A friend of mine is a creative in this show: I really wanted to like it, but it's really a lame duck for me.

Hugh Jackman to Star in ‘Music Man’ on Broadway
 
Hugh Jackman is returning to Broadway next year in a revival of “The Music Man.”
Mr. Jackman teased the idea via Twitter on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the producer Scott Rudin announced a run, which he said would begin previews Sept. 9, 2020, and open on Oct. 22, 2020 at an unspecified Shubert theater.
Mr. Jackman, 50, has appeared on Broadway four times. In 2004, he won a Tony Award as best actor in a musical for “The Boy from Oz,” and in 2012 he was granted a special, noncompetitive, Tony for his professional and volunteer efforts in the Broadway community.
“The Music Man,” with book, music and lyrics by Meredith Willson, first opened on Broadway in 1957. Mr. Jackman will play Harold Hill, a scam artist who pretends to be a musician and makes money selling instruments and uniforms to boys aspiring to be part of a band in River City, Iowa.
The original production won the 1958 Tony Award for best musical, besting “West Side Story.” There was a brief revival at City Center in 1980 starring Dick Van Dyke, and a longer-lived revival, starring Craig Bierko, that opened in 2000.
No further casting was announced for the new revival, which will be directed by Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, who collaborated on a 2017 revival of “Hello, Dolly!” that was also produced by Mr. Rudin.
The “Music Man” announcement was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
 
Sure to be a hit. I think he's perfect for the role and this is a musical with a great score.

What's most curious is these rates being charged by guys with little-to-no reviews and a weak marketing game. As I've always said, the market will dictate if they keep their rates high... If people pay, it'll stay. If not, watch those hourly rates tumble down.

I respectfully disasgree with my distingusihed colleague @tchm . I found the movie as a whole completely engaging, although I think where the money came from at the end was a bit contrived and unnecessary. And Streep's role in this film was totally unlike her appearance in Mama Mia or any other film I've seen her in. I don't think the songs will hold up as well on their own as those in the original, but they fit the movie quite well.

You were up-front about it and that's all we can ask. The worst is when people push through, get sicker and then usually get everyone they come in contact with sick as well. That's just selfish.
 
Unless the guy was losing long-term gig kind of money, I don't see why he handled it that way: There's a certain amount of shrink you have to accept working in this industry.

My general rule is greater than 24 hours....no problem.

You can easily see that cancelling a one hour appointment 36 hours
in advance with a guy who’s passing through town anyways....is
dramatically different than cancelling 8 hours before a 3 day
weekend appointment with a guy who flew into town just to

I suspect the former is closer to the truth...but we don’t know that yet.

A nurse at a healthcare facility in Arizona was arrested Wednesday for raping an incapacitated patient who gave birth last month, police said.
 
Nathan Sutherland, 36, a licensed practical nurse at the Hacienda HealthCare facility was arrested for sexual assault and vulnerable adult abuse after providing authorities with a DNA sample Tuesday under court order, said Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams.
 
 
The 29-year-old woman has been a patient at the facility since she was a toddler after a near-drowning.
 
Cops initially said she was in a coma, but a lawyer for her family said last week that she’s not. The lawyer says she has “significant intellectual disabilities” and can’t speak but has some ability to move her limbs, make facial gestures and respond to sounds.
 
She gave birth to a baby boy Dec. 29.
 
Sutherland had been one of the staff members responsible for her care at the time of the assault, the police chief said.
 
Employees at the long-term health facility said they had no clue the victim was pregnant and court records say her last physical was in April.
 
Sutherland was being booked into Maricopa County Jail Wednesday morning.

I liked the original so much. But, it would be interesting to see this version. Glad to see Dick Van Dyke is in this new version.
