I'm a leech on this thread as I don't prepare any side-dishes, but I sure have consumed them (sweet potatoes, cornbread, gravy, lima beans, creamed onions...somebody stop me!) . These days I make conscious efforts to dilute my ire because I really feel the toll of the stresses, but it ain't easy. Our government feels justified in squandering millions for troop movements, fortification materials, and containment housing in preparation for a bogus invasion, but for its citizen victims of the apocalyptic California fires, not so much. I have never had to evacuate my home. I try to not think about having to endure that horror under any circumstances.

This present response methodology has to be reworked. The magnitude of the loss of life and property from these all-too-frequent massive fires is apocalyptic. I don't know how financially/logistically prohibitive it might be, but I'm thinking a fleet of civilian and military tanker planes that could/would be dispatched at the very beginnings of such blazes rather than after they are well underway. Within the maze of local/state/federal government bodies there must be a collective wisdom up to the task of dealing with this hellish recurring scenario.
