  5. Opera Australia has a summer season of opera at the Sydney Opera House after a 12 month drought. 4 works Merry Widow, Ernani, Tosca and Blue Beard's Castle. Last night on a perfect Sydney summer's night I attended Ernani. This was a co production with La Scala and the first time Opera Australia has performed the work, although interestingly it was the first Verdi opera ever performed in Australia, in Melbourne in the late 19th century. It was a wonderful production, slightly tongue in cheek sending up the silly plot (3 guys after the one girl) but colourful and appreciated by the audience. The singing was very good with 2 local singers in the lead roles and an imported baritone and bass. The singer who made the most impact was the bass in the role of Silva, Vitalij Kowaljow. He has sung in worlds leading houses including the Met and La Scala. This was early Verdi at his finest with glorious melodies and rousing choruses. The opera deserves to be performed more often. The performance was given under COVID restrictions, with only 75% of the seats in the Opera House sold (social distancing) and the audience had to wear masks. One amusing footnote. My companion and I were having a drink on the terrace overlooking the harbour before the performance when an American guy came up to us and introduced himself as the Sydney correspondent for the New York Times. He was writing a story on the opening of the opera season (bearing in mind we are one of the few cities at the moment with opera), and what was it like to be back at the Opera House, how were we coping with COVID restrictions etc etc. This is likely to be the one and only time I am quoted in the New York Times!
  6. Legs are his best attribute.
  7. A cutie.

  9. The (gay) CEO of Qantas Alan Joyce has just made a wide ranging speech on the future of the airline in a post COVID world. One of his plans include non stop flights from the east coast of Australia to Rio de Janeiro. One prediction I sincerely hope comes true.
  10. Andrew Lloyd Webber. Wallpaper music.
  11. The Australian Open starts this year on 8 February. Margaret Court has accepted her award of AC (Companion of the Order of Australia), Australia's highest civilian decoration, much to the annoyance of some of us.
  12. Australia Day is 26 January, celebrating the day the First Fleet arrived on our shores in 1788. Aboriginal people have increasingly opposed this being our national day as they suffered following the arrival of European civilisation. They view it as invasion day. Many non Aboriginal people agree and believe it is not an appropriate national day. There is no denying Australia is divided on this point.
  13. Happy Australia Day to everyone on this forum!

  16. I have told numerous stories (as have others) on other threads relating to rip offs by boys in Asian countries so I won't repeat myself here. I'm not saying that it may be possible to find a meaningful relationship, I know of one from my circle of acquaintances. Mind you he's a mega mega millionaire which has help sustain an 18 year relationship not withstanding a 30 odd year age difference. A final word. Farang (foreigners) are not known in Thailand as walking ATM's for nothing.

  18. There has been countless stories on this and other gay forums of Westerners who have visited countries like Thailand, the Phillipines, Morocco, Brazil seeking true “love” and have found true grief. There is not the slightest suggestion on my part that Asian men that you meet in a Western country are automatically after your money. Compatibility, mutual interests, attraction are the basis for long term relationships and race has nothing to do with it.
  19. Do Asian bodies get better than this?

  21. He’s a real find if your lucky enough to live in Virginia or DC.
  22. Absolutely revolting. He would have to pay me. An awful lot.
  23. He’s my idea of super cute.
  24. True, however he is working in closely with his political masters. He has done a great job during the pandemic. I get the impression Professor Murphy has a sensitive political antenna.
  25. Australia’s Health Secretary and former Chief Medical Officer, Professor Brendan Murphy made it clear yesterday that Australians won’t be going anywhere in a hurry. He predicted that the border closure will likely continue for the rest of the year not withstanding the vaccine rollout. Depressing but unfortunately realistic.
