I also appreciate the resurrection of this thread, because last week I made the paradoxically difficult and humane appointment to have my 15-year-old basset-dachshund euthanized. Fortunately for me, Phoebe's veterinarians suspended their current protocols of not letting humans in their office. I appreciated their empathy and support. Robert Woodruff Anderson's quotation, "Death ends a life, but it doesn't end a relationship." has helped me cope with this sad transition. Photographs, warm memories, and shared anecdotes from those who knew Phoebe have begun to work their magic of eclipsing my grief.

Update: 3.15.21. Called the hospital @ 8:30am NY time to inquire about daddy’s/Guy Fawkes condition. There has been no change. He remains sedated, on a ventilator, with a feeding tube. There have been several unsuccessful attempts to wake him. The hospital said they “don’t want to sugar coat his condition”. Simply put, it doesn’t look good.
 
I’ll contact the social worker later today and see if she’s had any luck locating a family member or someone who can act as his legal guardian.
