Hey guys,

Read this post and was wondering if any providers had thought about this - and what it might mean. I know when I had two separate facebook accounts, I ended up having to delete my non-muggle one because Facebook used my phone number and facial recognition to suggest it to my muggle friends.

Not fun. What do you think? This something you worry about?

Here's an article that provides background and instructions. The setting is in the Timeline and Tagging section, which may not be the first place some might think to look.

The article includes the caveat Note that the wording of that privacy setting doesn’t say Facebook itself can’t recognize your face. Your features will still be analyzed using Facebook’s AI software, but your friends won’t see tag suggestions.

Thats based on communication history, not geolocation. If that were the case anytime you stayed at a hotel, went to the mall, airport, etc. you would have a lot of suggestions for friends you've never met.

Indeed, or even if you spend an hour at the restaurant! All the other patrons at the next table would suddenly be suggested if proximity was being used.

Right! That is why I disable the GPS settings on my cell phone.

Lol you don’t need to.

None of the social apps use proximity/geolocation to decide who to suggest. Only who you actually contact through the phone (if you don’t change the default settings and let the app

do that).

If you avoid logging into social media on phone apps, its a little easier to prevent your social media from accessing details of your communication history and using it to suggest friendships/connections online.

I always log into social media from browsers rather than from apps. I also use a separate phone number for work & work account registrations than I do for personal accounts. I find keeping two completely separate phones is ideal, but not always practical.

Social media is kind of scary when it comes to privacy, especially for sex workers, that's for sure...
