Once we got his other "gun" whipped out, everything was much more relaxed.... suffice it to say that he left the room much more relaxed than when he arrived Turns out, even though he came across as rough around the edges when he first walked in, he turned out to be a really nice guy who was easy to talk with. That being said, cops are not automatons of justice; they're real human beings with emotion and physical needs, so it's not completely out of the realm of possibility that a cop, especially a younger one, would moonlight as an escort.
 
However, the guy in question here, according to his LinkedIn page, is STILL a cop (it says 2016-Present) - I join others on this thread in saying that I find it hard to believe a cop would use his own pics to pull of a sting operation, if that were his intention. Either he's legit and doing this on the side, or else it's a fake profile that's using this guy's photos - I do find it interesting, though, that there is no phone # posted for contact...most Rentmen guys *prefer* to be contacted by text or phone, not by e-mail. Time will tell, I guess...we'll have to wait for Hung_Cody's report!

I’ve seen this but in the opposite direction. Lots of fake profiles of “daddies” that will ask to start giving me money right away even if they can’t meet up anytime soon and will want to know my PayPal log in information to do this...which makes zero sense and gives it away as a scam instantly. I hope nobody actually falls for that.

It's also possible that the LinkedIn page is outdated. Hung_Cody has convinced me that may be the case, based on some other details of his instagram that I hadn't noticed. Other research of mine suggests he was definitely still a cop a few months ago, but that timeline actually fits with instagram. Soooo... looking forward to hearing back, hehe.

Maybe, but let us not forget that there are a lot of stupid people in the world...and not everyone is computer savvy enough to run a "reverse photo search."

As I said in my other reply, they seem to be more prevalent on just regular daddy/younger dating sites, but they're on the sugar baby sites as well - I think you've either been exceptionally wise and insightful or exceptionally fortunate to not have been in an exchange with one of these guys. They don't just frequent gay dating sites, either - they're after women as well, often under the guise of being military. These fakers really do their homework with the types of photos they post, but their use of language in chatting usually gives them away.

I derailed any attempt to use the air ticket, since it was JetBlue - put the salvageable amount into Travel Bank, to which only I have the password and sign-in, so option #2 wouldn't work for him anyway.

I tested this with a friend of mine a few weeks ago. He wanted to block his boss (lol) so he blocked me and we tested it. It was sent as an iMessage and I didn't get any "delivered" message. When he unblocked me, the bubble turned from blue to green (iMessage to SMS) but I still didn't get a delivered message -- which I never do on SMS texts.

This...and as we’ve discussed before the reality of an arrangement and what it is and what it isn’t starts to strike Home...

Possibilities that come to mind:
1) he had good intentions when he accepted the offer but got cold feet at the prospect of flying somewhere and snipped all the connections to you
2) he saw an easy mark and intended to scam you from the outset. He walked away with the value of the ticket, presumably free and clear with no expenses.
3) he's a flake who doesn't know what he's going from one moment to the next and something shiny caught his attention.
4) something happened and he was willing but unable to get on the plane.

I'm in the camp that says if what you've been doing has always worked, stick with it. And definitely don't force anything.

The whole thing is really just "a pain in the ass"....
