Late-emerging Cy Young candidate Greg Weissert had quite an appearance in game one today. He entered in the 12th with the anemic-hitting Yanks already down 4-3 & the bases loaded with Carlos Correa & cousin Jose 'samhexum keeps calling me Juan, who used to be a Yankee' Miranda due up. He threw 3 pitches & got both out, then got his 3rd win in his last 5 appearances when they rallied in the bottom half. Or... they played great and built a big early lead, then played mostly solidly through a long run of pitching injuries, and were finally caught by a red-hot team that obviously has a blackmail tape to hold over the god of rookies. And that's said by a guy that's rooting for the Braves.

This kinda struck me as weird… Herb Kohler, billionaire heir to the faucet fortune & 3rd generation former CEO of the company, died today. He was from Wisconsin. Former Senator (& Milwaukee Bucks owner) Herb Kohl, heir to the department store fortune (though he hasn’t been involved with the company for 50 years), is worth $400 million and is from Wisconsin. HERB KOHL & HERB KOHLER?!?!? Can’t wealthy families in Wisconsin afford to give their sons unique names?

Megan Hilty is mourning her pregnant sister, brother-in-law and niece after they died in a floatplane crash Sunday. The “Smash” alum’s family members were three of the 10 passengers on board the aircraft that went down in Puget Sound in Washington, the US Coast Guard confirmed Tuesday. It is unclear what led to the crash. Lauren Hilty’s husband Ross Mickel’s family told a local news outlet that their “collective grief is unimaginable.” The statement continued, “We are deeply saddened and beyond devastated at the loss of our beloved Ross Mickel, Lauren Hilty, [their daughter] Remy and their unborn baby boy, Luca.”Enlarge Ima The Washington State Wine Commission honored Mickel with a statement of its own, as he had owned Ross Andrew Wineries since 1999. “Ross had an incredible impact on the Washington wine community, and he will be greatly missed,” the statement read. Megan, 41, has yet to publicly react to the tragedy.

@WilliamM's baseball crush should start a rehab assignment within a week. Guess who's tied for the lead in winning percentage among all MLB pitchers (minimum 2 decisions).

The teenage son of an Upper East Side apartment superintendent allegedly snuck into a tenant’s bedroom — then masturbated using her underwear while sniffing another pair. Jared Magana, 19, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court Saturday night on charges of second-degree burglary as a sexually motivated felony. Magana allegedly entered the victim’s bedroom while she was not home Thursday and rummaged through her underwear drawer unaware he was being filmed on a home-security video, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office. He returned about a half hour later and pleasured himself using one pair of underwear while holding another pair “up to his nose and face,” according to prosecutors. A roommate who noticed the apartment was in disarray checked the footage with the super and the super identified Magana as his son, the court heard. Magana — who does not have a prior criminal record — was arraigned and held on $15,000 cash bail by Judge Michael Gaffey. Prosecutors had requested a bail of $100,000. “The defendant also lives in the same building as the complainant and as the son of the super, has a concerning amount of access to the victim’s home,” Assistant District Attorney Katherine Sullivan stated in a bail application. I hope his good time was worth the legal fees & his father possibly losing his job.

Guess who got the win with 2 scoreless innings last night. 16 of 21 pitches were strikes.

Season 3 awaits! The former was delightful, and the latter was stupid and annoying... the worst part of season 2. I binged it yesterday and enjoyed season 2 a tad more than season 1, which I loved. I won't discuss the reasons why, so as not to give anything away. Loved them both this season. -
In what is sure to be a devastating blow to fans of the show, DJ will not appear in the upcoming season, though his daughter will remain a recurring character.

A scoreless inning for Weissert yesterday.

