  3. Kansas man shot to death by cops was unintended victim of 'swatting' prank A Kansas man shot to death by police earlier this week was the victim of a misdirected online prank known as "swatting," according to social media chatter. The victim, identified as Andrew Finch, was gunned down on Thursday night after cops responded to his Wichita home amid a false report that he had shot his father to death and was holding his mother, brother and sister hostage. A responding officer fatally shot Finch, 28, when he came to the front door, Wichita deputy police chief Troy Livingston said during a press conference. Livingston declined to comment on what triggered the officer to open fire and would not say whether Finch was armed. But a series of Twitter posts screenshotted by the Wichita Eagle suggests that Finch became the unintended victim of a "swatting" prank after two Call of Duty players got into a heated argument about a $1 or $2 bet. Swatting is an internet prank in which someone calls the cops with a fake story about an ongoing violent crime, often involving hostages, in an attempt to spark a massive police response. The potentially devastating prank method has gained particular traction among gaming communities and the FBI estimates that some 400 cases occur annually. According to the screenshotted Twitter posts from Thursday, one Call of Duty player threatened to "swat" another gamer after exchanging harsh insults. The targeted gamer apparently provided a false address, resulting in cops showing up to Finch's home instead of his. "Someone tried to swat me and got an innocent man killed," the player tweeted as news of the fatal police shooting began to spread. The gamer who supposedly committed the prank later tweeted: "I DIDNT GET ANYONE KILLED BECAUSE I DIDNT DISCHARGE A WEAPON AND BEING A SWAT MEMBER ISNT MY PROFESSION." I hope they find this guy & send him to prison. Both tweets had been deleted as of Friday afternoon. The officer who opened fire — a seven-year veteran with the Wichita department — has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. BREAKING from @NBCInvestigates : The LAPD has arrested 25-year-old Tyler Barriss of LA, who is known online as "SWAuTistic," suspected in the Wichita, Kansas SWATTING incident that left a man dead in a police shooting. Suspect taken into custody this afternoon on a fugitive warrant in South Los Angeles. This isn't the first time Barriss has landed in trouble over fake 911 calls. In 2015, he was slammed with federal charges after getting arrested for falsely claiming to have planted bombs at the offices of an ABC affiliate in LA.

  5. An internet-famous golden retriever is homeless after a Christmas Day fire in New York. Louboutina, known on Instagram as the "Hugging Dog," makes strangers on the street smile with her acts of affection. She has nearly 200,000 followers. [ https://www.rover.com/blog/louboutina-hugging-dog-manhattan-nyc/ ] But now she and her owner, Cesar Fernandez Chavez, are the ones in need of kindness. WCBS reports that the duo's apartment building was destroyed by a Christmas Day fire. Two people were left with minor injuries. Fernandez and Louboutina lived next to the unit where the flames began. “I can sense that she’s sad,” Fernandez said. “I’m numb. I’m numb. I lost everything.” Louboutina and her owner were saved from the fire thanks to the timing of their afternoon walk. “That’s not usually the time I walk her, but I was like, ‘Hey girl, let’s go for a walk to CVS. And thank God I did,” Fernandez said. “I just went around the corner and voila, the flames were coming out of the windows.” A fellow Instagram sensation has started a GoFundMe page to help Fernandez and Louboutina get back on their feet. So far, they have raised more than $53,000 -- double the initial goal of $20,000. “It really means a lot,” Fernandez said. It's been a bad week for fires in NYC... early this morning 12 people (4 of them kids 7 and younger) died in a fire started by a 3 year old playing with a stove. It was the deadliest fire in NYC since the infamous Happy Land inferno killed 87. (Kathleen Turner's then-hubby was the landlord).

  7. LANDSCAPER'S CHALLENGE was a good show for eye candy. Marcus Irons was on once or twice, plus a very slimmed-down Pete Kuzak also appeared. This isn't from the show (it's from his company's website), but you can the transformation.

