I think Rentmen has false privacy settings

I read a post here today about an escort that responds to every click on his page, so I tried it. I was not logged in and my privacy settings according to the site are private, and indicate nobody can see if I check out their pages. Well ... I got an email from rentmen 5 minutes later saying he sent me a private message on the site. I wasn’t even logged in! WTF? I will still enjoy the site, but rentmen should not offer privacy settings to give you a sense of privacy if they don’t exist.

 

Any insight from clients or escorts? I know it shouldn’t matter if I look at a few pages a few times over time to decide if I may hire one day, but I am disappointed.

The escorts can definitely see every time you have checked them out. I have had a couple to make a comment to me regarding so. I keep my privacy settings so you can't see when I am stalking you but it means nothing to the escort. I have other non-escorts look at my profile after I have looked at theirs as well.

If you were not logged in and still received a message from an escort, it sounds like a coincidence. Alternatively, it could be a bug and you could send them a note reporting it.

There’s no way it was a coincidence. I did it specifically as a privacy check. Posts on here talk about an escort in NY, who responds to any click, which is not usual. So I tried it. He’s in a different city and I’ve never gotten an unsolicited message in a year.

 

If it’s a bug, weird one, to be sure. I did write them about the issue tonight. I’ll post the response I get. Thanks for your response. Have a nice weekend.

I guess so! In the end, it shouldn’t matter. They’re advertising and we’re looking and paying. Just business, I get it. I just don’t like false privacy assurances. Thanks for your response.

Based on the OP’s original statement I was under the impression that he wasn’t logged in. Which was the cause for alarm. Wouldn’t that/shouldn’t that be equivalent to being an unregistered user??? Perhaps I’ve misunderstood.

Beyond the prior suggestion that the profile owner was methodically sending messages to non-viewing, registered users (which has happened to me a few times), I would think that the only ways this could occur are 1) RM is intentionally looking for contact info in cookies for users who are not logged in and notifying the profile owner of a "view" (this seems highly unlikely; there's no meaningful reason to do this), or, 2) the OP may have appeared to have been logged out but his session was still active and associated with his username (I'm not sure of the technical reasons this might occur... perhaps if RM is open on more than one browser session?).

I think you hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head. In my experience, my privacy settings have blocked escorts seeing my visits to their ads (I've asked!).

I was logged out and have privacy settings. RM did contact me to ask the name of the person who contacted me to check it out. I did, and never heard back. Not a big deal, but privacy settings don’t matter on many sites.
