Good questions @builder boy. I know $10k sounds like a lot of money (and it is). The costs here are estimates: The WA team will have to travel to LV a few times ($1000/trip). They have paid his burial expenses ($1500). They are paying 2 months rent + utilities (at least) on Daddy's apartment to "keep the lights on" ($2000-2500). They are paying the site monthly hosting fees ($100/month). There are many unknowns ahead, including and especially if any legal advice is needed ($0000s). There may be costs associated with moving the current site or creating a new copy of the site if for some reason they cannot based on the computer access they have (passwords etc). If I had to guess, $10k will not be nearly enough. After this fundraiser is complete, I'm handing the baton off to someone else in the community who is willing to step up.

I am willing to help maintain the server and keep the site online. Right now this site is running on my personal server. Long term it will be important to move it into its own island separate from my personal situation as I refuse to have the same thing that happened to this site twice previously occur again if something were to happen to me. I've spoken with Orin about this and have outlined some ideas around how to document what is needed for someone to take on "survivorship". This will include documenting all critical service logins (such as for the Xenforo software, for the domain hosting, for the domain DNS, etc)... how to access it, etc. It will also include having the site being self-contained where it's separate from the administrator personally. This role can also be shared with any other sysadmin who is comfortable with linux system administration and web services (apache, mysql, php, etc.)

What I do *not* want is to have any direct control over any sort of money. In the interest of this being a community, it would not be good for me to have control over everything. Whomever is going to be in charge of the money can make payments on behalf of the site, etc. I personally see it as a checks/balances thing. I'm NOT Daddy/Hooboy and I would never try to impose myself as such. Instead my goal is to simply do my part as a member of the community to ensure the site survives.

I would suggest that the admins of the board, as the people Daddy put his trust in, should probably be the final decisionmakers, unless they for whatever reason don't want the task. Not saying others shouldn't feel free to suggest stuff, but too many cooks and all that.

Respectfully, you guys are trying to read minds. You simply don't know what's behind the flaking. Let me be very clear, I'm not defending the flaking behavior. But despite a total lack of information, you have concluded that the only options are:

    * drugs
    * a psychiatric diagnosis
    * an unspecified character flaw with value judgment attached ("immaturity")

I'm not trying to find a potential excuse for the flaking behavior. I'm just saying there are lots of other reasons people flake. They aren't good reasons to flake, but they aren't necessarily so personally damning of someone's character.

"Ghosting" -- from someone you've never met -- does not suggest "significant animus/anger." You're taking that way too personally. I mean, come on, we've all used hookup apps in our time. We've all had someone vanish on us after we started making plans to meet. It's not because they hate you, it's because they don't know you, they don't really care about you, and a better opportunity came along.

Is it nice to just vanish? No. Is it good practice for one's reputation? Of course not. But it might just be a cold hard calculation about the best use of their time. I may not agree with the math -- it doesn't take long to send one text that says "Sorry, something came up, I have to cancel." But this really is how a lot of people think. Again: see Manhunt. The fact that the person you are talking to was talking to you in the first place to make money, rather than out of pleasure, only makes this more likely.

If I were going to read minds in a similar way, I might say that the only possible reason your conclusions are limited to personally damning ones are because you're needy and have poor boundaries, or you are clueless as to how human interactions work. IMPORTANT NOTE: I do not actually think these things And there isn't any real evidence to suggest them -- just a super speculative interpretation of the circumstances that ends up being more judgmental than insightful. See what I mean?

The USA has a very long history of violating American civil and privacy rights at its borders and within the constitutional rights "exclusion zone." It's only gotten worse since 9/11 and now under the current xenophobic administration.

Anyone, American or not, would be very wise to be on their best behavior and have excellent opsec when entering or leaving the USA. Doubly so since CBP demonstrated the usual incompetence of any large authoratarian organization gathering data on everyone when they were deeply hacked and had millions of records stolen earlier this year.

The best way to protect yourself is with a full opsec inventory and plan. I'm not remotely as hardened as I used to be, but here's a decent starting place for ideas. Keep in mind, we're talking about nation states and they effectively have unlimited resources, so if they really want to know everything about you, they will most likely find it in time.

Cancelations are unavoidable. They’ll always happen. Even No Shows. You can take every precaution imaginable and still have it happen. I’d suggest you just brush it off, wish them well and move on. If they canceled for a real reason, being sweet to them will only pay off positively for you in the future.

A very good client of mine cancelled when I traveled to his city for his birthday. I arranged other appointments in addition to him but we both know that this particular city isn’t a great market for me. He had real excuses and felt terrible. He actually still paid me in full, despite my telling him not to.

