Maybe they should call him Carlos AlcaTraz... World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz admitted Wednesday that his dad likely was recording Novak Djokovic’s training at Wimbledon after a report surfaced from Serbian outlet b92 that Alcaraz’s father “closely followed the events at Djokovic’s training” and was “at one point recording everything that was happening.” Alcaraz, the 20-year-old Spanish phenom, is on track to face Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. Alcaraz insisted there was nothing fishy going on with his father’s filming. “My father is a huge fan of tennis,” he said. “He doesn’t only watch my matches. I think he gets into the club at 11 a.m., gets out at 10 p.m., watching matches, watching practice from everyone, being able to watch Djokovic in real life, yeah, probably it is true he’s filmed the sessions.” The reigning U.S. Open champion said he doesn’t think film from those practice sessions would play a role during a potential matchup with the Serbian tennis legend, who owns the men’s tennis record with 23 major titles. “I don’t think so,” he said, smiling. “I mean, I have a lot of videos from Djokovic on every platform. I think it’s not an advantage for me.” The filming saga, dubbed “Spygate” by the British press, recycling the name of the infamous NFL scandal involving Bill Belichick’s Patriots, picked up steam when Djokovic, 36, asked during his press conference for more privacy. “The circumstances are such that we don’t have privacy in training, although sometimes I would like to have more privacy,” Djokovic said. “Then it gives me more opportunities to try some things, to communicate more clearly with my team. “The fact is that you are not completely relaxed in training. You know your rivals are there, you know everyone is looking over your shoulder at what’s going on, what you’re working on. Every shot is measured, evaluated and assessed. “That, through some analysis, affects the eventual meeting with Alcaraz or anyone. Concentration is required. For me, training is like a match. I bring that intensity to training as well.”

Social Security recipients finally have something to cheer about: the forecast for next year’s Social Security increase edged up on Wednesday even after the government said inflation cooled further in June. YIPPIE! Lower inflation is generally welcomed because people are regaining their purchasing power. but Social Security recipients, used to seeing their potential cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) decline with slower inflation, got an unusual extra surprise. COLA is estimated at 3% next year, according to a forecast from The Senior Citizens League, a nonprofit seniors group. That’s much less than the four-decade high of 8.7% COLA in 2023 but above last month’s estimate for a 2.7% increase for 2024. The average trailing twelve-month inflation rate that the league uses to project inflation in coming months rose slightly, affecting "our COLA estimate rising from 2.7% last month to 3% based on the June data," said Mary Johnson, Social Security and Medicare policy analyst at The Senior Citizens League. The average monthly check for Social Security beneficiaries was $1,701.62 in May, according to SSA. A 3% COLA would mean about an extra $51 each month. Cautious optimism Ebbing inflation coupled with a higher COLA is music to a Social Security recipient's ear, but Johnson warned that this could all change again. "There are still three more months of data before the COLA is announced in October and this estimate could change," she said. COLA is determined using the average inflation of July, August and September and then comparing it to the year-ago figure. The percentage difference between the two is the amount of the COLA. Additionally, Social Security recipients won’t learn the bottom line until the Medicare Part B premiums are announced. Part B premiums are automatically deducted from most beneficiaries’ Social Security benefits. "In many years, the Part B premium increase can take most, or even all, the COLA, leaving little else to cover other rising prices," Johnson said. In March, Medicare Trustees forecasted monthly Part B premiums would increase to $174.80 in 2024 from $164.90 this year. "But that’s an estimate, and it doesn’t include any significant new costs that come up after the estimate is released," Johnson said. "One of the most significant new costs could be Medicare’s coverage for a new Alzheimer’s drug —lecanemab, known by the brand name Leqembi, which is expected to cost $26,000 per year without insurance." The next COLA will be announced in October and be effective starting January 2024. https://www.aol.com/social-security-cola-2024-estimates-180424412.html