  10. Don't forget Jon's amazing ass. I once called Eric Ryan when I saw his escort ad to ask his rate. I think it was $100/hr, but I was in college & couldn't afford it. I don't know how long this was before he died, but who knows if I would've caught 'something'... I definitely would've sucked & swallowed.
  11. You could see him looking gaunt in his final videos. Darras Robert Pyron "Lee Ryder", Aug. 3, 1959 - July 10, 1991. Former San Francisco resident Robert Pyron, 31, died of AIDS complications on July 10, in Chris Brownlie Hospice in Los Angeles. A memorial service was held July 14 at Hollywood United Methodist Church, and graveside services were conducted when his ashes were interred July 26 at Montecito Memorial Park in San Bernardino. He is survived by his parents, Darras and Dorothy Pyron in Norco, California; and sister, Debbie Riseling in Riverside, California. Donations in his memory to AIDS project Los Angeles or Inland AIDS project in San Bernardino would be appreciated. Born in Willows, California, Pyron grew up in Laguna and graduated from Esperanza High School in Anaheim. His interest had always been floral design, but he preferred creating his own rather than copying them out of books. He had worked for Crosley's Flowers in Los Angeles, prepared floral arrangements for the VIP rooms at the Beverly Hills Hotel and also the ones used for set decoration on the TV series _Dynasty_. Beginning in 1982, Pyron adopted the professional name Lee Ryder for modelling and by 1984 had been seen in several gay magazine layouts and on three magazine covers. He was also much in demand for gay erotic films and made 13 between 1982 and 1986. The were _All American Boys_, _The Biggest One I Ever Saw_, _Biker's Liberty_, _A Few Good Men_, _Giants I_, _Hard_, _Huge I_, _Huge II_, _Screen Play_, _Spokes_, _Sticky Business_, _Two by Ten_, and _Winner Takes All_. In a 1984 interview in _Stallion_ magazine, he was very pragmatic about his movie stardom. "I'm in the film business as a way of opening my own flower business," he said. "I can make a lot of moeny quickly and get a grip on my future." Pyron was very much a nomad and liked to travel. He had been to Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Switzerland, Germany, and Jamaica. During the periods he settled down, he had worked for the Flower Loft in San Bernardino and Riverside and achieved the dream of having his own company. He ran Pyron Designs in the 9000 Sunset building in West Hollywood and later re-established it in San Francisco. After being diagnosed, Pyron subsequently developed PML and lost his sight. He lived in a studio apartment in San Francisco during the past year and enjoyed a more simple life, visiting at a PWA day-care center and having a few beers with the gang for happy hour at a nearby bar. Friends said he was very philosophical about his past, enjoyed the fame, traveling, and recognition for his floral creations, had a remarkable personal dignity, and was not bitter about his sight or future. When it became evident the end was near, Pyron returned to Los Angeles on June 1 and became resident of Chris Brownlie Hospice

  16. Weed and curly fries are a match made in heaven — and Jack in the Box is getting ready to cash in. The 66-year-old burger chain is teaming up with rapper Snoop Dogg’s Merry Jane cannabis site to offer the “Merry Munchie Meal” — a box of greasy stoner snacks that will sell for $4.20. The Munchie Meal is perfect for potheads “whether you’re at a concert, up late playing video games, or pulling an all-nighter,” says Iwona Alter, Jack in the Box’s marketing chief. “We are about welcoming all of our guests, no matter what they’re craving or why they’re craving it.” The Munchie Meal includes “halfsies” — a side that’s half curly fries and half onion rings — as well as tacos, five “Mini Churros,” three crispy chicken strips and a drink. Most dope smokers, however, won’t get a chance to inhale the goodies. The promotion only lasts from Jan. 18 to Jan. 25, and will only be available at three locations in California, which is legalizing pot for recreational use beginning Jan. 1. “Launching the Merry Munchie Meal is the perfect way for both companies to celebrate legalization in our shared home state of California,” said Scott Chung, chief operations officer of Merry Jane.

  18. Researchers at Innsbruck University found that people who enjoy bitter flavors like the tonic water in a gin and tonic, black coffee, and dark chocolate are more prone to "Machiavellianism, psychoticism, and narcissism," among other traits. More than 900 men and women were surveyed in the Austrian study. In addition to grading sour, salty and bitter foods on a scale, participants were asked to answer questionnaires gauging their emotional stability. "Supertasting, that is, having a high sensitivity to bitter compounds, has been consistently linked to increased emotionality in humans and rats," the study stated. "Bitter taste experiences were shown to elicit harsher moral judgements and interpersonal hostility." Scientists found that those who favored bitter food and drinks more often than not displayed a higher number of negative personality traits.
  19. Actress Lainie Kazan — who was caught red-handed as she attempted to shoplift from a California supermarket on Christmas Eve — had pulled the same stunt before, according to a report. The 77-year-old, who played the matriarch in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” filled reusable bags with $180 worth of groceries from Gelson’s in California’s San Fernando Valley and walked out to her car without paying on Sunday, sources told TMZ. An employee stopped Kazan, and authorities were notified. She had shoplifted from the same store “at least a couple times before,” and even had a routine down, the gossip site reported Friday. Kazan would fill up her basket and pretend to walk toward the check-out line, but would instead sneak out the door as another group of customers leave the store, according to the report. Security footage catches her in the act, the outlet reported. Kazan’s Christmas Eve loot included Comet and Pledge cleaning supplies, a hot rotisserie chicken, tomatoes, Jell-O and uncured pepperoni, TMZ reported. She was reportedly arrested for petty theft before being cited and released without bail. The actress’ attorney, Mark Werksman, told TMZ that Gelson’s “overreacted and didn’t give her a chance to pay,” calling the incident a misunderstanding. He also denies that the star had stolen from the store in the past.

