  1. An early Tom Selleck?
  2. Except perhaps in France where even if they know you’re learning French they’ll deride you until they can detect no accent what so ever. After all “Le monde civilisé tout entier parle français.”
  3. Is THAT what you have in mind?
  4. Too much of a good thing is not enough!
  5. Bigger is always better - and that applies to this pic too. ps. I'd like to have been the tattooist!

  9. Isn’t that the objective (well except for the “very”)?
  10. It would be really tragic if disappeared completely. Some of us remember vividly his eloquent, thoughtful and observant letters from jail.
  11. Viagra? Hell!!! More potent than a Trimix injection!!
  12. Have you been naughty or nice?
  13. That was fast. Already 404’d
  14. I would respectfully disagree @quoththeraven. This is a conundrum to me. The subset of humans capable of being trained to make a sound that will fill a 4,000-seat auditorium is not very large. And within that group, the subset of those who’s sound is both pleasant and musical is smaller still. And within that tiny group the number who can project that musicality with passion is almost infinitesimal. And now we expect all those in this tiny group to be able to turn that passion on and off with the decorousness of a Swiss Banker? There’s more than a bit of hypocrisy going on here. I can’t believe that The Met was unaware of James Levine’s’ shenanigans: rumors were rampant for decades or of Domingo’s many peccadilloes. But Domingo and Levine put a lot of butts in the many seats in that house. Of course, any performer who assaults another physically or sexually deserves appropriate punishment. Same to those in authority who offer career advancement in return for sexual favors (a la Levine and Domingo). But short of that I think we all (performers, administrators and fans alike) better grow up and act as adults. Some of the passion expressed on the operatic stage is a substitute for the passion missing in our lives and the pursuit of such passion is not always appropriate. They’re performing at The Met or La Scala not the Sistine Chapel. If this #MeToo movement persists in the opera world, we’ll be reduced to Toscas that will have all the heat and energy of a Handel oratorio. I love Handel oratorios but I love opera too. We need both. [End Of Rant]
  15. I’ve twice encountered suicide in my professional life. The first early in my career involved a teller in our drive-up window who watched the ambulance depart from across the parking lot only to discover that the call was to her home where her teenage son and only child had strangled himself. As I recall she never returned to work. The second was a young colleague who went to lunch at the old Downtown Athletic Club in NYC and never returned. He jumped off the roof. He was a member and had broken his femur in an accident in the pool area. In the recovery he became addicted to Percocet and couldn’t break that addiction. At least that was the assumption. I also belonged to the DAC. For years thereafter I wondered if the empty gray suit that hung on rack in the locker room had been his. In my personal life I had a great uncle who boarded the Digby NS - Boston ferry and never disembarked. Depression and alcoholism are closely related. Every male on my father’s side of the family save my father, a cousin who was my father’s contemporary and died early from a heart attack and I have been institutionalize either in hospital or jail by drink. One cousin endured both later died of what was termed alcoholic epilepsy. That has persisted at least to the generation behind mine. About 20 years ago I was diagnosed as a low grade chronic depressive who had been so for about 40 years. I was treated with a variety of antidepressants until my liver where they all were metabolized failed. Given my family history, my psychiatrist attributed my condition to biology. The immediate cause of most depression and hence suicide is the brain’s mishandling of the hormone serotonin. When the cause of the mishandling in evident as in grief, suicide seems explainable. Too often the cause is not evident; it’s either a genetic disposition, as in my case, or a later malfunction. In those cases, suicide is not explainable, and judgments are unwarranted. In my case I had two suicidal ideations. In the last instance I was attempting to save my beloved partner from the misery of watching and caring for me as my mental illness progressed. In both instances there was someone in the right place at the right time. I later learned that my condition was not so much depression but a profound mood disorder that seems treatable with a different hormone: testosterone. Interestingly, I’ve found it more difficult to come out as having battled mental illness than as being gay.
  16. When you're ready to warm up I'm here.

  19. Alas it is and will be limited run series of nine episodes. HBO has declined to renew. I’ve greatly enjoyed the seven episodes aired to date. There’s a wonderful parallel plot of sexual awakening between Eve and her son Brenden. The last episode ended with Brenden arriving home late at night and unannounced only to find mother Eve naked in bed with one of her plus sized colleagues and one of his former high school classmates who he bullied. It’s how each of them got to that point that’s interesting. I’m going to miss Mrs Fletcher when it’s over.
  20. Oh NO!! I’m in LUST yet again. Stay right there. Don’t EVER move. [swoon]