Wall Street got an extra dose of encouragement to bid up stocks after another inflation report reinforced bets the Federal Reserve is approaching an interest-rate peak. All of a sudden, “disinflation” becomes the buzzword across trading desks, with investors looking on the bright side of data showing a slowdown in prices — even though core inflation is still running above the central bank’s 2% target. Equities gained further traction on news that Fed Bank of St. Louis President James Bullard — who called for aggressive hikes to fight the recent inflation surge — has resigned. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-07-12/stock-market-today-dow-s-p-live-updates?srnd=markets-vp#xj4y7vzkg

Okay, which one of you Canadian perverts has been showing porn to the apes? Toronto Zoo urges visitors to quit showing ‘upsetting’ cell phone videos to gorillas The Toronto Zoo is urging visitors to stop showing gorillas cell phone videos as some of the unmoderated content could be “upsetting” — and even addictive — to the primates. “We just want the gorillas to be able to be gorillas,” behavioral husbandry supervisor Hollie Ross told CP24 last Thursday. “And when our guests come to the zoo, we want them to be able to see gorillas in a very natural state, and what they would be doing naturally – to sort of connect with them on that level.” Newly posted signs requested visitors refrain from showing the animals any videos or photos “as some content can be upsetting and affect their relationship and behavior within their family,” according to a photo posted by the news outlet. One of the gorillas at the Toronto Zoo, named Nassir, is particularly susceptible to vids. “Nassir is truly the epitome of a teenager, fascinated by videos and screen time would dominate his life if he had his way,” the zoo said in their description of him. “I think, mostly, he was seeing videos of other animals,” Ross told CT24. “But, I think what is really important is that he’s able to just hang out with his brother and be a gorilla.” The zoo hasn’t noticed any significant changes in the gorillas’ behavior from the video viewing so far. While guests aren’t encouraged to show them the latest viral TikTok or Instagram post, the zoo does play videos for the gorillas. But they are careful what they show them. “We just want to make sure that we know the content,” Ross reportedly said. “Very much like managing an account for a child or something, you want to make sure that your parental controls are on, and that you’re in control of what the content is that they’re seeing.”

Brooklyn’s Once Opulent Paramount Theatre to Be Restored by Global Entertainment Giant A phoenix rises at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue Extension and DeKalb Avenue: After a false start and a change of operators, the formerly magnificent but long-defunct Brooklyn Paramount Theatre in Fort Greene is being revamped by the world’s largest live entertainment company and will reopen in 2024 as a major live-act venue. The Paramount, which debuted in 1928 and had multiple lives as a movie theater and music venue, was taken over in 1962 by Long Island University, its resplendent music hall converted to a gym, with the stage removed but its elaborate gilded latticework ceiling remaining, and upstairs offices used for academic purposes. The theater in 1947. Photo via Long Island University In 2015, the then-operator of Barclays Center, Mikhail Prokhorov’s Onexim, announced an ambitious $50 million plan to renovate the creaky Paramount and restore it as a performance venue, well after the gym had relocated. But that plan never fully launched, and ran aground after Prokhorov sold the Brooklyn Nets and the arena company. Even the university’s own student newspaper, as of late 2021, wondered about the theater’s fate, while the school’s Paramount web page has not been updated. Left: The theater in 1954. Photo by Susan De Vries Getting ready for 2024 Despite no official announcement or fanfare—other than a teaser video from Schimenti, the construction company working on the restoration and modernization—the entertainment giant Live Nation, which operates Brooklyn Bowl and Irving Plaza (among many others), is readying the theater at 385 Flatbush Avenue Extension, to be known as the LIU Brooklyn Paramount Theatre, for a reopening in the first or second quarter of 2024. In a presentation last month to Community Board 2’s Health, Environment & Social Services Committee, Live Nation reps described the plans and programs. They gained unanimous support from the subcommittee, and later the full board, for the venue’s pending liquor license, serving indoors until 4 a.m. The new proposal for the exterior from Live Nation. Image via Brooklyn Community Board 2 The renovated Paramount, at least according to the images provided, will have a relatively restrained exterior appearance, compared to the version proposed in 2015, with a smaller marquee and no vertical banners. The considerable original detail remaining on the walls and ceiling of the baroque-style theater and in its lavish columned lobby will be retained, renderings show, and a new box office will be created. While the theater will mainly host musical events, it also will feature family