For the longest time, Southwest, a low cost carrier, exclusively flew in and out of MDW. However, they recently began to schedule flights (from/to, I don’t know) in and out of ORD. Sounds like they want to take on the big boys United and American.

Doesn’t get you out of jury duty here (either Cook county, or all of Illinois, don’t know for sure). They also use driver’s licenses, and state IDs. We have one day, or one trial. My friend got called, and it was to sit on a Grand Jury for a month at 26th and California (Chicago people will know about that). He couldn’t believe the crimes that happen. Another friend was on a murder trial. They found him guilty. Last time I was called, it was 26th and Cal. too. My number got called. They herded us to the hallway just outside the court room. We had to wait almost a half hour. When they finally opened the door for us to enter, there was bullet proof glass separating the judge, attorneys, and jury seats from the rest of the court room where we waited once we entered. Then they had us enter pass the glass, and the judge thanked us, but the case had settled, and we were released. Whew!

Very true. Spent five days once in mid January on Miami Beach Royal palm, and flew F class, all on points and miles. Next goal is Grand Wailea in Maui. thinking of staying at Four Seasons one more time, and put bill on Hilton Amx to use points at Grand Wailea later.

No clue about Canada, but TracFone allows you to buy international minutes. I bought my first one at BestBuy. Other big box retailers besides Walmart seem to sell them. Also check out smaller retailers such as Walgreens, and i’ve heard even convenience stores like 7-11 sell them.

I guess I got in under the wire. Costco premium in local Chicago NW burb on Tuesday afternoon was $3.49, and no line, just drove right up to the pump. It helps it has three pumps each line.

Beautiful homes in that area. My parents lived near there before they moved out to the west side. I remember when they got together with their friends they would talk about my father speeding down Woodrow Wilson. When I was a kid he‘d take me with him to buy smoked fish at the Dexter-Davison market. I would wait in the car while he went in.

TV stations were either UHF, or VHF. Networks were on UHF. 2 was CBS, 4 (in Detroit) was NBC (not 5 like most cities), and 7 was ABC. We also got 9, the Canadian station. 9 had the afternoon dance show for teens (think American Bandstand, or the movie Hairspray) called “Swingin‘ Time”. Many high caliber performers, still revered today. VHF were the local stations. 50, 56 (public TV), and 62.

Over the latter few years before COVID, just about all the SPG, Marriott, Four Seasons, and Ritz Carltons I stayed at. Once, shortly after checking in, it still displayed the name of whom I presume was the previous guest. I should have quickly ordered a couple bottles of wine from room service, and just scribbled a signature. Hehehe

Our building has a directory where you click until the name comes up, and there is a code to dial unrelated to the condo number. You may want to ask the association if they can program the directory to display a pseudonym, for privacy, and security concerns. My friends know the code. If they won’t accommodate your request, just have him text you, and as was suggested, meet him downstairs, and/or if there is a security camera, and you see him approaching, just go down there, depending on how close you are to the door.

Cars have come a long way. I remember: 3 on the tree. (a 3 speed manual transmission with the gear shift lever on the steering column). GM automatic transmissions with R (reverse) in the last position after L, not the 2nd position after P (park). Push button transmissions with buttons on the dashboard of Chrysler cars, and the center of the steering wheel on Edsels before they’ve made a reappearance in the last few years. Rear view mirrors mounted on the dashboard of Chrysler cars. Cigarette lighters and multiple ashtrays in every car. Manual chokes on the dashboard, and having to let the car warm up In winter. Drum breaks that you had to apply after going through water so they would work when you needed them. ”shagging” cars in the winter, where you grabbed onto the bumper, crouched down so the driver didn’t see you in his mirror, and let the car take you down the snowy side street. Easy way to get home after school if wearing street shoes, not boots.

Another package was mis-delivered to our building last week by Amazon. It was in a padded “Prime” envelope. Doesn’t happen frequently, but often enough to notice. It’s always addressed to another condo building two blocks away that has the same number, but different street name. Same thing occasionally happens at one of the other buildings in our development that has the same number of a new apartment building just built on a different street on the other side of our block. It will get worse with the new building across the other street, that was given the same number of a third building on the other side of us. Basically, within two blocks, there are six buildings where two buildings each have the same street number. Taped a note to the package to advise Amazon. Still sits here. Called Amazon to request them to pick it up, was told they don’t do that. Asked them what we were supposed to do with it, they told me just discard it. Asked a delivery guy if he could take it to the correct address, he said they‘re not allowed to do that. So when you get an email that your Amazon package was delivered, but it’s not there, don’t assume it was stolen.

Missed it, so went back to daily home delivery of the local suburban paper. It’s a lot thinner these days, and it came with digital edition so I get four or five emails a day. I just delete those. It‘s my quiet time to sit and read it. If I don’t get to it, then I read two days the next day.

When everyone burned their trash, either in a small pile, or in a metal cage in the alley, or in a small incinerator in the basement.

Huge piles (to us kids) of leaves that were raked into to street, and jumping into the pile. Then later the smell of the burning leaves. A smell that defined fall, like Hyacinth blooming in the spring, cut grass in the summer, and fresh cut Christmas trees in December.

Me too. Started going in the 80’s. It’s grown a lot. Began staying in Kihei, with a few stays in KaanapalI, got tired of the crowds, and the drive from and to the airport. Only so many times you can walk down Front St. in Lahaina, so stuck with Kihei near Kam 1/Charley Young beach, and the last six times, stayed in Wailea. Miss it, haven’t been there since maybe 2017. I actually looked at the website for Kalama Heights Senior Apartments the other night. I mentioned to a provider I had been to Maui a lot, and he said he would love it if a client took him there. Do you think he was hinting?
