  1. I want to like Madonna. I really do. I feel oddly indebted to her for all the support she's given the community over the years. But... She's just so fucking joyless. Her shows are packed to the hilt with beat-you-over-the-head social messages, but i f she'd stop trying so hard for just a second, she might actually allow her audience to have some fun. I hope she can/does. It's why my pop princess of choice has always been Kylie Minogue. She's genuinely kind, doesn't take things too seriously, leans into the camp factor and puts on a superb production.
  2. Never skip legs day 👍✌️🔥
  3. What started at The Public 10 years ago is now a full-fledged Broadway musical, directed by Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge) with an incredibly talented cast. This show tells the story of Imelda Marcos, the evolving political landscape of the Philippines from 1970-1995 and what ultimately became the Marcos regime. With shades of Evita, this show goes even further to not canonize the lead characters and give a heartbreaking, honest accounting of history. The whole show is set in a '70s disco. Fully immersive. The entire orchestra section has had the seating removed and is a full-on dance floor in which the standing audience members also move with the changing set around them. It's bright, loud and engaging. The music is catchy (David Byrne/Fatboy Slim) and the vocals are fantastic. If you don't want to stand, there are several other seating options available. This is currently in previews, but will be THE show to see when it opens. If you can, see this production.
  4. Saw this the other night and if you're a fan of his style, it's one of his best films yet. Highly recommended. A ton of A-listers make appearances. The script moves quick, quirky and is very funny. Production design is the closest thing to live animation I've ever seen. Very stylized, but fun. If you were a fan of his Grand Budapest Hotel, this takes that level of quirk and amps it up even further.
  5. Little known fact: If you own GRND stock, they put a little flashing gold square around your grid profile photo.
  6. You keep your 'oh, fuck' face on the inside, look at your watch and immediately say you had an important meeting you forgot about. Then you exit, stage right.
  7. I also own a Toto Washlet, but the real key to digestive health is positioning while on the pot. The Squatty Potty is the real deal. It also doesn't help that people usually take their phone onto the toilet, hunching over while trying to get things accomplished. No bueno.
  8. I've known people who have worked for not only Wintour, but bigwigs in publishing and television news media. It's a fucking slog, but they made it through and ended up with solid recommendations and even better careers. You do what you gotta do.... People who are successful rarely end up that way with manicured, clean hands.
  9. I don't see Murray Hill taking the crown away from Flushing anytime soon, but good on them for the addition. When it comes to food, more choice is always better Korean is possibly my favorite type of food and being in Queens, you're never too far from authentic, delicious choices.
  10. First? Queens has had smoke/cannabis shops and delivery services since late 2021.
  11. It means less than it used to. A lot less. Don't expect your embassy to bail you out. Don't expect Americuh to come running to save you from your own stupid decisions. When in Rome, you might not always do exactly as Romans do, but at least have enough respect to recognize culture and custom.
  12. I saw this a couple of days ago and would agree. It's a trainwreck. I don't want to see more of this rushed-to-concept show on Broadway. The one saving grace is Jennifer Simard who belts out Toxic. It's a genuinely thrilling number thanks to her voice.
  13. One hundred fucking percent this. Couldn't have said it any better myself. This IS a career if you do it right. A career that can be more rewarding than many 'professional' jobs out there. The op has this strange view that this isn't real life for many of us who have made it a very real, very successful choice of living.
  14. No. That would never happen. This is NYC. I was just at JFK yesterday. Rideshare is alive and well. That said, I'd avoid the shlep and book a car into the city. Dial-6 and MinuteMan have always been affordable, comfortable alternatives to Uber for me.
  15. It's when Y is oversold and they need seats, so they roll Y to J and J to F and that opens up spots where ops needs them. It happens more frequently than people know and if you're a smart flyer, you target the routes where it's happening routinely. And then there's the elusive, unicorn-like op-up. Otherwise known as the 'operational upgrade.' Happens far less, but it's still out there.
  16. Enjoy the 3-class while you can. It's going away permanently when AA starts to retrofit their new J-class product in 2024. Flagship First is an aged, just-okay F product (for America). I wouldn't pay for it. Only on cabin-roll, mileage or SWU
  17. Or, have book the trip on the right credit card, which provides the insurance as part of the service.
  18. Have you read some of the things posted on this board? It feels like guys in their 50s are elderly.
  19. GTFO. It's six-time TONY award winner Audra McDonald. She's a fucking national treasure and sang the living shit out of it. If a black actress in an ancillary role in a silly musical bothers you this much, perhaps you need to look at yourself versus the casting agents.
  20. This isn't the 1960s and won't ever be again. We have to live in the here and now. Adapting to the ins and outs of new systems is a part of human existence.
  21. I mean, historically D0 rates have very little to do with the actual pax experience and ultimate customer retention. Operations focuses far too hard on them, leaving many pax to misconnect. The days of (briefly) holding flights for connecting pax is long gone.
  22. First... I'm sorry you're dealing with this. AA ops are taking it in the chops lately, a lot of it due to MX delays brought on by pilot union negotiations, FA morale at an all-time low, odd weather systems at their hubs and a carrier who hasn't quite yet figured out who and what they want to be, so they follow the lead of DL and UA, usually in half-assed fashion. I say this having very high status with American. I'm nothing if not bluntly honest, even with a product I use weekly. That said, learn from this. If it happens again, immediately turn on your phone while waiting on the tarmac and call AA reservations to protect yourself on the next flight. Don't wait until it's too late. Pax have to now be proactive and realize that the airline will no longer bend over backwards to accommodate them. It's ugly, but it's the truth.
  23. While you're not going to find any massive gay clubs/bars or a pride event, if you're staying at a good hotel in Doha, Cairo, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, etc, you won't need to explain nor request two beds for two men together. As others here have wisely said, just cut any public affection and you'll be fine. I've traveled as a couple all over Africa and through the Middle East. Have never had one single issue. I would advise to read up on what RX you cannot bring in, even in-bottle and with a US script. They don't fuck around on that. It's very black-and-white. Great choice on flying QR. They are where I tend to blow my personal miles when I want a consistent, quality J-class experience.
  24. I wouldn't call all of these 'generated,' more that a few of these guys got the Lucille Ball-Mame-Vaseline camera treatment. These days, there's a fine line between a natural, skilled edit and mass blurring until all facial features look like a matte blob of flesh toned Play-Doh. I have no problem with guys wanting a sharper jawline or tweaked nose, but damn, get the surgery/filler done first so you show up actually looking like that person.
