  1. Is The Wall Street journal still using a pay wall. If so, one has to have a subscription to the Journal to read that article? I might try to cut and paste it, but not a subscriber.
  2. Yes, my mother was placed in a nursing home in Massachusetts by the local hospital. I waited a few days before calling her. Sorry to hear she was placed in a room with two patients with Alzheimer's. Without my knowledge my aunt and first cousin visited that day. My cousin called to tell me the place was totally inadequate. I flew to Boston a few days later (New Year's Eve) and took her out the next morning. Surprised a little she sort of expected me but not so early in the morning.
  3. Larry has already demanded to talk to the person in charge of Heaven with a long list of complaints. His is pissed Nancy Reagan talked to him and Judy Garland asked if he wanted her autograph.
  4. You are describing something the way a relatively newcomer would see a nursing home or assisted living facility. How about after living there a few years, and dealing with added health problems, or beloved children trying to visit often but alas dealing with rebellious tennagers and long hours at work. One needs to visit these wonderful places frequently and sometimes at unexpected hours - not just at lunch or dinner or breakfast. Is there enough heat on cold mornings in the Winter? Get to know the staff and the supervisors. Know the relatives of the other people who live there: check in occasionally at the local senior center. Visit frequently at hospitals when seniors are there. Be concerned about feeding tubes and ventilators.
  5. I don't really need all this information. I visited my six grade teacher in Massachusetts in a very nice assisted living facility. She remembered me immediately, but very difficult to have a real conversation because her world had because quite small. She did remember 60 years ago when I started the conversation. Otherwise, she responded more like an elementary school principal - her job for many years after my school year, 1954-55 That's the issue I have with this amazing place in Kansas. Too upbeat and sunny.
  6. Especially Doctor Matilde Krim, a scientist and activatist. Her husband was Arthur Krim, a Hollywood producer and leader of the Democratic Party who know Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. Doctor Krim was the founder of am far and a close friend of Lady Bird Johnson and her husband
  7. The Advocate calls Me. Kramer, "towering figure in AIDS Activism." Absolutely ??
  8. Are meals taken in a group dining hall, or in private rooms? Socialization is vital too. My first cousin died ten days ago at age 95, partly from being isolated in her room at assisted living because of the threat of novel coronavirus. For years, she took part in as many group activities as possible. Her children and their families were not allowed to visit. Last August I spent one day at good hospital in Washington District of Columbia. I wasn't that sick, but it took several days to recover mentally.
  9. Smart people seek advice from neighborhood senior centers, doctors, relatives and friends before nursing homes.
  10. Also the author of A Normal Heart and the founder of ACT UP. And one of the most controversial gay in the American. Not related to COVID19
  11. For the first few years of my mother's experience in a nursing home, we were able to afford a private room She wasn't suffering from complete dementia then, and could invite her women friends in for a long conversation. Made a sad situation much less sad.
  12. President Donald Trump mentioned the hundreds of thousands of flu related deaths each year often during the first six or seven weeks of novel coronavirus pandemic.
  13. [ Perhaps more students decided to shelter on line in their dorm rooms than Rev. Falwell anticipated. The classes were definitely not live because Mr. Falwell was concerned about teachers interacting with students in person. He was progressive in his thinking, to a degree. Perhaps students and parents reached an acceptable compromise on their own.
  14. According to an interview with Rev. Falwell on CNN after Spring break, all classes during the pandemic are on line. To the extent the University is open, some foreign students are still on campus, with appropriate social distance. To be fair, there may be other Liberty students on campus as well. Professors interact with students during face time. The Universities of Virginia and North Carolina (Chapel Hill) are closed, of course.
  15. Comment: why is The Wall Street Journal article about Liberty University's successful response to the novel coronavirus behind a pay wall,? Other publications have abandoned pay walls of important stories concerning novel coronavirus.
  16. Yet the Broadway actor We are in a pandemic concerning novel coronavirus. That is the same as children and their parents very concerned about polio especially during Summer before the vaccine. Activity can be limiting during a polio epidemic and during a coronavirus pandemic, no matter how careful one might be.
  17. @bigjoey, I don't keep track of the people who post in a specific forum here.
  18. You continue to claim without any proof that members are leaving that forum and even this site. And please stop writing "as you well know." I have never considered leaving the political forum.
  19. On the show, On that episode, a passenger from Kansas called Andy a "flakeball." And a drag queen role was cut from the first draft of the script. Warhol did meet Suzanne Somers, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart.
  20. Me too. And reading a new biography of Andy Warhol and a new book by Woody Allen. I didn't realize Warhol appeared in an episode of "The Love Boat."
  21. No good reason to give up weed. At times, Doctor Birx seemed "distracted" at her confusing press conference on Friday afternoon.
  22. Politcal issues are part of every day Life. If you believe the political forum is a cellpool, try to make it better rather than just frequently complain in this forum. Jeez
  23. I don't think so. I saw Mickey play against the Red Sox in Fenway Park and far more often on television.
  24. The first guy I hired traveled from Long Island to where I live in Philly, and stayed for over 24 hours. Tried to follow that successful fun time ever since. To be fair, I did meet him by accident in NYC first, but nothing much happened.