And I'm supposed to care? why? THIS is a much more important story: Matteo Berrettini, the model tennis player bringing his good looks to New York https://nypost.com/2022/08/27/meet-matteo-berrettini-the-model-tennis-player-bringing-his-good-looks-to-new-york/ I'D LIKE TO KISS HIS TROPHY The Roman native made history as the first Italian male to make it to the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slam events. His runway career took flight when a Hugo Boss exec saw him being interviewed after losing at Wimbledon in 2021. “I think one of the reasons why they chose me is also my personality. I hope it is, that’s what they told me,” he said. “So I’m glad this thing is coming out when I play.” As far as the topic on hand is concerned, I'm so sick of vaccine politics, I couldn't care less. I will say that I think it's different for an individual in a non-team sport to make the decision for himself than for the Kyrie Irvings, Nolan Arenados, & Paul Goldschmidts who are paid million$ to play a TEAM sport and then force their teams to play short-handed whenever they're in an area that won't allow unvaccinated people to play. Selfish, much?

Adrienne Bailon had a perfectly good reason for why she kept her baby news a secret from friends, family and fans — her mental health. The former “Cheetah Girls” star — who secretly welcomed her son, Ever James, earlier this month — said that after she learned her surrogate was pregnant, she only told the exciting news to six people in an attempt to keep her anxiety at bay. “It was important to me for my own mental wellbeing and for my family,” Bailon, 38, told People. “I was just like, ‘I’m just not going to say anything.’ It was actually very peaceful that way. You didn’t have other people’s opinions.” While the former talk show host wanted to share the happy news with her friends and viewers, she managed to keep the secret for nine months. “Honestly, everyone was shocked,” she told the outlet. “Even my sister, who watched ‘The Real’ throughout the whole last season, literally said to me, ‘Adrienne, I am impressed.’ She’s like, ‘I am so proud of you. You are really holding this.’ I did that because it was really sacred to me.” “We have quietly prayed while sitting on this most magnificent secret for the last nine months,” she continued. “He is worth every tear, every disappointment, every delayed prayer, every IVF cycle, every miscarriage. Everything.” Bailon and Houghton decided to try surrogacy after the actress went through eight failed in-vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles and one miscarriage. Although the couple used surrogacy for their last pregnancy, Bailon has yet to give up hope when it comes to expanding their family once again. “That’s the ultimate dream for me,” she told People. “I’m not giving up on that dream. Maybe I will carry one day and I can’t wait for that. I’m still hoping for that.” Fans and followers of the new mom — including Khloé Kardashian, her former sister-in-law (?????) — were quick to congratulate the singer on the surprising news. So, what are you sending her for a gift?

Yankee reliever Greg Weissert had a hilariously hideous debut last night. Hilarious, because the Yanks led 13-1 at the time. He's 27, from Long Island, grew up a Mets fan, and is the first Fordham University (Danny Aiello's nephew/ Yankee announcer Michael Kay's alma mater 2ish miles from the stadium) alum to play for the Yanks since 1946. The first pitch he threw in the big leagues, he hit a batter. Before he could throw his second pitch, he balked. Then with his second pitch he hit the next batter. After getting one out, he walked 2 in a row to force in a run. Lucas Luetge relieved him & allowed 2 of the 3 inherited runners to score. Weissert had about 10 friends and family members in attendance who'd flown cross-country to see him, including his college coach. Hey, but at least now he gets excellent health insurance for life.

Just as he gets set, a flash from the sky explodes down into the middle of the field. Shortstop Ray Chapman feels a surge of electricity go down his leg, and the violence of the lightning strike causes players to dive for the ground. And 51 weeks later Chapman was hit in the head with a pitch and never got up.

Strange things happen when you're married to a supermodel, I guess. Justin Upton (nee Verlander) threw 6 hitless innings last night with no walks. He didn't hit anybody, and no errors were committed behind him. He pitched to one batter over the minimum. How? On one of his 10 Ks he threw a wild pitch and the batter reached. They took him out after 6. His pitch count was 90ish, so coming off TJ surgery and with a postseason they hope extends a long time, they were never going to let him try for the no-hitter.