shows, comedy, sporting events, special events, private programs for Long Island University, and community events. Live Nation, which with Ticketmaster is part of Live Nation Entertainment, has a 25-year lease, according to the presentation, but the terms—and the renovation budget—haven’t been announced. (None of the principals responded to queries.) While Long Island University didn’t comment by this publication’s deadline, in 2015 President Kim Cline said the return of the Paramount would bring “our commitment to the arts–and our role in the arts community–to an entirely new level,” solidifying “our role as a major cultural driver in Brooklyn.” Live Nation’s presentation said the space could accommodate 1,200 seated and 2,600 total. As of 2015, the university said a flexible seating configuration would “accommodate primarily general admission-style setups.” Some 120 to 150 workers will be hired, many of them part-time. So the Paramount, which sits over the DeKalb Avenue subway stop for the Q, R, and other lines, could thus compete with the larger—though more distant from the subway—Kings Theatre in Flatbush and even with some smaller Barclays Center events. Making the case At Community Board 2, lobbyist Michael Woloz explained that Live Nation had provided a tour for Community Board 2’s chair and district manager, and had met with stakeholders including Council Member Crystal Hudson and Borough President Antonio Reynoso, the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. John Huff, Live Nation’s Northeast regional VP and the general manager of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, cited past Paramount performers such as Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Miles Davis—others included Alan Freed, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Buddy Holly, and Chuck Berry —and said that Fitzgerald inspired the venue’s new Ella’s Lounge. Restoration workers have been cleaning the accumulated “grit and grime” from the interior. The security check for attendees will take place in the entry lobby, while guests gathering before doors open will line up in front of the building, “but probably 40 feet from the sidewalk itself so there won’t be any impact there from our guests,” Huff said. A second set of doors will be closed during performances to mitigate any escaping sound. “We did two sound studies in the design of this building,” Huff said, to ensure the sound wouldn’t impact Long Island University’s classrooms, “and we feel like that mitigation really helps on the outside as well.” The structure is three stories, with limited box seating upstairs. The theater has ramps, rather than stairs. Loading will occur on Hudson Avenue behind the Paramount, minimizing the impact on DeKalb Avenue, Huff said, while garbage bins will remain inside before pickup. Security questions All security guards will be Live Nation employees. Committee Chair Brandon Smith asked for details. “We try to staff one security guard to every 250 guests and sometimes we get down as low as one to 150,” Huff responded. Regarding intoxicated customers, “our security will be the first line and then the NYPD will be the second,” Huff said. “Also on certain shows, we’ll have medical on site.” He noted that Brooklyn Hospital is virtually next door. Regarding underage drinking, Huff said that DLS, which is Live Nation’s primary concession operator, provides wristbands to anyone 21 years or older Committee response Committee members were generally positive. Emily Anadu thanked Live Nation for outreach to the tenant associations at the nearby Whitman and Ingersoll housing projects, who might be seeking jobs. (That outreach was, as of Live Nation’s presentation, planned but not yet accomplished.) Committee member Jeffrey Ryan, noting the applicant’s invocation of Black entertainers at the Paramount, asked about the role of minority investors. Huff said Live Nation is publicly traded. Ryan suggested that “Live Nation should be willing to think about contributing to the community in a large way.” Anadu asked about the ownership of DLS, the liquor licensee, and was told it is a closely held company, and none of the principals are people of color. Chairman Smith suggested the applicants be mindful of those concerns. What about the organ? Another question mark involves what Long Island University calls “an incredible piece of theater history in our Wurlitzer 4/26 orchestral organ,” one of only two such models in operation, with the other at Radio City Music Hall. “We’re preserving the space for [the organ] there as well,” Huff said, without indicating how and whether it might be used. That, presumably, will be up to Long Island University. A rendering of the 2015 plan. Dan Benson has no problem baring it all on OnlyFans, but there’s one thing he won’t do. “I’m not going to have sex with men on camera because everyone wants to see it,” he tells Page Six exclusively. “I don’t want to look back in 10 years and go, ‘OK, I made all this money, I got all