Camp is in the eye of the beholder and, while I don't know that I see camp in Roth's concoction, it seems to be reckoning with the idea of camp more than many of the MetGala attempts. As a wise friend of mine insists, camp is found not made -- hence the many misfires of the MetGala. (For me, camp has to evince both humor and heart and, while I see the heart in Roth's ensemble, I don't see the humor.)
