New show starring Freddie Highmore as a young doctor.

 

In this recent episode he had to examine the "lady bits" of an 18yo porn actress. Ewww!!! It was originally thought that they'd have to cut a nerve "down there" thus she'd no longer experience sexual pleasure. But our hero of course came up with a solution to transplant a never from her thigh.

 

In a flash back with his brother, his brother showed him an adult magazine that a female friend had given him from her father's stash.

 

Later that same girl wanted to play "show me your's, I'll show you mine". But it was a set-up. A group of children showed up laughing at him before anything was exposed. He had told her all that he had wanted to do was kiss her but that never happened.

 

In the present time he was taking the bus home but was distracted by the advertisements showing scantily dressed females and missed his stop.

Having a family member with autism I was interested in seeing this show. I watched about 3/4 of the first episode and got bored with it. It treats autism in an almost cute way and the genius factor is hardly a common trait even though it's stressed the young doctor is highly functional. But they have him step in like a super hero with magic brain powers and lots of technical medical data flashes on the screen too fast for anyone to read if they wanted to. Okay, I get it. This is to show how quickly he processes information. Then there are closeups of his cute face looking blank. See? Autistic people don't show emotion. Mostly what annoyed me was the very gorgeous medical staff who are not only brilliant doctors but highly sexual and are screwing each other in between saving lives. Happily I haven't spent much time in hospitals but the few times I did I never saw doctors who look like this. Just another silly medical farce with a very slight gimmick.

I had read about this show over the summer but last evening I got a text from my sister, "Just watched Good Doctor. A+" so I watched the pilot.

 

An interesting idea for a television series, co-produced by David Shore who previously gave us the highly successful (8 seasons!) medical drama, "House" starring Hugh Laurie as a doctor with many personal demons who specialized in diagnosing "out of the box!"

 

This show is based on a Korean TV drama (Good Doctor, 2013) with an autistic protagonist who has been able to absorb and use all the medical knowledge he's read and been taught as he grew to adulthood, but who, mentally and socially, remains at a 10-year-old level. The new series seems to cast the protagonist as more high functioning than the Korean version, though.

 

Having been a Freddie Highmore fan from his earliest movies as a small child up to, and including his recent run as a young Norman Bates on "Bates Motel," and having watched and enjoyed every season of "House," I do plan on giving the show a chance. "The Good Doctor" certainly has many attractive actors involved, as @foxy points out, but every other medical, firemen, police, detective, and forensic television shows are the same, so why complain when there is some excellent eye-candy on view?

 

Anyway, the ratings for the pilot were good. Time will tell if the show will interest enough people or bore them away from watching. In my opinion, ABC is a network that is pretty quick to cancel if ratings aren't good, so if this show doesn't have what it takes, it won't last long.

What did we learn from the recent episode? We learned that if the liver donor were gay he would still be alive. The show began with a young man getting on his motorcycle. Three young women walk by him and he turns and smiles at them thus not looking at traffic while he pulls out and SMASH he gets hit and killed.

Alternatively, if the liver donor were to be gay, he would have looked at three hot guys and SMASH...
