He mentioned that in the USA the gym showers are open areas while in the UK they have stalls.

In high school we had a large open shower. Our phys ed class had boys from Freshmen to Senior in all stages of physical development. I thought it would have been better to have had individual stalls.

That's not universally true...

I've never been to a gym. My only experience was many years ago in high school. We had to take a shower at the end of every P.E. class.

My landlord is a school teacher. He told me things have changed but I don't remember the details.

I go to a gym everyday. I've never been to one that had universal stalls. When I was in high school in the 70's, all the showers were in stalls. I've been to the UK, but never been inside a gym there.

The only gyms I've been to that were completely open with just showerheads on a wall were YMCAs and HS/college locker rooms. Nobody used my HS showers and very few people used the college ones. My local YMCA installed partitions and curtains over the showerheads in the early 2000s. Which was bad because the showerheads were pretty close together and that meant you'd bang your arms on the walls. I've seen one or two gyms where there were just walls between showerheads but the front was open so you were exposed to anyone walking past, but nearly all have curtains or doors. The doors are not always completely opaque though.

He was too theatrical (not sure if I spelled it right) in his speech and body actions. It was just too much over the top. Listening to him, he actually drains you of energy.

Wonder what his fellow village people think of him back in the UK? I can only guess.

You mean he was acting stereotypically gay? ;-)))

You’ve really never been to a health club/gym? I’m in horrible shape, but I’ve occasionally been to a gym although currently it’s been years. I think the last gym I went to had stalls.

And what about bathhouses, most of them -or at least the ones I’ve been to-have open areas to shower. (I don’t go very often. I mainly went when an escort couldn’t host. And since I’m not hiring now, QED. )

In junior high we were all around the pole. I remember they made us shower in 7th grade. I was a fat kid, kid and I hated it. Plus in 7th grade, the guys in competitive athletics still took normal PE. So there were some -albeit just entering puberty guys-in pretty good shape. After 7th grade, the competitive athletic guys had a last period PE just for them which then led directly to after school athletic practice.

I don’t remember them being as strict on us showering when I was in 8th and 9th grade. And in 10th grade my last year of PE, I’m pretty sure the shower was open. But I don’t remember ever taking one. I probably should have. Soccer wasn’t an official sport in my school system. There was a soccer star who had to take regular PE. I don’t remember him being particularly muscular-but he was in my PE class, and I think he used to take showers.

As for college, we only had a one year PE requirement. I took bowling and taekwando. I think the taekwando was off campus. But I never showered there even if there were showers available, which I can’t remember.

I thought I was through with PE when I graduated high school but I was wrong. I had to take PE in college; maybe because it was my age. I only had to take one semester and there were several choices. I took archery. I didn't have to change my clothes nor shower afterwards. I never even entered the gym. I went directly to the archery field.

In my highschool gym and in the Stadium (where we had to change for a year while the Gym was being remodeled):

My high school gym shower was basically a big tiled room with showerheads coming out of the walls, so it wasn't too hard to keep my eyes to myself. But one of the schools we played had these freestanding ones, and I hated them. Now would be a different story, maybe. Both my gym and pool have stalls, although only the gym has shower curtains.
