Sad to hear that! Quite the opposite happened to me. YES! Gonorrhea and Chlamydia also as happened to me after getting head from an escort. It can be asymptomatic for the carrier in the throat and rectum that is why swab cultures are necessary.

I hate to sound like a public service announcement. But I just had a THIRD friend tell me that as a gay man (who regularly sucks other guys to completion), he went into his doctor for a full STD screening (because of a chronic sore throat) and the (straight uninformed) family practitioner tested him for gonorrhea and chlamydia by giving him a urine test... only. THIS DOESN'T WORK.

 

When he and I talked and I expressed dismay, he followed up with his doctor, who insisted "people don't really get that in their throat - it's very, very unlikely". So he went to another doctor who swabbed. Sure enough... he had gonococcal gonorrhea.

 

I can attest that I personally have had gonorrhea in my throat (in the distant past) and I've known several other friends who have also. And of them - only about half had symptoms... the others just had knowledgeable doctors who knew their risk behaviors and wisely checked them in routine testing.

This is SO very true. Not all medical personnel are informed on the ways STD's can be transmitted especially among gay men or even among bi and heterosexuals in the fetish scene. Once I had to request and explain why I wanted a throat culture to a shocked seasoned older male doctor. Another time I caught Chlamydia by receiving oral sex from a now retired escort in Vancouver.
