+ friendofsheila
Has anyone ever owned a cat or dog, but was allergic to them (barring the few non-allergenic breeds, like the hairless ones and the poodles)? I wonder how I'll handle living in a household if there is already a pet therein, or my kids want a dog* or a cat, but I'm allergic to both. One owner I met at a cat show said she took Sudafed daily, which I'm not sure I'm willing to do. *(I really like the ones with big-honkin' noses who can make trouble and play tug-o-war**, but I sneeze with most any kind.) **(Dogs, not kids).:+
bigguyinpasadena
FOS I am very alergic to cats apperently-never noticed it till some one "gifted"me a cat that I have grown to love. You just have to live with it,brush the cat/dog often(yeah that is a lot of fun with cat dander alergies)get a special mitt to clean the dander off. Also sweep(or vacum)your floors, and upholstured pieces often and see if Febreze spray(for soft goods)helps-also invest in pillow covers and a washable top-sheet in place of a comforter/duvet/bedspread. My next investment will be a good air purifier. Even with all of this I still have to take an over the counter sinus/allergy medication on some nights. Also, some dogs(yorkies come to mind)are"hypoalerginic"
Curmudgeon
Count me among the allergic who owns cats. I love critters too much to let a little allergy stand in the way. I find that just being around them day-in and day-out I build up a tolerance which is REALLY helpful when I visit other households where the owners might not be as allergy-aware. Before I had the critters, I couldn't visit friends with pets. Now I can. On bad days, take a sudafed, and if you ever regret it just think of those times the cat curls up in your lap and purrs. Unconditional love doesn't come from many quarters, but it'll always be there from a pet.
+ Cash4Trash
The Bionic Air Purifier from The Sharper Image helped me and an allergic escort cope. Helped a good bit.
JT Brooklyn
In my own Experience as a "Dog" Owner, I have had both German Shepherds and Dobermans as Pets. My "Allergies" were mainly from the Dander, and appeared as a very slight red irritation around my wrists. Which I found very manageable...Keeping your Pet's "Dander & Fur under Control" is very important! But for me "Cats" are another story. I have friends who have 2 Cats, after about 15 mins in their House, it is Time for me to Leave! LOL :+
Guest Merlin
I suggest over the counter Claritin, or a generic version. Walgreens is called Wall-itin and is much cheaper. It is an antihistimine which does not cause side effects such as drowsiness. Sudafed is a decongestant which is less effective and may cause sleeplessness or jitters. + BenjaminNicholas
Allergies here, but also an animal-lover with a cat & dog~ I recently picked up a Hamilton Beach air purifier from Amazon.com and that's helped, but i also use Febreeze's 'Allergen Reducer' spray on pillows, bedding, sofas, etc. For good measure, i'm also running a 3M Filtrete Ultra Pure AC filter. Dammit, i've got the cleanest air in San Antonio. It's only when i step outside that i turn into a walking post-nasal drip I'm not much into the side-effects of OTC drugs, so i don't usually use them for allergy issues. I've heard that Claritin is good. ~BN

Good catch, MBarz. VaHawk wrote in his post about how Benji pretended that his cat was sick in order to avoid a scheduled meeting with VaHawk. Then, VaHawk got embarrassed that he spoke ill of the Crowned Princess, and deleted what he wrote and changed it to something much more reverent and appropriately worshippful. But thanks to your excerpting of what he wrote, it's preserved forever. I've heard of escorts giving some pretty flaky and queeny excuses to avoid meeting clients they REALLY don't want to meet before, but "My cat is really sick" definitely takes the cake! Usually, I find it outrageous when escorts lie and make up stories to avoid appointments with clients, but in this case, can you really blame the escort? VaHawk
Facts don't matter do they? Where did I say that anyone did not deliver as promised and agreed upon? Of course, no one would expect the facts to deter some posters.

Of course, no one would expect the facts to >deter some posters. Using the words which YOU posted (and then, either in shame or out of fear or as a result of a threat or something similar, deleted), you accused Benjamin of using his sick cat as: "an excuse not to meet up as scheduled with your "out of town" clientele!" To anyone with a passing familiarity with the English language and whose brain is free and clear of intoxicating substances, that means that he "did not deliver as promised and agreed upon." Someone who fails "to meet up as scheduled" - as you accused Benji of doing (until you deleted it) - is someone who, by definition, "did not deliver as promised and agreed upon." BewareofNick
RE: Facts don't matter do they? I took the pussy comment as referring to a certain part of BN's anatomy being sick so he would be unable to accomodate even the smallest of clients such as VaBuzzard. Shame how the old buzzard acts when he's caught lying.
VaHawk
RE: Facts don't matter do they? "Someone who fails "to meet up as scheduled" - as you accused Benji of doing (until you deleted it) - is someone who, by definition, "did not deliver as promised and agreed upon." Prove that I deleted anything! Of course you CAN'T!!! x( BN has never NOT delivered as promised, at least as far as my experiences have warranted. BN is the absolute BEST escort it has been my privilige to meet, and nothing you or any one else wants to state will EVER change my opinion!!! BN invited me to spend time with him OFF THE CLOCK!!! to show me SA, but due to outside circumstances, he couldn't meet me off the clock, to do that! I don't have a cell phone, but he did call and leave a message on my hotel room phone!, which I did not get until after I went to the room to retrieve it! Don't blame BN, as he was the ULTIMATE epitome of professionalism!!!!!!!! The misconnect was all MY fault, not BN's. Benjamin is a beautiful person, and I'm GLAD that he has been agreeable to meet with me on more than one occassion, and I so sincerely apologize to him for my outburst of stupidity and anger. I do so stand by my review of BN! So attack if you want, I can deal with it, but blame me, not BN, as he is just a wonderful YOUNG man!
+ Charlie
Animal allergies are variable: some people sneeze, some get hives, some can't breathe, and the level of response--from slight to life-threatening--also varies. If you have a severe allergy, you should not have an animal, except maybe a lizard. If the allergy isn't serious, the best thing to do is get allergy shots or take antihistamines, though doping yourself constantly with the latter will reduce your quality of life. I have a mild allergic reaction, and I have simply accepted it and lived with dogs and cats most of my life. I don't let the animals sleep on my bed, I vaccuum everything regularly, I wash my hands after touching the animal, and I use a Sharper Image Ionic Breeze air purifier in my bedroom, which reduces animal aroma as well as removing some (but not all) dander in the air. There are NO cats or dogs which are truly hypoallergenic. Shorthaired cats shed less hair (which carries the dander), but they still shed. The rare "hairless" breeds of dogs and cats still have dander, although they don't shed it as much. Dog breeds with certain hair types (e.g., Poodles, Lhasa Apsos and most terriers) shed, but the hair remains caught in the coat, so they don't spread dander around the house as much as dogs that shed profusely, like German Shepherds, Pugs or northern spitz-types; however, they require more grooming to keep the coat from becoming matted, and if you do the grooming, you are more exposed to the dander. Bathing a dog or cat regularly will help remove the hair, but it may also dry the animal's skin and create more dander. The bottom line is that there is no easy solution to the problem, so don't believe breeders that try to sell you an "allergy-free" dog or cat (or other mammal, like a ferret). lsubrianj
about 10 years ago my then boyfriend moved in with me and was severly allergic to my cat. No type of medicine, over the counter or perscription helped. The cat had to go. Looking back I wish I would have kept the cat and let my bf go.