  21. Authorities say an intoxicated Dallas woman who was on a first date with a prominent Houston trial lawyer caused at least $300,000 in damage to his art collection, including two Andy Warhol paintings. Lindy Lou Layman, 29, was arrested Saturday on criminal mischief charges after her date with Anthony Buzbee. She was released on $30,000 bond. Online court records don’t list an attorney for her. Prosecutors say Buzbee, 49, told investigators that Layman got too intoxicated on their date, so he called her an Uber after they returned to his home. Buzbee said Layman refused to leave and hid inside the home, and that when he found her and called a second Uber, she got aggressive. Authorities said she tore down several paintings and poured red wine on some while yelling obscenities. She also allegedly threw two $20,000 sculptures across the room and shattered them. The damaged Warhol paintings were each valued at $500,000 in court documents. Buzbee has represented high-profile figures, including former Texas Gov. Rick Perry in an abuse-of-power case. Then-candidate Donald Trump also visited his home last year when Buzbee held a fundraiser and donated $250,000 to Trump’s presidential campaign. I just lost any & all sympathy I may have had for him.:D:rolleyes:
  22. Rose Marie, best known for her role as Sally Rogers on “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” who had a nine-decade career in show business, died Thursday in Van Nuys, Calif. She was 94. Publicist Harlan Boll confirmed her death. Rose Marie was Emmy nominated three times for her work on “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” in which she played part of the writing team, led by Van Dyke’s Rob Petrie, for the fictional “Alan Brady Show.” The actress began a five-season stint as Sally Rogers in 1960. The recent documentary “Wait For Your Laugh” by director Jason Wise chronicled her long career. Late in life she enjoyed communicating with her fans on social media. Her official account tweeted just a few hours before her death about playing the Flamingo in Las Vegas. Decades earlier, she had been a child singing star under the name Baby Rose Marie. She began her career at 3, starring in her own show on NBC radio by the age of 5, cutting records and appearing in vaudeville, in shorts including 1929’s “Baby Rose Marie the Child Wonder” and in Paramount’s 1933 feature “International House” with W.C. Fields. Variety founder Sime Silverman himself mentioned Rose Marie in its pages for “The Child Wonder,” writing, “Though but a kidlet, she seemed to have an idea of her own.” Later, as a teenager, she became a nightclub singer before returning to radio as a comedienne. Rose Marie made a steady stream of TV appearances from the early 1970s until the early 2000s, appearing, for example, on “Adam-12” and “Kojak”; recurring as Hilda the sandwich delivery lady on “S.W.A.T.”; appearing repeatedly in different roles on “The Love Boat”; guesting on “Cagney and Lacey” and “Murphy Brown”; appearing as a series regular on the brief 1994 sports comedy “Hardball”; and guesting on “Caroline in the City” (with Amsterdam), “Wings” and “Suddenly, Susan.” She was also a semi-regular on “Hollywood Squares” in the 1980s and ’90s. Onstage, she starred with Rosemary Clooney, Helen O’Connell and Margaret Whiting in the musical revue “4 Girls 4,” which toured the U.S. and made television appearances for several years beginning in 1977. In the 2000s she appeared in another comedienne’s HBO special, “Tracey Ullman in the Trailer Tales,” and returned to the “Van Dyke” fold for Carl Reiner’s animated “The Alan Brady Show” and for 2004’s “The Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited.” Rose Marie Mazetta was born in New York City. She was married to trumpeter Bobby Guy from 1946 until his death in 1964.

  24. I had an appointment with a gastroenterologist today. I wore a Cologuard t-shirt I got in an online give-away. He was impressed. (It's extremely soft & comfortable). He wants me to have a colonoscopy at the end of January. Maybe I'll wear it again.
