That makes perfect sense, @PhileasFogg. Aside from the bare financial analysis, there's an intangible value in having a place that you can use in a city (or area) you like to visit. It brings some certainty by being available. Of course, that only works if you can manage the finances comfortably, if it's even close, the accounting reality soon intervenes. I have my old family home, two hours from Canberra, and I like having it to go to for breaks, or just to be there for a while. But I do keep reassessing it from both a practicality and a financial point of view.

The graphic is not funny. What is funny is that half the social media comments were about how wrong it was. Luxembourg has more people than greater London? Malta? Iceland? Really? The coup de grâce was that the other half of the comments were that it should be fewer, not less.

Yes, he is, and @Vegas_Millennial made that distinction up-thread. To add to the international travel tangent, as well as the US reporting rules, you should check if any international destination has similar reporting rules. As an example, Australia also has a $10k reporting requirement, and that's just under $US7k. In both cases it's perfectly legal to carry more than the reporting limit, but at least in Australia's case if it's not reported the money may be subject to confiscation.

Same, not out of some aversion to waste, but just because it makes sense. I have a plunger (translation: French press) that makes 3-4 mugs, it's stainless steel so keeps the coffee warmish, but after the second cup I need to nuke it a bit. If there's any left, say the next day, then I nuke it. Freshly made tastes better, but I enjoy that just as much if it's the third cup after two nuked ones, or the first of the day. But if I'm out, and buying coffee, it's a flat white.

I made this yesterday, couldn't get the pasta it called for and used risoni instead. I didn't have any parmesan rind. It's really good, comfort food good rather than exciting good. I had some for lunch. The soup ended up being think, spoon-stands-up-in-the-saucepan thick, so I added some more stock, four 750ml tubs in my freezer.

Imperial vs metric is in user settings, not hard coded in one version of the site or another (although the default may be in one measurement system if you log into a different version of the site where you haven't set up measurement units).
