His rate was what he told you, $400, no different than if he'd listed this in an ad. What was the point in telling him his rate was too high? You could have just said "no thank you" and moved on. Instead, you chose to continue to discuss his rate. He only changed his rate once you started to haggle it down.

My point was in a market like NYC 400 for an hour is very high. Hey if he can get it so be it. His rate is totally arbitrary.

I stumbled on this earlier today:
in the video, the escort (seems to be legal in England) gets a call and the client isn't prepared to pay his rate. The escort mentions that if he doesn't have business later that evening, he'll contact that client back with a lower offer.

This makes sense to me, from a business perspective. Since the escort had the idea it was just the amount, if nothing else is available, take less money and get the money in rather than having an income-less night. In that section of the report, it's a decent conversation, and inquiry as to price, the client not being willing to spend it and the two men ending there. The escort has a plan to salvage some income if he doesn't get other business. Sensible. The same would happen in other businesses. If your price is too high, you need to adjust it.

I thought I'd post this video here as it directly related to the conversation.

I saw this video awhiles back and the various escorting situations can definitely be discussed here.

Really? Interesting.

You got exactly the rate you wanted with exactly the man you wanted. Now, you're looking for some sort of guarantee that the experience will be perfect. The client-escort relationship is asymetrical. To you he's special. To him, you're a client. Some clients are better than others, but they're all clients.

Not looking for a guarantee that the escort is perfect. I've been doing this for awhile now and never expect that. I did get the rate to a level I could afford. All that I was attempting to rationalize was the disparity of the rate. As a client doesn't it make one wonder? That's all I was trying to say.

Of the escorts I've seen, none seemed to be in it in desperation - meaning that they needed to escort to pay rent/buy food. All either had other jobs and used it to supplement their income, or it was their job. Of the ones where it is their business, and best I can tell they are doing well.

I've been with a few strippers who were doing it from need. One was a real estate guy at Swinging Richards during the downturn. Another was in New Orleans, adding to the income from his day job since he had a kid. For a straight boy, he did a bang up job, knowing his situation changed things a bit, and I had to admire his dedication to doing a good job.
