No, clients don't need to understand how RM advertising works.  Thats not their expertise and its unreasonable to expect that.  
All professionals, whether they are plumbers, lawyers, bankers or anything else, have to do business development.  It sucks that BD is unpaid, because sometimes it can be more time consuming than actual engagements, and not every BD effort will turn into a paid engagement, but that is true across the board.
I don't know nor care how plumbers advertise, so I should not need to know nor care how you advertise.  

A high-ranking non-profit arts administrator once shared with me a bit of box-office wisdom she'd been given by a major Broadway producer:
"If they really want to not see the show you're presenting, you can't stop them."

I personally don’t find on demand paid sex interesting. I’ve only done it twice and both times were unsatisfactory to me even though both guys were exactly my physical type. A massage gets us to the same room together generally unclothed, so the big logistics hurdles are over. Then if two consenting adults want to go for it, it’s more exciting than an explicit sex transaction, at least for me. 
 
If a masseur who has not committed to sex decides he actually wants to have sex with me, that’s a lot more fun in my book.

This market works like any others. I had a former regular complain how Venezuelan refugees were undercutting him. When he raised his rates, I switched to said Venezuelans and found a eager, humble, and lower priced group.
Markets don't care about what you think you're worth, or even what you need. My salary hasn't kept up with inflation, because the firm knows it's a low hire low fire market. That needs to get passed down to my discretionary spending.

If the question about too much trouble is posed to escorts, the answer must be no, because new escorts continue to advertise, book, and re-up their ads, and develop regulars. 
If the same is posed to clients, the answer is also no, because clients commenting here keep patronizing the providers. Once they are purely hooking up with other non-pros online, this forum goes away. It hasn't. 👏
If "is it too much trouble?" is posed by the questioner to his reflection in the mirror, well... most of his posts indicate that it absolutely is. 

And why.the need to keep "proving" your success by quoting payments received. Its fine. Some people will jump through your hoops (hours, notice, deposits, etc.) It doesn't mean the majority of us will. If it works for you, and youre happy, congratulations. But that's not the image projected here.
