The reviews are stored inside of a mySQL database. And yes, there are still reviews being submitted... I see several that all have submit dates in the last 2 months. So the good news is it's not all piled up into an email folder somewhere. I also found the Admin area for the reviews. I don't have a good way of accessing it because the password is encrypted in the database. I'm going to have to try to figure out what hashing algorithm is used so that I can create an account for myself.

So I've been able to make a few changes to support any of the old direct URLs. If someone had a bookmark to a specific URL such as: https://www.daddysreviews.com/cruise/newest/dominus_oakland It will be automatically kicked to the new URL automatically https://archive.m4m-forum.org/cruise/newest/dominus_oakland This redirect only works as long as Daddy's server is online until we manage to get control of DNS which is something Team Washington is working on.

I don’t know yet. That’s actually a good question. I’ll look at the code tomorrow to see what happens when a review is submitted. If the results are stored in a database, I’ll have access to the data. If it is just a form that collects all of the fields and emails it somewhere, at minimum I’ll know where they’re being sent.

As I've said previously, out of an abundance of caution, I've backed up most of the content on Daddy's server. The first priority was getting the forum itself back online which has been done. I've gotten to the point where I've been able to tackle restoring the review site. This was MUCH more difficult as there was a bunch of things coded specifically for Daddy's server. I managed to get the data copied over and to import the mySQL database associated with the site. Once I did that, nothing really worked so I had to go look into the code to see what was going on. This involved changing a bunch of files to reflect where files are located on the new server. It's not perfectly restored (meaning some of the commentary and news links are not fully working), but all of the reviews seem to be working. It is simply too much to try to manually do. So the plan for now is for the archive to stay as-is for historical purposes. At a later time, I plan to introduce a new review site that would collect the info and allow for a more streamlined method of management. Once it's ready, we'll need some volunteers to help us manually migrate reviews over into the new long-term tool. Once we're ready to do that, I'll post here asking for some help with all of the copy/pasting that is going to be involved. Hopefully in the next half hour or so, I'll be able to have the main review website redirect to the archive. It's not perfect, but I hope it helps us preserve a vital part of our history.

I have updated "Verbose" to be a sleeping icon and "Applause" to be the requested one. Given that I just made the change, it might take a little bit for your computer's temporary internet files to update to the new version.

I’m personally very interested in recovering it. It’s what drove the most interest to this forum. It’s part of our history/heritage and I think if I can set it up right, it will be as much work to maintain as moderating an individual forum.

The site data has been copied over but unless I buy another domain and forward it, there is not a way to bring it online until we get control of DNS. Team Washington is in Vegas working on that and a few other things this week.

As a side note, per my post in the tech forum, a cry reaction is no longer a negative reaction. It’s considered neutral as of about 5 minutes ago.

When I migrated the forum, all reactions were showing up as a question mark "?". I had to manually re-associate them with no idea what they were before. I can edit any of the ones that are there or create new ones if they make sense.

I don't know why it's associated as a negative reaction... that's how it was by default. If the community agrees, I can change it to a neutral reaction. (I don't know if it should be considered a "positive" reaction, so neutral would be a decent compromise.)

There are no such thing as stupid questions! This is actually a good question because the answer might not be as obvious as someone might think it would be. When you visit the website and click around, each time the server processes something for you it's seen as a request. I've changed the stats to not report each individual file/click as a request, instead it is counting just the unique person instead. If it counted each object you requested, it would make the country stats skewed if one person clicked more links.

What surprised me the most was the percentage of traffic to the site that was done via mobile devices. More than 50% of the site's traffic comes from users browsing from their phone. I don't typically see that high of a percentage across many of the site I help manage. It looks like a majority of the users to this site are using iPhones or Macs... which is somewhat higher than what I generally see as well.

It’s not that we’re spinning our wheels in that were being indecisive. Our challenge is how much we can do on our own right now. While we have managed to preserve the forum, we don’t “technically” have a claim to it. While it’s unlikely that someone who could actually have a legal claim would make that stake, it could happen. As a result, we’re trying to be cautious in what we do to not rock the boat. Cooper and I had a call earlier today talking about “what could be”. There are a lot of things we would like to see happen. This includes adding more people to help serve as admin/moderators, adding new features and capabilities, etc. I would encourage people to think about the “future” in phases. The first thing that needs to happen is to stabilize operations. That includes getting this site off of my personal server into one operated solely for this community. That’s the first step in ensuring if God forbid I’m hit by a bus tomorrow we don’t relive this situation again. It also includes getting control of critical services needed for the site’s operations and getting it documented with a few key trusted people having access to it. Once we can do that, we can think about who and how the site will be operated. For now it looks like Cooper will take lead in administration of the site (approving members, responding to reports etc). He is going to need a lot of help so we will be tapping people to help initially in individual forums and then potentially wider as a super moderator. I’ll continue to help maintain the “background” stuff such as patching, security, and keeping the lights on. I personally see a future where it’s not a single owner, but also at the same time not necessarily a full committee. Instead most likely I foresee a future somewhere in the middle. I see having a small team of 3 or so people to handle administration with another 6-12 moderators helping keep the house clean and following the rules. Each community leader would have an area they have primary responsibility for, but is able to step in to assist as needed elsewhere. Basically taking the single role managed by Daddy solely and splitting it into multiple parts. The goal would be that it is less work for everyone and also reduces the risk of a loss of a single key person. I realize there is a lot of unanswered questions right now and I don’t know the answers to everything myself. With that said, you have my commitment that I’ll do everything in my power to get us to the other side.

I have an idea about how to handle the review site later once we have control of DNS. Ideally it would be as easy to administer/moderate as the forums are. If done right, reviews simply are hidden until accepted by a moderator. It would automatically update all of the various links on the site and be searchable, etc. The biggest undertaking will be moving the old reviews into the new system. If I can’t figure out a way to automate it, I’ll solicit assistance in some copy/paste help from the forum.

The tech side won’t be too hard to maintain long term. I don’t mind helping on that front as it’s not a lot of effort required once things are stable. I think the bigger thing is thinking through succession planning. How do you document everything, and have details on what tools are used, where those tools are, passwords etc and have it stored in a way that does not compromise security? For example I could put all of the info in a safety deposit box, and list a few folks as authorized to access it. It could be stored in an escrow account. I could put the details in the server itself. It could just be given to a few trusted people with the hope they never abuse the contents of that file. There are MANY ways of doing this, but what is the BEST way is what still needs to be determined. (Again, it would be 100 percent the keys to the kingdom.) My goal is to think through how to make the community as self-sustaining from a physical access process as possible, but also not opening the community to unnecessary risk.

Works for me. Let's coordinate with Orin and Cooper, etc. That way there is a consensus. In a day or so when things settle down, I'll be able to pull together a list of estimated costs anticipated with running the site. This includes keeping the Xenforo license updated, hosting, DNS, extra security stuff (since I do cyber security for a living), etc.

My personal server (and now this site) is also in Atlanta. So apparently it was not a far move! However once things settle down, I'll be setting up a separate one just for everything related to Daddy's. That way it's only me helping administer it going forward and not me owning it.
