Who cares(?), as long as he made it safely! A kind Irishman who stopped traffic to help a koala across a busy Australian highway has been praised for the sweet gesture. Will Thornton went viral this week after he was filmed carrying out the heroic traffic operation. Mr. Thornton is seen, barefoot, stopping traffic on a dual carriageway in Burleigh Heads as the small fury traveler crawled across the infamous busy Gold Coast Highway yesterday. “Our Irish son-in-law escorting koala across Gold Coast Hwy in Burleigh Heads this morning,” Katrina Boyle, who posted the video to Facebook, wrote. The 39-year-old told the Courier Mail he spotted the critter while having coffee on his balcony. “Myself and my wife were having a coffee on the balcony, and we noticed a koala coming out of the tree below us, and I thought it was pretty cool,” Mr. Thornton said. “He started moving towards Gold Coast Highway, I thought that would be bad, so I bolted down to help him. “He was hellbent about getting across the road. “He just sort of kept going so I had to try and stopped the traffic. I didn’t really know what the hell I was doing. “I was trying to get the cars to look.” Mr. Thornton said road users were “pretty understanding” of his demands when they saw the animal he was trying to help. “You can see in the video there’s a cyclist he had a good chuckle at me, people gave me the odd thumbs up,” the good Samaritan said. His act has now been viewed millions of times online with the public overwhelmingly praising the man for his good work. Thornton was greeted with praise online after the selfless act of helping the innocent koala was posted. Conservationists said the video should serve as a reminder that suitable koala habitats are shrinking. “Southeast Queensland is an area that has been massively impacted by clearing, largely for development and transport,” Dave Copeman from the Queensland Conservation Council told The Guardian. “We’re at the point where we just can’t have any more clearing going on – we are destroying koala habitats,” he said. “The really distressing reality is koalas face extinction in the wild if we don’t turn around the current trajectory. The science is clear.” Koala breeding season generally runs from September to February, meaning the sleepy marsupial can become more active and mobile in spring and summer months. https://nypost.com/2023/01/13/irishman-in-australia-helps-koala-cross-highway-in-viral-video/

Geez, Texas allows pugilism at a very young age! As your brother can probably confirm, bears are known to be very anti- (forest) fires.

A home-alone Labrador retriever was scarfing down holiday cookies when she accidentally turned on a gas stove, sparking a fire that nearly destroyed a suburban Frisco, Texas home, video of the canine shenanigans shows. Twitch, a silver lab, made her way into the kitchen through an open dog gate while her owner was at a relative’s house Christmas morning, Dallas’ Fox station reported. The 3-year-old was feasting on the counter near the gas range — lapping up holiday sweets — when flames started spreading in the kitchen, video obtained by the station shows. “She just pushed so perfectly and turned the stove on,” owner Megan Black said. Black was alerted that fire alarms were going off and was able to see the blaze from her home surveillance system on her phone. She then quickly called her neighbor. “Just broke down because my home was on fire,” the homeowner recounted through tears. “It was terrifying. The whole day was kind of a blur.” Her neighbor rushed to help, taking Twitch and a second pooch outside to safety. She then threw water on the flames, extinguishing the blaze before the fire department arrived. The downstairs level of the suburban Dallas property was gutted in the fire, and the entire home had smoke damage. The family will be staying in a rental for around four-to-six months. “I was never mad at her, never,” the forgiving dog mom said of Twitch. A 10-year-old boxer named Asher was also in the house, and was unharmed in the ordeal. https://nypost.com/2023/01/12/dog-starts-texas-house-fire-while-eating-cookies-off-kitchen-counter/ I hope her homeowner's insurance covers acts of Dog.

This macaroni move is giving Italian-American comfort food fans some serious agita. Pastina, the tiny, star-shaped pasta boiled for soup or prepared with butter and heaps of Parmesan cheese, could be in danger of becoming extinct after US-based brand Ronzoni announced Tuesday it would cease production of the product. The shocking communiqué had carb lovers begging the brand to reconsider — and prompted online petitions, hoarding and price-gouging, with bids for a box starting at $20 on eBay. “After extensive efforts, we regretfully announce that Ronzoni Pastina is being discontinued,” the brand posted on Instagram, citing supply-chain issues. “Unfortunately, our long-term supplier informed us that they would no longer be making Ronzoni Pastina as of January 2023,” the brand continued. “We searched extensively for an alternative solution, but were unable to identify a viable option to make Pastina in the same beloved small shape, size and standards you have come to expect.” While other brands make pastina, Ronzoni is a household name for many fans, who expressed their devastation on social media. When I was a young'n this was a staple in our home, but I think I bought it once as an adult.

The current thread about films that are too long to sit through got me thinking about some classics I was underwhelmed by. Jaws, Raiders (which I call over-raters of the lost ark), and Pulp Fiction. I wondered if there could be any common factor that led to my reaction. They're all the same genre, and even have very similar plots and settings, so that offered a clue, but perhaps this offers another: I saw each of them about 10 months after they came out. With all the hype I'd heard about them, they would've needed to be the three best films of all time to live up to expectations. And that was simply not possible-- not with the original BATMAN movie from the 60s already ensconced in the cannon of cinematic masterpieces. This all leads up to a question- Does the anticipation of waiting to see a hyped movie (or play or TV show) affect your reaction to it?

Have you ever avoided seeing a movie in a theater due to its length?

