Does anyone know who actually wrote the lyrics to this song, which is an anthem in La Cage Aux Folles? Jerry Herman? Perry Como?

As for tomorrow, who knows?

I did a search on the lyrics for The Best of Times is Now on Ask.com. It came up with quite a few hits.

"~ from the score of the Broadway musical "La Cage Aux Folles"

Words and Music by Jerry Herman, 1983"

Hope this is what you are looking for.

I was thrown off by a Perry Como recording of the song which had a copyright for the lyrics, but further research shows that Herman wrote them.

He was right too. That is, the best of times is now.

A better question might be why you were listening to Perry Como :9, but I've been known to go there too.

Yep. It's a great tune, and right on the mark.

The date of those lyrics was certainly ironic, as far as the gay community, of which Herman was very much a part, was concerned: they were written just as the AIDS epidemic was starting.

Yes, and there was criticism because the Herman version of La Cage did not reference AIDS. I didn't agree with that criticism.

Mr. Deej, I was researching the lyrics, not listening to Perry Como when the authorship confusion arose. Como puts me in a coma!

As for tomorrow, well, who knows?
