As a client, I feel the same in practical terms. We pay for time. Over the years, Ive had guys ask for a few minutes to make a call, use the bathroom, shower as they just finished a workout, finish something on their laptop, etc. So, to be a little more precise... its when the rentguy's ready to spend time with me - whether we're sitting and talking, or.......
 
If Im hosting, I always offer use of my shower after.
 
With a few exceptions, clock-watching has rarely been an issue in my experiences. Most guys spend a bit more than the alotted time when all is said and done. And Ive had guys choose to spend alot more time just hanging out, going for a meal, etc.

As did I. I have an MS in Occupational Therapy. I worked clinically for almost 15 years. I worked directly with patients and in upper management, all over the US, and in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabs, neuro units, NICUs, mental health facilities. I specialized in cognition and mental health, and spent years training other therapist to sharpen those skills. I left over 2 years ago, and I feel more successful, more fulfilled, more happy than I ever did before. I use many of the same skills that I developed as a therapist and I'm grateful for my training and time, but this feels like a much better fit for my interests and the way I want my life to go.
 
Regarding the OP's question - I find that when someone asks a question, they are really telling you something about what they believe and understand. On some level, some people might think that escorting/porn, etc are fields where you don't to be smart and/or smart people do not do this work. There isn't a reason to get offended. Be smart, and have a conversation.

Many years ago when I was living in San Diego I was seeing an escort that went by Corey. (I've mentioned him here before. Great guy.) At the airport I accidentally called him by that name instead of Corey. He stopped dead, looked me in the eye, and said, "No one calls me that." Message received and understood.
 
Since then I've been very cautious. Real names invariably come out when you have a regular situation. All these years later, I still stop and ask very specifically what name he is most comfortable with me using. Extending him that courtesy has always resulted in, "Either name is fine" or "My real name is cool." With the notable exception of Corey that is. I never called him by his real name again!

Most of the good escorts I’ve talked to (which is a partial sample of those I’ve hired) wandered into the trade because they like sex, they’re good at it, they like people and they like the validation they receive from providing pleasure. Now the degree to which each of those factors motivates may vary but the mix seems the same.
 
I’ve met doctors who preferred teaching and a Harvard Law grad who hated the biz and became gifted psychologist. And then there are the bankers . . . I know of a client who engaged a prominent escort now retired who realized after a time that the escort had been a banker with whom he had dealt but only over the phone.

Those are just the ones I know about. I don't habitually talk with an escort about what he did before he started escorting

Maybe you're running with the wrong crowd. Without even trying I can think of one escort who was a practicing attorney, another who was a healthcare professional with an advanced degree and another who was a c-level executive in Silicon Valley.

There are probably almost as many answers to this as there are escorts...

Most of the escorts I have met are well-educated, smart, and confident. Some had corporate careers which they gave up in order to be full-time sex workers. All of this just makes them even more attractive to me. Knowing that they have chosen this work when they had other options gives me a woody.

Note though that the question described at the start of this thread is not “tell me about yourself..” or “what do like about being an escort?” It was, “why do you do this? YOU’RE WELL EDUCATED AND SMART, WHY DO YOU ESCORT? WHY?” I can see why that wording would not be received positively by an escort.

I once asked that question to an escort who was smoking hot, a great kisser, well hung and sucked, rimmed and fucked like a porn star. He was also married to a female, had two young daughters and was a Marine who had just returned from a tour in Afghanistan. He admitted he was totally closeted and fulfilled his desire to be with men by escorting. He said all his friends were either jocks or military and he had no one in his life to confide in. After we were through, had dressed and I paid him, he asked if he could hang out with me for a while and talk. We talked for an hour, three beers apiece, and then he left. Very sweet guy, unlike any escort I've ever been with, before or since.

Since I got my law degree I get more negative reactions to my intention to practice law than my sideline as an escort.

I admire Victor's self confidence, but I think the question is incredibly rude and I'd never ask it. I'm a lawyer who's had an ethical career in which I helped a lot of people, but I wouldn't want to hear a client ask, "Why are you a lawyer? They're all blood sucking liars. Why?"

For that exact reason, I pay no attention to the term. I have no expectations of anything specific when I read that someone offers BFE.
 
I will ask about specifics. And, if I become a repeat customer, seeking lengthier appointments, I may specify an interest in additional behaviors - some things some people consider BFE behaviors.
