davidrman: your post may not last as "reviews" aren't allowed in these forums....and, being a new member, a glittering review is sometimes suspect....believe it or not, some fakery and deception occurs here! please submit a review here: http://daddysreviews.com/submit

I prefer non-fiction or very well-written historical fiction (Michener style)....typical fiction can sometimes be a bit contrived, but not always..... Carl Hiaasen is always fun to read....and "Devil In The White City" is my current read - it may be made into a movie soon if DiCaprio and others come to an agreement, I hear

I thought the same thing....certainly appears to be..... -
I eliminated cable TV (Cox) about a year ago and bought a HD digital antenna (flat flexible piece of plastic) to receive the basic networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, Fox).....I do miss the cable networks at times, but don't miss the cable company charge to receive them....you'll probably have to play around with the antenna within your house to find a place where it'll pick up all the channels there is pretty much no network television I watch, though....occasionally the local or network news or "60 Minutes" or similar....my TV is mostly a vehicle for watching Netflix stuff....since Netflix has a rep for fewer streamed offerings, I still do the DVDs-by-mail thing with them

as noted in AdamSmith's link to Robert Moses above, most of the blame for the destruction of Penn Station is on the Pennsylvania Railroad itself.....it needed the money
-
well, you brought out the history nerd in me, Brian and marylander..... I was walking thru Penn Station a couple months ago and did already know it used to be one of the grand old railroad stations.....a lot of history there....torn down in the early 1960s to build Madison Square Garden and an office building (and a revamped train station, of course!)...... for those interested..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania_Station_(1910–1963) http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2013/10/28/50_years_later_relive_the_destruction_of_old_penn_station.php http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/penn/

no good deed goes unpunished, I guess.... give him a call, natmas, and chat him up......don't you do that anyway before arranging a first-time meet?...... I can't tell if he'll be a good person for everybody on this board and I certainly didn't try to determine that (would be impossible, of course).....I've only met a dozen or two forum members here in person - and each has different preferences
-
for those interested, the review posted today (Dec 8).....he might be listed as "TH" in the future archives..... http://daddysreviews.com/search/Active/~/th_la
