I'm thinking about stretching my legs and picking the city in which to brighten my horizons. I traveled a few times in different cities but that was with something prearranged. My accommodations and flight were taken care of. Now I want to pay for my own flight and find my own accommodations in the city. Anyone got any good tips on great cities to make my Great Expectations come true.

Dallas

I live in SF Bay Area. Over the years, escorts visiting here have told me that Dallas is the best for business due to a mix of friendly clients, affordable lodging, and reasonable market/competition for rates and numbers of rentguys.

Dont know the effects of Harvey on Dallas, e.g. focus/distraction/priorities and availability of lodging due to displaced Houstonians.

Idk, results may vary. It's so trite and redundant to talk about, but Dallas became overly saturated a few years ago. Can't speak of anyone else's experiences but it's become less and less profitable over the years. I eventually just stopped going.

I've heard people make a lot of money in a short time and I think @MikeSinz might be the type they go for...but it's something you'd have to find out.

Lest anyone thinks it's just me, but a lady escort wrote a blog about it:

Well, I wouldn't take Dallas completely out of the picture, but that is your choice. Dallas Pride is still going to happen mid-September and with the cancellation of the LGBA Conference in Houston there will be a bunch of guys who missed all the fun.

You might want to check out the Pride Calendar http://www.gaypridecalendar.com/ to coordinate.

Other than that, I'd suggest places like Seattle and Chicago, before they get too cold and the tourist season ends. LA and NYC are great, but the competition is tight. Although I know you're more than a cut above, it can be a bit more work. And, there is the AdultCon near the end of this month in LA.

I'd probably not recommend Vegas in the near future. Everyone just went there for the Expo.

You might want to advertise/market yourself and see how many hits you get there to see if it makes sense. That is if you have enough lead time.

I'd just keep expectations reasonable. If you've not traveled to other cities before, it's hard to tell which will be good or not. I know we're different looks and clients go for different types...but you won't know until you go.

Some cities will lure you in with the prospect of lots of clients, but then you get there and few or non show up. Others will not look great beforehand, but turn out to be great after it's all done. Some will be exactly like they appear to be before arriving. Sometime I just go to cities along my way to somewhere else and end up coming into good fortune. These days it's so much different. People used to book a week or 2 ahead, now it's just getting there and see who you can get. I think people purposely wait until you're there to even contact. The whole anchor client concept is really good to get thru the first day...but then after that you're on your own.

Again, results may vary. Some cities I have to mark as seller beware, including Chicago, Los Angeles, and Dallas. Oh and Las Vegas.

I think you'll find a lot of variability in what city is good for business. I've found some cities to be amazing and others to be not so great, then have heard from other working guys that they have had different experiences in the same cities.

One thing you might want to do is look at the "who saw me" on RM. Look back 30 days, and keep a list of where the guys that are looking at you are from. Then you can see which cities seem to have the most people looking at you, and try going there. I've personally found a positive connection between cities that I've had good work experiences in with the number of guys who looked at my RM ad from those cities.

I always find that those events detract from business as I guess guys are busy with other things.

Kevin Slater

Exactly. Folsom (though never been). Gay Pride (in several cities). Disney Gay Days (Orlando). The clients who you will see likely will have no idea such events is going on.

Those events are good if you just want to parTy (seems that's what the kids say nowadays) and just hookup various amounts of strangers from various parts of the country/world in a relatively short time. But being everyone is doing the same thing, usually not the most opportunistic times to do business.

no expert here at all, but many escorts seem to think DC is a good travel destination.....there was/is some scuttlebutt that visiting tops do very well there, but I don't know how true that really is.....

as always, promote your travel in the various places (including here in the "travel" subforum)......

Just know going into it, though most times traveling is worth it, there's people and clients out there that don't care if you're inconvenienced. A guy on another site from Miami was saying how he had a couple clients cancel even after he drove out of town and would need to get a hotel.

Just the other day I had spent 2 days making concessions for a client in a different area. Along the way I experienced some delays getting there and asked to push the time back or could do anytime the following day. He says he couldn't do it because he needs to wake up early. From his email, I understood it as him saying being at his hotel after his dinner and being free anytime after 9.

Now, this guy had all the time in the world over 3 days to email me about requests to do this and that and whatever else. Nothing was mentioned about having a meeting early and subsequent plans after...until I'm halfway there after waiting in traffic for hours.

In the process, he says he knew that time was going to be too tight to plan a session. Okay...so why didn't he convey that earlier? Why the duck was that never mentioned or alluded to?

With traveling, you just can't leave anything to ambivalence or chance. And I used to ask people, "is there ANYTHING ELSE you have going on after the session that you need to be to or attend etc? IF SO please tell me because if it seems too time constrained for me to reasonably do, I won't take on the task" because too many clients try to plan shit too narrowly when they have other things going on. They'll have relatives coming over in 2 hours and want to book while they're en route. Or they have bedtimes at 9 or 10 and anything later is a problem. But by the time you travel throughout the course of a day it can end up that way

And at the end, this client didn't even reimburse me for the time I lost which also caused me to be inconvenienced in other ways. We ended up falling out because he wasn't concise regarding the limitations of time and I had spent 2 days ahead of time arranging my schedule for him...but yet, I couldn't even get the same courtesy from him.

I'm probably going to consider no longer taking clients on the day of travel if it's out of state because I've had one too many times shit comes up (usually unexpected traffic or some sort of crazy detour) along the way and caused me to miss a client by only a mere hour or 2. Can't fathom how 2 hours difference can kill someone, but clients are usually so time constrained, it's so unpredictable what's going on in their schedule and half the time they don't even say anything about it until after the fact. Arriving the day ahead especially if being asked to host, can equate to having to spend extra money on accommodations when there's not anything set to be planned until the next day.

Even established long term escorts with all the protocols in place can still end up encountering these setbacks when traveling...Some like to pretend it doesn't happen to them, but when you talk to them in real life, you'll hear the stories.

The other thing that seems to not be getting through to people, is there seems to be a misunderstanding regarding travel locations. People will see your ad in a city, and assume you're already there. Even with travel dates listed. Even if I put in wording first thing in my ad which city I'm currently in. Some people end up still missing it. So now I put a note in my ad about that.

So when you start to travel, you get some people asking to meet today or tomorrow, not realizing that you're not even there yet. In the above situation, thru some divine intervention he made up his mind, the client assumed all the while that I moved to the city and was simply on my way back from traveling to another area.

Nowhere in my ad did I even remotely allude to moving there. I know @Kevin Slater once said, "why are you telling the client all your logistics." well because if I don't, they just assume assume assume without even reading or asking. And it creates confusion and misunderstandings.

Awe I remember being in your situation. It's very nerve wracking. My advice is:

- Advertise 1-2 months in advance

- book a refundable room (Someone may want an Outcall overnight)

- make an educated guess on which cities

Keep in mind some providers do well in certain cities while others do not. Find what works best for you and go for it. Good luck!
