In light of recent market volatility I decided to check on Verizon’s performance this year. This is what I discovered: Jan 1 price: 40.21 Mar 10 price: $46.89 Increase of $6.68 per share - 16.6% increase YTD It appears to have held up well. I suspect people are parking some of their excess cash in VZ because of their relatively safe dividend return. No crystal ball here but I personally think we’re in for a fair amount of market turmoil until things settle down regarding all the tariffs and political uncertainty . Good luck to all investors.

Yes, it’s true that AT&T cut its dividend but you only presented half of the story. They also spun off the entertainment portion of the company in the form of Warner Brother Discovery stock when they cut their dividend. AT&T has come full circle…..first as AT&T, then divested into the Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) and now back to AT&T. Neither Verizon nor AT&T are going anywhere. They’ve been around for decades and pay above average dividends. Are they a growth stock? No. Like Jawjateck said….they’re more like a bond. My mom used to call these types of stocks “little blue-haired lady stocks” because so many old women owned them solely for the dividend. I personally believe they don’t do any harm in someone’s portfolio, in moderation of course.

I’ve owned VZ for decades strictly for the dividends and have reinvested those dividends to purchase more shares of VZ. I own shares that cost me around $29 and others in the $60 range. For me, VZ is a dividend play and nothing more. It provides me with $6,000 annually to spend as I choose. As long as the dividend holds I’m good with VZ. I certainly don’t consider it a growth stock. Im not sure what your financial goals or needs are but owning VZ at its current price seems like a conservative investment and would be a nice addition to a diversified portfolio.

I suspect there are several members here that have a net worth in excess of $1,000,000 but I doubt many have an income of more than $1,000,000. I can think of a couple of Forum members who routinely let us know how much money they spend on providers. More power to them. I’m envious. In the meantime I’m content to be able to afford to lay on the beach, enjoy warm tropical breezes and cool waves from time to time.

I’m waiting for my capital gains distributions in December and will then cash out of the market and take my very substantial gains from the past two years. I’ll then take a wait and see stance for the next several months. Proposed tax cuts, possible tariffs with accompanying inflation and a ballooning federal deficit don’t bode well in my estimation. At my age I’m looking for capital retention. I’m too old to weather another recession. Only time will tell. I’m taking care of me the best I know how. My financial journey is different from everyone else’s. Will the market hit 44,000? Again, time will tell.

I was a licensed massage therapist in Texas several years ago and draping was not required. The client was free to choose if he wanted draping. Unless they’ve changed the law in Texas the LMT and client can agree to what draping the client wants. Of course, the therapist must be clothed. I will research Texas law again to make sure and report back. Reporting back….Texas law requires clients to be draped when receiving a massage in a licensed massaged establishment (think Massage Envy types of businesses). A LMT who conducts business as a sole proprietor is exempted from draping requirements.

I plead total ignorance on purchasing real estate in Palm Springs but I had a conversation many years ago with a friend of mine who indicated that while you may purchase a home there you may not be purchasing the land it sits on. You actually sing a multi-year lease or something like that. My recollection is that this has something to do with tribal lands. Someone who is more familiar with this topic hopefully will clarify this.
