I have CIFS.... Compulsive Imelda Footwear Syndrome.

I think it started 1985. Era and job dictated suit & tie daily. Bought a pair of Johnston Murphy wingtips. Over $100 - big bucks for me at that time, probably my disposable income for a month. Salesman advised "these are good shoes. If you buy quality shoes and never wear the same pair two days in a row, they'll last forever." Ruined me for life.

2014. I had about 75 pair, maybe more. Some still in boxes, never worn

2015, started finding shoes tight and uncomfortable. Attributed to onset of old age, feet widening.

2016, new pair of shoes in store, my size, didnt fit. Feet measured first time in decades. Size increased- fallen arches.

2017... donated almost all of the shoes to charity, threw a few in trash. Actually sold some of the never-worns. Back up to 30 pair in new size, a few old comfy pair.

And purchased four pair today, which is why this post caught my eye.

Reading @LaffingBear post made me smile. When you are approaching as many as I have, MOST dont get worn, especially if you are Retired like me, so there they all sit, it their labelled boxes. BUT I have EBAY where I sell alot of the lonely, unworn footwear. It's amazing, people BUY.... and I never had a pair for sale that didnt sell.... Only problem is that EBAY is also a great outfit for aquisition, and when I sell a pair, I usually end up buying 1 or 2 to replace them.... Not sure WHY ? Its kinda like a game..... Some people are buying Bitcoin; I am buying shoes (that I dont wear). AND like Laffingbear my SIZE also changed. My whole life I wore a size 11... I have a wide foot (EE) , but the selections for wide feet are ugly, so I always squeezed into a D (medium width) , and suffered from uncomfortable shoes....BUT they always matched my outfits.... NOW old and crochety I wont put up with discomfort and buy size 12.5... Ahhhhhhh, so nice and roomy. Therefore I tend to wear my newer purchases instead of my collected ones, which just sit in my huge, walk-in shoe closet and REMIND me what a Fool i am ! (until I sell them)

Hmm, 6. Black & brown dress, winter boots, regular sneakers, mud/garden sneakers, sandals.

For many years (about 23) I had a pair of Doc Martin sandals that I picked up in Italy in the 80s. My local cobbler finally told me he could not repair them any more. Broke my heart to let them go. Comfy, sturdy, unique and oddly stylish, I could wear them about 10 months of the year. I still miss them.

My God! Where does everyone go to need so many? Not criticizing but how many different outfits do you have such that you would need that many shoes. I feel like I live in a convent.

Well you have your dress shoes, work shoes, casual shoes, tennis shoes, sandals/flip-flops,other types and seasonal shoes in various colors and material. Then there are the times when you go to the shoe store and you just can't pass up the deal. For example I was at Ralph Lauren outlet about 10 years ago during Father's Day and they had a pair of alligator loafers marked down and with the Father's Day discount of 25% I end up paying around $35 for the shoes.

As for outfits all I'll say is we converted a bedroom into a closet for me and I could use still use more room.

I have 12EE feet so not much of a selection in both athletic and dress shoes. So, total I got 5 shoes and one that is on its last thread of being held together.

Looked at Zappo selections and pretty lame.