this fame because of this, but goddamn it, I was doing all these things that made me feel uncomfortable just for that,'” he explains. Benson, 35, estimates that “99 percent” of his subscribers on the NSFW site are gay men. While the “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum admits to “pushing my boundaries of things I’m comfortable with” while creating content for his page, he tell us, “I am straight. I’m very comfortable making content for gay men. I specifically make content for gay men.” Benson shares that learning about gay culture has been an interesting journey for him. “It’s specifically not my thing,” he concedes, “but I totally get it, and I’ve also learned what they’re looking for in terms of what really attracts gay men. “There’s a lot of aspects of sex. Like, not to be vulgar, but, like, ass play that straight men also enjoy, but there’s a stigma around that for straight men to be comfortable about being open of their enjoyment of ass play. There’s a huge stigma that if you have anything to do with experiencing orgasm through your butt, you’re gay, but that’s absolutely not true.” Benson gained fame playing nerd Zeke Beakerman on “Wizards of Waverly Place” alongside Selena Gomez and David Henrie between 2007 and 2012. He fell into OnlyFans by accident when years ago he began chatting with a person online for more than a year. “It just became such a long-term thing that I felt like I knew them and then ended up sending nude photos to them,” he tells Page Six. “And it was months and months later that I kind of found out that those nude photos had been leaked online and that there’s now websites that are selling those pictures and videos.” When OnlyFans gained popularity, he began thinking back to those leaked nudes. “I had grown into understanding it and being comfortable with my own sexuality, and the thought of doing it publicly, it just didn’t scare me at all,” he adds, noting that he waited “at least a year or more” to take the plunge. Benson declines to go into hard numbers but teases that he is earning “a lot,” adding, “I’m doing better than I’ve ever done in my entire life by a long shot.” He sagely notes that there is a plethora of free porn available but understands why people pay for OnlyFans, pinpointing it to a connection that fans feel with his “Wizards” role. “I didn’t realize that my character was in the household of millions and millions of people, and people developed a relationship with this character in their minds,” he theorizes. “And so it’s fun for them to be able to now — as they’re, as we’re all adults — go and kind of reconnect into that world. “And I get messages all the time from people that say, ‘Hey, you were actually my gay awakening. ‘And first of all, that’s super flattering for me. That’s incredibly endearing and awesome. And [it] is funny to me because Zeke was, like, the dorky, goofy character on ‘Wizards of Waverly Place.’ So I’m like, it’s shocking to me, but I think that’s cool.” Benson, who jokily describes himself as a cross between a “twink” and a “hunk,” admits he now has to keep up with his gym routine. “It’s a completely different level of fitness,” he says. “The gay community takes fitness seriously, and they put it to levels that are extreme. … I absolutely work out knowing that this is part of the job, and I take my job seriously.” And the former TV star is grateful for his job, which he says is more involved than people realize. “Everyone makes fun, like, ‘You do OnlyFans for a living,'” he shares. “It’s easy, and I’m not going to complain because, yes, this job is easy and freaking awesome and the best, and trust me, I’m fully aware that I’m one of the luckiest humans on Earth when it comes to jobs. “But that doesn’t mean I just, like, sit around all day. Like, I wake up, I work out for an hour to two hours a day [and], you know, work. I treat it like a full-time job because I had so many full-time jobs leading up to this.” https://pagesix.com/2023/07/09/disney-alum-dan-benson-reveals-what-he-wont-do-on-onlyfans/?_gl=1*1qkb99q*_ga*MTQ1ODcxMDMxOS4xNjIzMjIzODk2*_ga_0DZ7LHF5PZ*MTY4ODkyMTA2MC4xODIuMS4xNjg4OTIxMjQ2LjAuMC4w&_ga=2.115551621.288198343.1688186798-1458710319.1623223896

Northwestern players reveal alleged hazing included 'barbaric' and 'inhumane' sexual acts The hazing conduct in Northwestern’s football program, which the school released investigative findings on Friday, involved coerced sexual acts, according to two anonymous players — one current, one former — who spoke to The Daily Northwestern, the school’s student newspaper. The current player claimed coach Pat Fitzgerald, who was suspended without pay for two weeks, might have been aware of the hazing. The former player told the outlet that he reported the conduct, which included a practice called “running,” to the university in late November 2022. “Running” involved being restrained by a group of 8-to-10 upperclassmen dressed in masks who would then dry-hump the victim in a dark locker room.

