"Gay clubs" in many places around the world are not exclusive to gay men. Women like to go and dance without getting hit on. My understanding is that even in the US prior to the AIDS epidemic many gay clubs were places where it was ok for same-sex dancing but it didn't mean that everyone was gay.

Most gay men weren't child molesters but many were.
