission.

Obviously getting a massage right now is a risk, but like other risks in life the goal is to 1) minimize that risk as much as possible and 2) figure out what level of risk you're comfortable with, then proceed accordingly. While there's no way to know for sure that the masseur is COVID negative, I do think it helps going to someone you've seen before, whom you trust will be honest about any possible exposure and who will cancel if they are feeling even a little ill. Also, some masseurs see 5 guys a day, some only see 5 a week. I think this makes a big difference, too...

I agree with those who say the safest course is don't do it. However, we all get to evaluate and accept risk for ourselves. Two weeks ago, I took the first plunge since COVID arrived with a therapist I've seen in the past. I know him to be a clean, fastidious guy, and he assured me that he was cleaning his place thoroughly between clients, airing out the massage room, etc. He also asked me to shower upon arrival - not sure that makes much of a difference, but I didn't object or mind. I chose to wear a mask during the session; he didn't. He said he would wear one if I'd asked him to, but the massage room is in his home, he's there all day, exhaling droplets etc., so I didn't really feel that it would make that much of a difference for my protection. I understand that the mask is more for the protection of others, but I felt better wearing it, so I did. Honestly, while I would have preferred not to, it was fine, not especially uncomfortable, and not all that annoying. I tend to zone out during a massage session anyway, and the mask didn't prevent that from happening.

Other than asking him to wear a mask (which again, I didn't), I don't know of any other reasonable precautions to recommend. Overall, I was glad I went - I hurt my Achilles tendon trying to start running again, and I just needed a little attention anyway (unlike some folk, I don't have a husband to bang me or make me breakfast ). But, on the other hand, I'm also glad that 14 days passed yesterday without me getting sick, and while I would love to go and perhaps check out some of the other providers recommended on this forum, I am going to keep my pants on and wait awhile again, particularly given the spike in case numbers here in the LA area. As they say, YMMV.

I'd avoid traveling masseurs, especially those coming from 'hot spots'. Just stick to the local ones. Ask them if they have traveled or been in a large crowd gathering recently.
The predominant way of transmitting the virus is still through aerosols exhaled through the nose and mouth. Putting on a mask for both parties is a pre-requisite in reducing the majority of the risks if you really have to see a masseur now.

OP, you will need the following to stay "safe" from COVID-19 during a massage:

A large enough home where you could self isolate with a masseur
Money to hire a masseur to live with you full time
Both of you to NEVER leave the home
Money for people to deliver and sanitize food, water and supplies delivered to your home
Access to doctors that can safely administer the COVID tests to you and your masseur safely at home 24/7 so you always have accurate results
Screening of everyone coming in and out of your home

That should provide you with a "safe" way to get a massage! Every other method comes with risks and you need to figure out how much risk you're willing to handle based on your personal circumstances and the level of infections in your area.

Took the plunge and subscribed. The videos of sessions with others are pretty hot IMO but there aren't that many. He has a nice body but the "self care" videos which are the majority, don't do it for me. Don't regret but don't need another months subscription.

It went really, really well. Easily one of the best experiences I have had. I would definitely encourage booking with him. He is a solid, genuine, honest guy - warm and quite forthcoming for a 22-year-old. I will definitely repeat when he is back in the area. For sure!

+ db66 got a reaction from Otto in Any current rec in LA area for a masseur taking meaningful COVID precautions?
Hi all - I wondered if anyone can suggest a provider in the LA area (LA, OC, Long Beach) who you know - preferably firsthand - is using some reasonable steps to prevent COVID transmission? Both parties wearing masks and taking showers beforehand is probably not enough for me to risk it. I'm not sure exactly what my standards are, but I would feel comfortable with someone doing things like: (i) sanitizing the room and table, (ii) not taking back-to-back appointments, (iii) using a HEPA-filter air purifier, things like that. I know that none of these are a panacea for COVID and the best defense would be to just stay home, but I think I would be willing to take the plunge if I felt the masseur was taking some appropriate additional precautions. Trying to do my risk/reward assessment. Thanks for any recommendations.

I had my first m4m massage from him, probably around 1997 or 1998. I don't remember much about the experience. I wish I could say it pulled me straight out of the closet, but it didn't (not his fault, of course). But it was a start.....

Am I really the first one (in two weeks!) to comment on the FIRST Charles Atlas? When some of us of a certain age were quite young, the comic books we read always had ads for building your body so that no one would dare to kick sand in your face at the beach. The ads featured a big hunky guy (in those days, he was a hunk), standing proudly in his bathing trunks, promising that if you mailed in the coupon and the required price, you could soon look like him. (75 days, was it?)

My reaction to this guy's photos? "I knew Charles Atlas, and sir, you are no Charles Atlas!!!"

I legit registered specifically because of this thread.

the worst one was a guy named Jay. Younger guy. And while his pics were technically accurate they were a bit deceptive. First, when I showed up and he answered the door I noticed his teeth were jagged and misaligned. This may not bother some but it’s a turn off for me. But, what the heck, I was there anyway.

so his body was tight for sure, but that’s where the compliments end. I wanted an erotic massage and he said he could do that. Instead I got a rubdown like the ones my nana would give me when I was a kid.

he talked the whole time about his personal life. He confessed he used to have a bad drug habit, was bipolar and was dishonorably discharged because of a rape accusation. This was so uncomfortable. He’s telling me all this while I’m nude on the bed with his body right on top of mine. I said to myself “alright don’t get this guy mad. Just get off and go.”

at the end he got undressed and I played w his cock, which looked big in the pics. And yes the length was good but it was very thin. Almost comically so.

anyway, I get off, and politely leave while assuring him I’d be in touch.

    never again.
