I'm going to be in Seattle and would like to spend two or three days in Vancouver. I know that I can fly or drive. Are there buses or trains between those cities?

Posted

If I remember correctly there is a ferry boat that runs between Seattle and Vancouver. I think it runs several times per day.

The ferry can also carry your car or you can just ride it as a passenger without your vehicle.

If you have lots of time you could do the ferry; it would be a beautiful trip in summer but it stops at several islands before it gets to BC and it may go to Vancouver Island instead of Vancouver. (Check Washington state ferries website for full details) If you have a car the wait times for the ferry are brutal during the summer. Amtrak would be the easiest and fastest way.

I live in Seattle, ask away if you have more questions.

If you want something relaxing and break taking I have to agree with bbrown the ferry is the way to go imo. I used to drive a lot up to Van from Seattle and almost dreaded it. There isn't a lot to see on I-5 going north or south in Washington. Take the ferry young man and don't forget to show us the pics! Hope you enjoy your stay here in the northwest! You have deff picked a great time of year. Oh ya if you need any sugestions on where to stay or where to go let me know. I'd be more then happy to help out.

Hugs,

Greg

After I sent this I realized I messed up the answer. Washington state ferries from Washington to BC leave from Anacortes (60-90 minutes north of Seattle). There is a passenger boat from Seattle to Victoria, BC (near Vancouver) but I don't think they take cars.

Let me check for sure and I'll get back tomorrow.

That's news to me - I think you are referring to the one that goes to Victoria.

You can take the train also from Seattle to Vancouver and back.

Its called the Amtrak Cascades train. Here's a link to their schedule:

or go to the amtrak website http://www.amtrak.com

click on "routes" and click on "Northwest"

Have a great time.

I highly recommend the homemade milkshakes at Hamburger Mary's...

Its a neat place to guywatch late at night on Davie St.

in Vancouver. Also a fun place at night to take a hottie

for ice cream and candy is around the corner on Denman

near the condom shop on the west side of the street.

Nothing like getting candy at midnite!

Thanks very much, guys. As a young man I enjoyed driving; I no longer do. I had forgotten about Amtrak. I'm looking at both it and a ferry. Yes, I'll report back. Guywatching is beginning to rival both baseball and college football as my favorite sports.

You could be correct. But, the news today has a story about a ferry crash in Vancouver.

http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/pix/ferry_crash050630.jpg

"Divers found no victims as they searched the water around a grounded B.C. ferry that missed the West Vancouver terminal and plowed through dozens of boats on Thursday.

The operator, BC Ferries, promised a full investigation to determine why the 7,000-tonne vessel smashed into the marina beside the Horseshoe Bay terminal at about 10:10 a.m. local time..."

Amtrak sounds much safer. ;-)

Have you no sense of adventure?

Hey man!

I really hope that you enjoy Vancouver. I have lived there only one year and a half, but I deeply feel that it is my own city. I love it!

Scenery is amazing, men are fit and beautiful, people are friendly, streets are clean and the dollar (yours) is stronger... I am sure that you get the whole picture. ;)

Unfortunately I am not in vancouver as of now, because I would ask you to call me and I would give you all the detailed touristic information needed (and the inner scoop on the hot spots), but if you want, feel free to drop me a mail and as soon as possible I will answer it.

If the weather is good, I strongly recommend that you visit either Stanley park or the world-infamous (or famous) Wreck beach. At The park and all around the beach in English bay, the hunks will be jogging almost nude, and the sweaty perfect bodies will give you an accurate idea of what our lovely canucks are all about.

Also, if you need the inner scoop in escorts, and want a suggestion, drop me a line. I am in the middle of a long engagement, but I am going to check my e-mail every other day...

As the self-appointed embassador of canuckland, I really hope that you fully enjoy Vancouver and have a blast!

Thanks again. If I had more time, I'd love the trip on a ferry, but I'd like more time in Vancouver than I have and have settled on Amtrak. Seriously, you spared me hours of searching. I'd like to hire Juan, but he's on another commitment. Jesse does look appealing, as do several others on various sites. At this point, Mitch is my first choice, but he hasn't answered my inquiry.

The Canadian boys in Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec certainly have given me a favorable impression of Canadian males. I'll definitely check out Vancouver guys in Stanley Park, on Wreck Beach, and at Hamburger Mary's, among othe sites.

Seattle to Vancouver

I have contemplated this trip many times and received essentially the same suggestions you did. Since a friend will be joining me, he is driving, but if I ever plan a trip myself, I would likely take the ferry since the trip would be over the summer.

However, I have taken Amtrak many times on short haul trips, DC to Manhattan, up the coast from San Francisco to Eureka, San Diego to Los Angeles, and I think it is sad more people do not take trains in this country, as the subsidy is likely to be reduced and even more service cuts will be made in the near future.

A missing cotter pin worth pennies is being blamed for the grounding of the B.C. Ferry Queen of Oak Bay at Horseshoe Bay.

The ferry lost power on its approach to the terminal last Thursday and the captain steered the vessel into a marina, where it crushed 22 boats.

RE: Travel from Sea to Seamen

Do they have bars with go-go dancers in Vancouver? Not necessarily naked dancers...but cute ones!
