It has nothing to do with my lack of compassion for the plight of masseurs, who by the way -- at an average of about $160 an hour in NYC -- do pretty well for themselves generally as compared to the millions of people suddenly out of work who make far far less money. This is about the shared social health responsibility for all of us during this insane crisis. And anyone who isn't doing their part to keep this from getting horribly out of control is just being careless and selfish. Moreover, it's hard to argue with the fact that the physical intimacy and proximity of massage is on the high end of the risk spectrum and far from an essential service.

The notice on MasseurFinder should be on their home page and the site should be disabled for the time being. They play a role here too; not just the masseurs themselves. It's frankly appalling. As for all of those masseurs who have still been advertising AVAILABLE NOW, yes I know you are hurting financially, but this is not about YOU right now. When this is over, I will remember those few who acted responsibly and suspended work and give them my business.

not to mention the fact that they ARE NOT testing symptom free individuals anywhere unless someone has had direct exposure to someone with COVID.

?‍♂️While I am strongly against quickly or overly shaming...here are some facts.

Unless you have not been out in public at all, not even to the grocery store, bank, etc, for 2-3 weeks, you could very well have the virus. Are the odds of that being the case and spreading it less than if you were displaying infectious type symptoms? Probably.
Your masseur would also have to have been not out on public for 2-3 weeks, not even the grocery store or anywhere, to help ensure they would be most likely virus free. Your risks are your risks, however.
Just be aware of your constant potential to get sick, and or spread the virus to others. Certain conditions can lessen those odds, but unless you make your home a sanitized bubble and stay isolated inside, those odds will never be zero.

I wish that we would see some providers messaging (in their ads and perhaps on these boards) that they are not accepting appointments due to the health crisis, say until their monthly ads expire. For me, it would show clients that they are aware, and are concerned.

The masseurs who continue to advertise; the clients who continue to book sessions; and the sites that continue to post ads are all acting incredibly selfishly, irresponsibly contributing to the possible expansion of infection. I completely get the hardship for masseurs, but it's no different than for tens of millions of Americans....the waiter, the bartender, the actor, the hair stylist, the hotel maid, and on and on. I personally could use a massage right now more than anytime in my life, and I don't even have much of a fear of getting infected from one, but THAT is not the point. The point is that we all have a role to play in slowing this down for the sake of others, for the sake of our health care system, which in many places is days away from catastrophe. Licensed massage therapists in most states have been ordered to stop indefinitely, and our community should be doing the same. If we're lucky - and I believe we will be - in 3-4 weeks we will start to see things improve, and then hopefully we can begin to resume life, and get our massages.

Indeed good character should be rewarded. In NYC there are over 60 guys advertising as “Available Now” right now. Disappointingly some that I see now and then. They won’t be rewarded now or in the future.

Quite a few guys on RM have posted that they are pausing massages for the foreseeable future. Yesterday I spent some time reading through some blogs. A couple of them are even a little heartbreaking. I applaud them, especially the guys who only have massage as their sole source of income. I can't help but think I'm more likely to book with one of these guys in the future once things get back to normal, especially if it comes to booking someone regularly. Good character goes a long way in my book.

masseur goes to crowded supermarket; masseur becomes infected without knowing it; masseur sees 10 clients in the following week while he is asymptomatic; masseur infects half or more of those clients, who each for a period of days before (or if) getting symptoms infects another 5 people...... or the reverse, the asymptomatic client makes an appointment with masseur, infecting him; masseur then passes it on unknowingly to half or more of his clients during the following week. This is a shared responsibility between clients and masseurs and the web sites that promote it. ALL NEED TO STOP NOW.

I'm a provider here in LA.
I stopped seeing clients 8 days ago. It's difficult, but it's not worth the risk in my book.
I've seen fellow masseurs that continue to make themselves available online. However it seems to me like that number is slowly decreasing. I am more surprised by the increase in calls I'm getting from non regulars seeking bodywork.
This leads me to believe that their regular providers are possibly not seeing clients at this time, so they are calling around.

Remember. It takes two to tango.
"Shameful" behavior has always existed. But old habits die hard.

Many people are struggling with thoughts of having no income. If lack of money is haunting people right now, they may not have the self-control needed to say no to customers. This is not the time to choose money over health. Meeting with strangers and performing close contact service is extremely dangerous to both parties. One simple look at how hospital workers are dressing to protect themselves, those who have proper supplies, should convince everyone that avoiding infection is the only way out of this mess.

Not everyone will pay attention. Those who don't take heed risk paying a higher price, and their decisions may affect us all.

It is both extremely risky - and highly irresponsible - to be giving or getting massages presently. We have a societal obligation to refrain until the rate of new infections has dropped to very low levels, or even zero. That is the harsh reality of our present world.

This level of enforced separation might be longer than a couple of weeks, but if it's 18 months frankly we'll all have bigger problems. I "prepaid" just one so getting it or not isn't going to break me.

I don't want to get infected but what's more important is I don't want to get infected AND spread this virus around unknowingly during the asymptomatic stages. If you can get it by sheer proximity and the possibility of inhaling or getting infected saliva on you just in public, imagine the risk you take being naked for an hour with a masseur, moreso if any oral or kissing activities take place (Especially since the masseur himself takes that risk by dealing with how many clients he may have). Right now we have the responsibility to other people, not just for our own wellbeing, to stop this disease from spreading.
