RE: Hooked On Homophonics

KYTop makes a good point. Funny that the only guys I know who have an American car drive a Mustang and a Jaguar. I drive Japanese myself.

RE: Boycott Ford? No thanks

>You make it sound as I you live in the WEHO of KY. WOW I

>didn't think there were that many gays in your state.

>

Actually we do have a fairly large gay population and an active one at that. We have a Gay Rights Ordinance that gives Gay and transgendered persons protection against job and housing discrimination. We also have one of the largest Gay clubs in the country here. On New Year's Eve and for the KY Derby crowd they actually block off the street in front of the club due to the crowds. Our gay pride parade is pretty lame though.

And how "Gay Friendly" are they? Want to Boycott them?

I actually though you like to "ride" some Japanese. :)

BTW: Jaguar is not an American car, just made by an American Company.

Corporate boycotts are extremely ineffective and don't really have any effect whatsoever on a company in the long term. Here's a list of some current boycotts going on and the reasons behind them. Many of them are really off the wall and illustrate that boycotts are advocated by fringe elements that are more effective at generating short term news rather than long term effectiveness.

http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/boycotts/boycotts_list.htm

While we are beating up Ford Motor Company let's also include the current boycotts for the following:

Adidas, Air France, Bacardi, Bayer, Botswana, Anheuser Busch aka Budweiser, Canada, Catepilar, China, Coca Cola, Daimler Chrysler, Delta Airlines, Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan, Israel, Gap, SC Johnson & Co., Levis, Lonely Planet Travel Guides, McDonalds, Nestle, Nike, Protor & Gamble, Shell Oil, Starbucks, Texaco, Turkey, Unilever, and World Bank as well as many others.

Looks like Ford Motor Co. would be in good company.

No doubt your proposed boycott of Canada would be because we have a law that permits same sex marriage eh?

You are wrong. I am not proposing any boycott whatsoever.

If you check the link closely you will see it’s proposed by a group called Respect for Animals. It’s supported by the Humane Society and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. They seem to be upset about slaughtering over a million baby seals with government subsidy.

While I find such a practice of clubbing baby seals reprehensible, there are more effective ways of changing government policies.

Anyone who comes and reads here regularly is familiar with this foreigner Zipperzone's pattern. He posts his I Hate the USA and Here's What Wrong With America threads; then he preaches to us on How To Fix Our Country. Amazing how he views himself as such an authority and he doneas't even live here.

And let any other posters disagree with his views, and Mr Zipperzone

launches a vicious personal attack on that poster. A perfect example is his attack on KY Top and Dannyrossmoore above.

Actually, the Phillip-Morris boycott by gay activists in the early 90's was EXTREMELY successfull.

The one relatd to Benson & Hedges avertising focused on the gay community? That ended in charges that the gay leadership was bought off once the company foundation increased donations to HIV/AIDS groups. My point is that its easier for activists to call for a boycott and then claim success withoutever documenting proof.

Well now, Fit

I find your post amusing.

Firstly I'd like to say that by my commenting on Ford's caving into homophobic retoric, does not constitute a criticism of anything exclusivy American - Ford manufactures cars in Canada too as well as in many other parts of the world, so I don't think you have any exclusivity there.

Your referance to me as a "foreigner" would seem to indicate that you consider this site to be uniquely American. You seem to forget that while it may originate in the US, in these days of the internet, this type of site has no boundry, it has contributors from all over the world - it is truly "global". Do you have a problem with people from other countries - you're not really a bigot are you?

You're wrong - I never post that I hate the US - if that's what you get from my posts, you should either change your glasses, or retake "basic English comprehension 101"

And just because I point out something that I perceive to be "wrong" in your country, shouldn't get your panties in a twist. Or are you one of those Americans who are so thin skinned and so short sighted that you think there is no other place or peoples that can even come close to matching what you have?

And if I happen to mention something that I think needs fixing, and didn't have an opinion of how it might be fixed - you'd probably attack me for that too.

And if you think anything I said in this thread is a "vicious personal atack on the poster"..... You REALLY need help - and in this regard, I can offer no suggestions - you're on your own!

RE: Boycott Ford? No thanks

I live on a street on which most residents are gay men (eleven out of fifteen). Among them I count one old Ford Explorer, a Ford Escort and a Ford pickup. The other cars are two BMWs, two Cadillacs, a Chrysler, a Buick, a Volvo and a Chevy pickup. We have a Mercedes and a Honda. The last American car I bought was a Ford, but that was in 1969. Subaru is probably the most gay-supportive car company, but I don't know any gay acquaintance who owns one.

RE: Boycott Ford? No thanks

>Let's see now a few

>facts. Ford Motor Company has a reputation of being a gay

>friendly company with a 100% gay friendly rating from the HRC.

>They place ads for 3 of their cars in gay publications. 2 of

>those 3 are not selling as well as they would like so they cut

>the ads on 2 of those cars and continue the ads on the other

>one.

That is not what happened at all and those are not the facts. Ford was threatened with a BOYCOTT by the AFA and they caved in; this had nothing to do with sales revenue from the ads. Ford has already admitted that the reason they pulled the ads was because of threats from the AFA. Yes, Ford used to be "gay-friendly" but Ford now has two former senior Bush administration officials working for them and they are the two who struck this secret deal with the homophobic pseudo-Christian group. KY, why do you support the AFA? Why do you think it would be wrong for gay people to boycott Ford but it's OK for the AFA to threaten a boycott as part of its anti-gay agenda? As Jeff posted below, would you support their decision if Ford betrayed African-Americans and Jews if the Klan objected?

"Ford Motor Co.'s decision to cease advertising in gay publications for its Jaguar and Land Rover luxury brands is part of a truce between the auto maker and the American Family Assn. (AFA) Ford has agreed not to sponsor any future gay and lesbian events." - Wards Auto, 12/7/05

"When asked if the advertising was being discontinued because of the threatened AFA boycott, [Ford Spokesman Mike] Moran said, 'Ceasing advertising is an outgrowth of those meetings.'" - Metro Weekly, 12/8/05

"They are acting on our concerns." - AFA Chairman Donald Wildman, NYT, 12/5/06

Zipper, I think it was Doug69 who once figured out that bigpeteratlanta = Fit in LA = dannyrossmoore = uptownmike, so I think he actually likes you a lot. He is replying to you with all of his multiple personalities. ;-)

I drive a Subaru in part because they're gay friendly and advertize in gay publications. I don't buy Fords because they make crappy cars, and now I have one more reason not to buy them.

That's a pretty funny list. Don't forget to boycott Sabena Airlines, especially since they've been out of business for, what five years or more? (Such a crime to transport lab animals)

No, it was against Marlboro, Budweiser, Kraft, all phillip-morris compaines, for aligning themselves with Jessie Helms. They retracted their alignment and started doanting to many gay and HIV causes as well as courting the gay market through ads.

Rick Munroe: Your statement that I have posted here under different names is TOTALLY FALSE. You, the webmaster, or anyone else can check the ISP for my computer and will find it's a relative small local company. I'm sure no other poster here is using that ISP but you are welcome to check.
