Well, Thanksgiving is upon us, and we now live in Trumps America. So why not try something NEW ?

 

The latest craze is the Bacon lattice Turkey. A turkey swathed in bacon lattice strips before roasting. Keep the meat "juicy" and flavors the juices for gravy....

 

It's on MY menu this year..... If you are cooking dinner, tell us what you have planned, and if you would think outside the box ?

 

PS - (you can wrap the drumsticks too!)

My grandmother used to serve a small glass of tomato juice as the 1st course. I might revive that tradition this year.

Not alone, and everyone goes home with leftover turkey this way. I’ll make my best andouille/turkey gumbo in the days following.

 

I am eatting alone, but I make a full meal cause I LOVE the leftovers the best....

Mmmm. Hot turkey sandwiches. Speaking of leftovers, suggestions for left over mashed potatoes? No croquettes please. ☺

 

I add egg and a bit of breadcrumbs, and put it in a square baking dish and bake like a cake, then cut into squares... Kinda makes like knishes.....

Sticking with my dear departed mother's baste of white wine & butter. I cooked a turkey basted in bourbon for a company potluck one year, I worked from home in the morning to cook it and from the fumes...well, the afternoon in the office was not my most productive.

Who brines their turkey? Bobby Flay said in one of his books “once you start bringing poultry you don’t go back..” this has been true for me. I’m not talking over the counter store bought brined birds that are injected to pump up their weight.

 

I make herb brine, Chinese five spice brine, Apple/sage brine, Cajun brine, citrus brine. My pineapple/orange brine for duck is a winner! And try bringing those healthy boneless/skinless chix breast sometime...adds a lot of flavor.
