As the resident filipino on this forum (not sure if there are others), geographically Philippines is closer to mainland Asia ( roughly kinda similar distance as Japan to the continent) than it is to Polynesia. Most filipinos identify as south-east Asian. We share many pre-colonialised culture and language with Malaysia and Indonesia, and have taken on Chinese culture just as much as Spanish and American culture. Filipinos can be dark and look Samoan due to stronger ties to the indigenous cultures, or even Central/South American due to historic ties to Latin America, or look light due to the mixed Spanish heritage, or even more asian due to Chinese, Japanese, or Korean due to more recent migration.

I'm so sorry to hear about this situation. It sounds like it's incredibly rough. I'm glad that you felt you were able to turn to us.

I, too, am supportive of you and your husband going to marriage counseling - if that's something he is willing to take on with you. Either way, it sounds like it might be helpful for you even if he doesn't wish to attend.

It sounds like clear communication may have helped this situation not get escalated. It also seems like there isn't a clear and open space for that. I hope you can find that.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support. And though we don't know each other, I welcome you to reach out to me if you need a shoulder to lean on.

As you have highlighted trying to make amends as your first 2 choices, I'm going to assume that your priority is maintaining this relationship. Escortrod's advice to first broach the subject of the both of you seeing a relationship counsellor first is sound. It could support the first (and maybe even the second) choice as it should help to identify where the barriers for miscommunication has happened within your relationship, and possibly help to facilitate dialogue as to your respective needs for intimacy. Having this sort of discourse is best mediated, as your husband is processing a lot of anger and distrust.

I hope it all works out in the end.

I think you should apologize to your partner about not being open and honest with him about your extra-curricular affairs. But I don’t think you should apologize for having them. IMHO, celibacy is not a reasonable demand to make in a relationship; honesty is.

After you have apologized and given him some time and space, he will hopefully back down on the threats and instead become open to a more constructive dialogue. If he insists on divorce, I would not assume it will all be on his terms, at least not without speaking to a family law attorney in your state.

I think, as others have mentioned, that couples counseling would be very helpful.

This is very serious. Please get some counseling just for yourself.

    We are here for you.

    Wishing you a happy resolution.

Although I do objectively recognise Mr Efron to be attractive, I think a major reason as to why I don't have an urgency towards him is that the sum of all his parts reads as conventional to me. From an early age, he has pretty much played the popular good looking jock kid, and now the popular jock, and that's kinda of a turn off for me.

On my bucket list. I agree, the ads are very enticing. Only been there once, years ago, only for an overnight, and not even actually in London. Stayed in Middlesex, near Heathrow, when unable to make a connection to NYC.

I don't really use rentmen so I couldn't really say, but yeah I find that communicating with escorts through the sleepyboy email system to be unreliable, and much better if you send them a text.

Definitely visit London, even if you don't meet up with Jacob, plenty of quality guys here

Well, I emailed Jacob a few weeks ago to ask if he ever traveled to the U.S. I did it through Sleepyboy as I haven’t had much luck when emailing through Rentmen. I prefaced my message that he need not respond at that time as I was in the U.S., but I asked if he ever had plans to visit the U.S., and if so, to let me know then.

Haven’t heard back, so I suppose he doesn’t travel. I did think I would get a token response thanking me for my interest. Or, it could be he never got the message because Sleepyboy’s email is just as unreliable as Rentmen’s.

Wondering if an trip to London is in my future.

Being born and raised from Oakland this has hit me pretty hard in the chest. My friends and family and I are all waiting with bated breath just hoping that nobody we know is announced as passed on. I was back home ironically this weekend for work and drove by the site and my heart sank. I think everyone wants to find someone to blame yes but I'm with the poster above that said our energy is better spent finding out who needs our help. A lot of the buildings in that area aren't up to code and the landlords are too lazy to make the necessary updates and such. It's just a very sad week for my hometown

I understand the desire to find who is at blame in this terrible incident, but I really feel that right now our energy is better spent asking "who needs our help" versus "who is to blame". It does appear that the owner was negligent in many ways, and that will be addressed, but it doesn't appear that this was an act of violence or intent. I'm just feel that compassion is more important than condemnation.

"No, she's ok with me fucking guys, she just doesn't like when I fuck other girls, but I really like pussy."

Americans have a rather Euro-centric world view and aren't very familiar with Asia at all. So in the USA .."Asian" pretty much means stereo-typical "Charlie-Chan". Everything else in Asia is unfamiliar to them. There are 55 distinct ethnic groups in China alone.

Asians and Pacific Islanders generally consider themselves the same interest group in the US. (We can argue over the correct classification of Filipinos, but the ones I know consider themselves Asian, not Pacific Islanders.) When I went to law school, I was a member of the [name of school] Asian-American Law Students Association; it is now the [name of school] Asian-American and Pacific Islander Law Students Association.