That's exactly my point. In Phoenix, outside of rush hour, 20 - 25 minutes gets you 10 - 30 miles from your starting point. By comparison, in Chicago, that might get you two miles in the city, and five in one of the collar counties. `

Agree with most everyone here. “Where are you hosting” is a perfectly legitimate question for reasons stated, especially in bigger metroplexes.
Also, most chains will let you book and cancel up to 24 hours in advance in case you just need to say you’re staying somewhere, but I know you know this.

On the issue of confirmations, I’ll say I’m almost neurotic at this point about confirmations. I will confirm the week of, and then again the day of. If they don’t respond, I assume it’s not happening and don’t stress about it. And I don’t travel to a city unless I have 3 confirmed appointments.

I know some guys, like jake Jennings will send a text that says “CONFIRMED” with all the information like time, hotel, and rate.

But I suppose the moral is to not assume that that our interests are always aligned to client interests and to not assume anything.

Here in Phoenix I don't usually ask in advance where a guy is staying because it is pretty easy to get around and the area isn't that big. When I lived in Chicago I did want to know in advance where a guy intended to stay because the metro area is huge and, frankly, I was not going to truck down to Orland Park ( a very nice community) from my place in Evanston, which is at the opposite end of the metro area.

Everyone knows the likely cause of Jules's tragic passing from this earthly realm (Godspeed to this wonderful young man in the next), that goes without saying. We know the probabilities; we aren't stupid. That still doesn't make crass speculation and disinformation before his body is even cold any less vulgar and inappropriate, when sincere condolences and expression of shock/remorse are all that's needed until details flow in to confirm suspicions.

But this is Trump's America for the time being. Crass, tacky vulgarity, and total lack of respect, decency, and manners (under the lame and lazy cover of political incorrectness) is the going thing at the moment.

Just a word on why young people die. We don't routinely screen kids for heart conditions. I have two friends who lost young adult sons from sudden heart attacks, one at the age of 19 while playing tennis, the other at the age of 21 at the dinner table. Both had congenital heart defects. Another rapid killer of people at any age is sepsis, which manifests as severe cold or flu symptoms that often are just not diagnosed as infection until its too late. You can be gone in 2 to 3 days from that. Meningitis moves very fast too.

So agree, we shouldn't jump to conclusions about this young man's sudden death.

I do know that some guys have those multiple dates down and do actually intend to go to all of those locations but gauge interest to see how long they should spend in each city as part of the trip. https://rent.men/MikeGaite does this and when I met with him I asked him about it and he said that is exactly what he does. When I contacted him earlier in the year, Denver was listed just like all the cities he has listed now. And he very specifically told me when the days he was planning to be in Denver and sure enough we met during that time. With the high costs of hotels and airplane tickets, it only makes sense that some escorts would try to figure out the interest in the city to figure out how many days they should stay.

I would recommend contacting the guy if you're interested because he likely does intend to go to your city and having more interest will encourage him to stay longer.

This is not true everywhere. These laws cover only about half of the U.S. as you described it.

There are 33 states that have laws that criminalize having sex while HIV positive (or in some cases with any STI) without disclosing that fact. However, around 8 of those states have an exception written in where the law does not apply if you take reasonable precautions (e.g., if you use a condom). I believe that is also the case in the U.K.

(There are some other U.S. states, like Texas, that have no such laws but have been known to charge people anyway under more general criminal statues, like assault or reckless endangerment. Thankfully, this is not true everywhere.)

    ---

Now, since you seem to genuinely believe that having sex with people who know they are HIV positive is the real problem, let's look at some simple logic.

1a. Some people know they have HIV.
1b. Some people don't have HIV.
1c. There is a third group that assumes they don't have it, but in fact, does have it.

2a. People who know they have HIV are likely to be receiving treatment for it.
2b. That third group, however, is extremely unlikely to be receiving treatment for it (since they don't think they have it).

3a. Viral load zero is common these days when HIV is treated. The chance of transmission with viral load zero is close to zero, and that's on top of the reduction from any other precautions you take.
3b. The chance of transmission with nonzero viral load is obviously higher. The third group is far more likely to have significant viral load than the first group, since there is no treatment taking place that would lower viral load.

    4. Ergo, the chance you pick up HIV from sex with someone who knows they have HIV (whether they publicize that fact or not) is quite probably lower than the chance you pick it up from having sex with someone who doesn't think they have HIV, since there is a chance they are in the third group.