A judge ordered influential media reporter Yashar Ali to direct all of his future earnings to Ariadne Getty until he repays a $232,769 loan from the California heiress. California Judge Michael Stern ruled that Getty is entitled to Ali’s earnings from his journalistic work, Substack subscriptions and reader donations. Ali — who boasts more than 700,000 followers on Twitter and was named by Time magazine in 2019 as one of “the 25 most influential people on the internet” — borrowed nearly $200,000 from Getty sometime in 2015, according to court documents. The filing said Getty, the granddaughter of oil magnate J. Paul Getty, loaned Ali the money with the understanding that he would pay her in increments of $500 per month, with interest. Ali, 43, defaulted after just two payments, and interest ballooned his debt to Getty to $232,769. Ali and Getty reportedly became friends during Ali’s time working as a political operative and adviser to California Gov. Gavin Newsom during his gubernatorial campaign in 2008. By 2017, Ali and Getty’s relationship had soured, as Getty claimed she had dished out $179,000 over the course of two-plus years and had yet to be repaid. In April, Getty hired a debt collector in an effort to seize Ali’s income. Though no longer in politics, court documents showed that Ali makes his earnings as a contributing journalist to HuffPost, New York Magazine and MSNBC News. The 2021 LA Magazine profile of Ali first revealed that the journalist was encountering financial hardship. “He’s been evicted from multiple residences, defaulted on several loans and has racked up tens of thousands of dollars in tax liens,” the outlet reported. It also said he “preferred to live in the homes of generous friends” rather than have a fixed address. “But sometimes he overstays his welcome,” according to LA Magazine. One of those friends was comedian Kathy Griffin, whom Ali befriended over social media in 2017 after Griffin was ousted from her job at CNN over a photo shoot where she posed with a prop resembling the bloody decapitated head of Donald Trump. Ali reportedly became Griffin’s unofficial publicist and agreed to work with her in exchange for housing and use of a car. He lived in her 13,000-square-foot Bel-Air mansion for nine months before he was asked to leave. According to LA Magazine, two of Griffin’s part-time assistants oversaw Ali as he packed his belongings. Griffin was thought to be “uncomfortable and maybe even afraid” of her house guest. Maybe I'll offer him the use of my spare bedroom... NOT!!!

Anybody else get confused by those who use plural, not gender-neutral?
samhexum replied to a topic in The Lounge
Demi Lovato wasn't confused; she/they was/were just tired... FOR DEMI LOVATO, the process of figuring out their gender identity has been mostly explorative but also tiring. In May 2021, the musician announced that they identify as non-binary and would use they/them pronouns going forward. Then, just over a year later, they shared that they’re also comfortable using she/her pronouns, citing that she had been feeling more feminine. Now, in a recent interview with GQ Hype Spain, she revealed that in reality, using both she/her and they/them pronouns just meant she didn’t have to constantly explain herself to people. “I constantly had to educate people and explain why I identified with those pronouns. It was absolutely exhausting. And that is one of the reasons that have led me to also feel comfortable with the feminine pronoun,” Lovato explained in the interview, translated from Spanish. “I just got tired. But for that very reason I know that it is important to continue spreading the word.” Sam Smith made the switch to they/them pronouns in 2019 after coming out as non-binary. “I understand there will be many mistakes and misgendering, but all I ask is you please please try,” they wrote on Twitter at the time. Lovato shared a similar sentiment a few months after their own switch, tweeting: “If you misgender me — that’s okay. I accidentally misgender myself sometimes. It’s a huge transition to change the pronouns I’ve used for myself my entire life. And it’s difficult to remember sometimes!” -
