Ok so I'm in NYC visiting like I always do annually. I've done all the touristy stuff from previous trips so I didn't really wanted to do the same thing again. I posted an ad on CL looking for locals who could show me around the city. I even put my picture on the ad. One of the responses caught my eye and he seemed really nice. I asked for stats and even a pic but he never answered that part of my questions but indicated that he's a pretty attractive guy. I said ok. Let's give this a shot. I didn't press for it and went to meet the guy at a local bar in the upper east side.

 

Maybe people take advantage of how nice I am but holy shit. The guy is nearly twice my age and I'm 43. Well, maybe give or take 20 years or so. The bartender caught my facial expression and walked away because he was about to crack up. All of a sudden I looked like the typical Asian with his ancient sugardad. I was cordial to stay with him and talked to him. I mean we really didn't have anything in common and I'm surprised he suggested the bar. 90% of the crowd could probably pass as my kids let alone his grandchildren. I think he realized it was not going to go anywhere so he left after his second ginger ale. Note to self: ignore anyone that doesn't provide stats or picture. No more being nice.

You were too polite, I would be direct and say this wasn't what I expected. Hopefully you have some back-up guys that caught your attention, that's worth your time and money.

Many years ago, I fiddled with running personal ads in gay newspapers. I can't complain, because I met several men who were exactly what I would have hoped for. But I cant tell you how many guys I met with, who were NOTHING like they described. I would go away from these meetings thinking, "Denial is a wonderful thing."

Thankfully it wasn't paid for. It was for purely hanging out. But it did ruin my night. My friends were at the US Open so I was flying solo. Was loooking to hangout with just a normal guy but nothing was normal about it. He talked about his dead family. That he's the last one. Talked about his trip to Israel that's coming up. He tried to impress me almost but honey I can afford my own way. I'm more impressed by guys who are just being themselves. No pretenses or trying to impress me or anyone else. That's annoying.

good for you for getting out there and trying, as MikeBiDude said.....I tried similar stuff a few years ago and had similar results.....often was a bit depressing (condition of the other person), so I stopped......

I hope there wasn't anything confusing sbout my post. I was specific that I was looking to hamgout. I added that I wasn't looking for sex. I was looking for someone to show me the non-touristy part of NY but offered to hangout at the bar instead so I took him on the offer.

By non-touristy, he must have thought you meant a visit to his bedroom. On your next NYC trip, avoid the upper east side.