I would avoid sucking a dick if it had 4D effects, which would be more annoying than the length. -
In all fairness, I never knew Milton Berle was known for anything else, either. Other than his massive cock, of course.

When I saw Pulp Fiction my seat was seat was on the aisle of the row and I had my feet poised to spring up for the last 25 interminable minutes as it just kept going on and on. The first hour of the film was brilliant but the last 9 hours needed massive editing. I obviously wasn't the only one feeling like that. As soon as the credits began the entire packed audience stood as one, put on their coats, and silently left. I've never seen anything like that happen any other time. -
This thread has been very enlightening to me... until now, I didn't know Merman was known for anything other than her legendary appearance on BATMAN.

campaigning against a fellow actor's potential Oscar nomination... Hugh Jackman rang in the new year on Wednesday (Jan. 4) with a very serious and important request for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences … and it has to do with Ryan Reynolds. “Hey, everybody. It’s 2023 and I really, really wanted to send out a positive message at the beginning of the year, but, umm, recent events have made that impossible,” the actor said with mock seriousness straight to camera. “Don’t get me wrong, I loved Spirited. It’s a great movie, we had a blast, the entire family watched it. I love Will [Ferrell], I love Octavia [Spencer]. Obviously I did The Greatest Showman with Benj [Pasek] and Justin [Paul] — they’re incredible and I love their music … And ‘Good Afternoon,’ by the way, the song ‘Good Afternoon’? I laughed the entire way through, it is absolutely brilliant. However, I’ve just heard the Academy have shortlisted ‘Good Afternoon’ in the best song category. “Now, Ryan Reynolds getting a nomination in the best song category would make the next year of my life insufferable,” The Music Man star continued. “It would … I mean, I have to spend a year with him shooting Wolverine and Deadpool and … trust me, it would be impossible. It’d be a problem. So, just to recap, love Spirited, love Will, love Octavia, love the song ‘Good Afternoon,’ love Benj and Justin. But please, please, from the bottom of my heart, do not validate Ryan Reynolds in this way. Please.” While Jackman may be hilariously rooting against his co-star, even if “Good Afternoon” earns the Oscar nomination for best original song, the Wolverine actor may be happy to learn that Reynolds himself would not receive a nod. The song’s writers — Khiyon Hursey, Sukari Jones, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul and Mark Sonnenblick — would be the nominees. https://www.billboard.com/music/awards/hugh-jackman-jokingly-begs-oscars-not-give-ryan-reynolds-nod-1235193887/

The only 2 movies I can remember walking out of were Blade Runner (saw alone) & Down and Out in Beverly Hills (saw with a friend and we both left). I tried to walk out of Grease (Grease is the worst... the worst... the worst...) but the friend I was with wouldn't let me because it was a late show & he didn't want to walk home alone. BTW, I'm sure it's just a co-inky-dink, but the first two theaters were torn down years ago, and the theater where I saw Grease (& Worst Encounters) was converted to a church a long time ago.

When I was a teen The Exorcist was re-released in theaters, but with an intermission. A bunch of us from the neighborhood went to see it and when the intermission came all the girls wanted to leave because it was so scary, but none of the guys would because it was so funny (it remains one of the best comedies I've ever seen). I wish I had let its length dissuade me from seeing Close Encounters Of The Worst Kind... longest 15 hours I ever spent in a theater. I guess it only felt like 15 hours. -
Oh dear! It happened again Colts quarterback Nick Foles exited Indianapolis’ game against the Giants late in the second quarter and was ruled out with a rib injury. Here’s what you should know: Foles was carted off the field after tripping over his dick...

Dinosaur fossils are found throughout the world, but an "exceptionally rare" discovery sheds light on what type of animals a dinosaur fed on – mammals. In the early 2000s, the fossil of a Microraptor zhaoianus – a feathered dinosaur the size of a crow that lived about 120 million years ago – was found in northeast China. Although it was observed shortly after its discovery, Hans Larsson, a professor at McGill University in Canada, recently noticed animal remains were inside the dinosaur's fossil. A team of international researchers then researched the remains to confirm they belonged to the foot of a mammal. The findings were published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology. Dinosaur and other ancient animal meals have been observed before, but only about 20 times, according to a press release from McGill University. The new discovery also is the first proof that dinosaurs fed on mammals. "It’s so rare to find examples of food inside dinosaurs so every example is really important as it gives direct evidence of what they were eating," David Hone, professor at Queen Mary University of London, said in a statement. Artistic rendition of Microraptor zhaoianus. Researchers found that the foot belonged to an animal about the size of a mouse. Analysis of the bones suggested it was a ground animal that wasn't good at climbing, which made it an interesting choice of food for the Microraptor, because it spent most of its life gliding from tree to tree. The dinosaur is from the early Cretaceous Period, when present-day China was covered with forests. Previous research found the species ate fish, birds and lizards, so researchers were unsure whether it preyed on the mammal or scavenged a dead mammal. Larsson said the findings suggested the dinosaur was not a picky eater and could be evidence of a general dinosaur carnivore. But one thing researchers could confirm: The mammal wasn't related to humans. "While this mammal would absolutely not have been a human ancestor, we can look back at some of our ancient relatives being a meal for hungry dinosaurs," Hone said. "This study paints a picture of a fascinating moment in time – one of the first record of a dinosaur eating a mammal – even if it isn’t quite as frightening as anything in Jurassic Park."
