Got a text from someone at mintboys.com to advertise.

It didn't seem like a bot so i responded and they actually texted me back.

Seems like a new site.

Got contacted by Chris, Scott is the founder and they will be advertising in December.

Thoughts?

Hi, I'm Scott, the founder of https://www.mintboys.com. Yes, you're correct that those messages weren't a bot. We've personally reached out to people like you to invite to be in our site.

We're just getting started at MintBoys, but all of the site features are now active. We're in a handful of cities now and planning to expand to more soon. Since we're a new website, we're allowing escorts to advertise for free.

MintBoys is different than the other websites - our vision is bring the male escort industry out of the shadows and to make escorting legal and safe. We do this by including clear disclaimers stating that money is exchanged for time only, not sex. We screen all profiles to make sure that all photos and content are consistent with this message. We advise all clients and escorts not to agree to exchange money for sex when communicating. We want to protect not only ourselves, but the escorts and clients.

Since the collapse of RentBoy (the original one), I think many people are now aware of the risks involved with the old male escorting model. I know people that had advertised on RentBoy up until it was shut down, and decided to stop escorting because they didn't want to risk getting caught and having criminal record. I assume there are clients that stopped meeting people for the same reason. We want to provide a safe, legal way for them to come back.

A little bit of background on me: I was an escort for 7 years, and advertised on the original RentBoy. Later on, after I quit working as an escort, I became a client that regularly meets people from these kind of websites. So I think this gives me insight into the needs and concerns of both clients and escorts.

I'm happy to answer any questions.

Best,

Scott

We give the escorts a blank space to write what they want, where they can choose to give their height and weight or whatever other information they think is relevant. It’s great to hear everyone’s feedback, and we’ll consider adding additional fields for height and weight in the future.

Greg pointed out that MintBoys has a lot of rules. This is because we work differently from the other sites. It’s a necessary part of our vision of creating a safe, legal space for male escorts and clients. There are many potential escorts and clients out there that stay away from the industry because they don't want to risk legal trouble. MintBoys allows these people to get back into the business, and it allows people that are currently involved to stop putting themselves at risk. But admittedly it is a departure from the practices that are common on the other sites, and something that will require adaptation.

I’d be happy to hear any other feedback on the website or our business model.

Best,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Do you plan to have some sort of client rating system?

You've already lost your credibility with me. You have an ad in New York for "Very strong". It's using five year old pictures of a very prominent bodybuilder who does not even live in the U.S. He also doesn't look anywhere near like that anymore. So you're already infected with fraud.

Well, that is a bummer. The ship is sinking and it did not leave port.

The circuit video on the landing page automatically makes it all feel very dated to me. Was this a drag-and-drop design or was it done by someone with creative design experience?

In escorting, there's always been a slight sense of the great unknown between two first-timers meeting up: Mintboys, or any listing site for that matter, isn't going to change that. For many, it's part of the allure.

My two cents of advice: Keep things simple. Make accessing information quick and clean. Don't make your customer base feel seedy.

All of the ads featured on our site have been sourced from one of two ways:

#1- We've reached out to many escorts by text message, inviting them to either create their own profile or let us create one for them and email details about how they can view and edit it.

#2- People who have organically found us from websites such as this one.

I don't know that specific advertiser and can't comment if his photos are old and new, but he would have either been an escort that we reached out to that wanted to have his profile created in New York, or he would have been someone that organically found our site and decided to post a free ad. We wouldn't knowingly post a fake ad. That would be contrary to our vision of creating a quality site and experience. We also wouldn't create a profile on our site without getting the express consent of the person first.

We don't have any plans to add a client rating system right now, although we are considering adding a way for advertisers to link to their review page on other sites like Daddy's.

Scott100, your lengthy response leaves out the answer to this question: What are you going to do when someone has put you on notice that one of your ads is fake or fraudulent?

We already have a process for this. Each profile contains a link that says "Report this ad". The user can click on it and send a report of any issues with the ad. The report then goes into a queue where someone working for our website will promptly investigate it and potentially act upon it, if appropriate. Our FAQ page has a question and answer on this subject.

Was surprised to see their ad on Daddy's Review site today. Why in the world would he allow their advertising on his review site??

I’m sure he didn’t just allow it - Daddy got paid for it! There is a little overlap but one is a review site and the other is an advertising site. So it’s not a competitor.

Gotta say that I don't understand your marketing model at all. I get to see uninspiring photos of guys who tell me almost nothing about themselves, who provide nothing to inspire me that time with them would be well spent, and I am provided with a disclaimer that says that I shouldn't count on much of anything -- best of luck (wink/wink). What is there to inspire me to ever look at the site a second time?
