I was lucky enough to see Ella Fitzgerald perform relatively often, beginning when she appeared at a local summer theater for one night around 1963. I was in college then. Her live recordings are superb, especially "Ella in Berlin," when Ella forgot the words to "Mac The Knife," and made up lyrics on the spot.

It's not at all. And sometimes you have no choice. But, I have both avoided danger and embraced it. Always playing it safe doesn't lead to much growth as a person. I am not talking about helicopters, because I enjoyed enjoyed the experiences.

Years ago Lena Horne recorded two superb live albums: Lena at the Sands, especially. Lincoln Center in New York honored Lena on her 80 th birthday. She watched from the audience. Lena walked on stage at the end, and sang a relatively unknown song from one of her concert album. Thrilling.

I enjoyed a Christmas in Germany near a small town close to the French border.Festive bars also serving excellent local food. Cold, but no snow!! 1972: Christmas bombing of Hanoi by Nixon also the death of Pres. Truman Sad news. LBJ died soon after when I was in Spain.

Perhaps July is better month to fly to Munich. Beer is just as welcome in the summer. And the English Gardens its best in July for nude swimming and cruising.
