I think is a generational thing. Until the 1960s the uber majority of men had short hair, and since then we got used to see more men with long hair. I was a teenager in the 70s and sometimes I had longish hair, but it would still look quite odd to me a man with hair to his shoulders. Nonetheless, nail polish of every kind was only for women.
I think it is quite recent that men started to polish their nails. I even tried once myself to get it (no color) during a manicure, but I washed it out immediately when at home, I felt uncomfortable, like I was using eyeliner.
I totally feel that everyone is entitled to choose if doing it or not, but the couple of times that I hired or hooked up with a masculine man (what I like) with colored nail polish (hands or feet) I felt like it was a turn off. 🤷♂️
