Well, first of all Cherubino was premiered by a woman. Personally I think that even if we of course have no idea what a castrato would sound like (the only existing recording is of a mediocre too old one, Moreschi), most of the times a countertenor doesn't have the heft, color, chest notes and range uniformity of a light or coloratura mezzo (or sometimes a Verdi mezzo like in the video I post here) who has always played the role. I am quite self conscious about being very clean when I know I am going to bottom. I have been a bottom 90% of the times I had gay sex in my life since my first time 45 years ago in my late teens. I think what I described briefly at the beginning of this long thread is what happened to most gay men. I don't want to talk for everybody, but I have the feeling that's how it went especially for older generation. Society (especially 30/40/50 and more years ago!) tells you that when you are an adolescent you should have one or more girlfriends like all your friends, and you know that that's not what you really want and feel. Some of us stuck his toes in heterosexual sex (I did until I was 20 and came out for good), some did not until the "final" decision was taken. Most gay men (I think, at least in Western societies) are out to the world now, some are not, some keep tasting both waters, some (like myself) are only homosexuals. And the choice is there. 🤷‍♂️
